Ten minutes from Westport town center.
Aidan's Island is a modern house, nestled in the peace and quiet of the Mayo countryside, and yet only 10 minutes drive from the picturesque town of Westport, and 10 minutes from the busy shopping town of Castlebar.
The house is spacious (accommodating 7 adults) and comfortable and boasts panoramic views over Lough Islandeady, Croagh Patrick, and the surrounding countryside.
There is much to do in the locallity:
the Wild Atlantic Way (driving route),
the Great Western Greenway (Cycling/walking route from Achill Island to Croagh Patrick),
Croagh Patrick (The "Reek" Pilgrimage site/ Mountain),
Lough Islandeady (fishing and boat hire can be arranged),
Clew Bay (Cruise to Clew Island),
Mulranny Beach (blue flag) and much more,
Of course it is also wonderful to just sit about the house and garden, and enjoy relaxing.

This property was absolutely gorgeous with breathtaking views. The pictures don’t do it justice! Aidan was on hand for anything we needed and we couldn’t have been made feel more at home. Couldn’t rate this highly enough.

Beautiful home! Aidan is a friendly and responsive landlord
and ready to help with any issues. The home is clean, well layed out and well stocked with the usual courtesy supplies such as tea, coffee, milk, etc. The view is great and the home is very comfortable overall. The only issues were location; it you use GPS or Eircode you can find it. If you do not, it is fairly difficult to find. Additionally, it was not exactly clear from the online description that there is a dog kennel with multiple dogs just 30 feet or so from the home. If dogs are not an issue for you - you will be fine. However, I would stronly reccomend that the write up on the property be expanded to clearly indicate this situation. The brief passing reference to the dogs does not make it at all clear how very close they are to the house. Overall, the stay was enjoyable and Aidan is an excellent host.

We loved the hilltop location and the beauty of this place! The house is gorgeous and very spacious!! The owner, Aidan, is a delightful host!
Our one and only problem was a lack of written instructions on the washer/dryer. I’m not sure if it was our fault but the laundry took forever and came out VERY wrinkled. Still, you loved this place and would definitely stay there again. Hopefully for a longer visit!!

This is the place to stay! Breathtaking views from almost every room in the house. If we weren't pressed for time we all would have been just fine enjoying the views and serenity of the house. It's perfectly located to 2 towns only minutes away with a lot to offer. Aiden was very friendly and offered fantastic suggestions for live music and exploring. Hope to make it back on our next trip whenever that may be.

amazing house and incredible views
the house was stunning, and everything was thought of, it was warm and cosy when we arrived. The accommodation is great, gorgeous soft towels, great beds and bedding and everything was provided , it was all in all simply stunning we would love to go back

Simply gorgeous!
Stunning house in a great rural location. It was almost a pity that we had to go out and visit the surrounding area. Wee could have easily stayed in to relax for three days! Aidan and Maura were lovely and very helpful. We hope to go back for longer in the future.

Fab house, fantastic view.

Breathtakingly Beautiful
Had such a wonderful weekend at Aiden’s Island. House was spotless, beautiful and very comfortable. Aiden and Maura were so welcoming and congenial! Only complaint was that we didn’t have enough time there. Hope to come back!

We wish we could have stayed longer!
Aidan and Maura were by far the best hosts I have ever had with VRBO. They made our stay just as perfect as we had hoped. The house is a dream and the views are fantastic. It was hard to leave and go out “touristing”. We were in dire need of clean laundry when we arrived and Maura quickly took care of it for us! Aidan was full of information about local things to see and do. The kitchen is very well equipped. We found some staples in the fridge and even an apple tart. Aidan and Maura even went out of their way to supply us with bags of ice cubes! The house also contained lots of maps, guidebooks and brochures for our use. On top of all this, they lent us a local cell phone to use. It took us about 15 minutes to drive into Westport, so we had a city nearby but enjoyed the country quiet. Aidan and Maura’s dog Scruffy came to visit us and then it truly felt like home away from home. My niece only had one suggestion: she wished for hooks in the bathrooms. I would have loved to stay longer in this beautiful house. Maybe next time? Thank you again Aidan and Maura.

Beautiful Spacious Home
This property is a beautiful spacious home with spectacular view of lake and countryside. Our favorite of our stay in Ireland. The hosts were on site and greeted us and showed us through the home. They were very welcoming and helpful. The home was well supplied included thoughtful touches throughout. Plus we enjoyed the company of the resident golden retriever Scruffy. The town of Westport is close by and had many shops and restaurants. We chose to buy groceries and cook dinner at the house so we could enjoy the wonderful view. We hope to return for a longer stay.

Aidan’s Island
This is a special property with delightful views of a beautiful lake. The two front rooms overlooking the lake are spacious with very comfortable sofas. The kitchen is generously stocked as are the bathrooms. Plenty of parking and easy to find with the sat nav. The owners of this tranquil property are lovely people.
Nearby Westport is a great spot for foodies with ample choices and we enjoyed some live Irish music.
Tip: there is minimal window coverage in the bedrooms so bring sleeping masks.

Wonderful place
Excellent accommodation with wonderful view over the lakes. House was perfect. Clean, tidy and all you could ask for. Great place to explore Mayo and the wonderful west of Ireland. Highly recommend.

Family holiday in marvellous Mayo
The property was great! A super spacious and well equipped property, with fantastic views down the hill and over the lake. Many thanks to Aidan and Maura who were welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. From this spot between Westport and Castlebar we were able to visit beautiful spots inland and along the coast and would recommend this area to anyone who loves stunning countryside, wonderful, interesting and varied coastlines and of course that great Irish cultural experience.

OUR BEST ACCOMMODATION IN IRELAND!!!
We stayed in 7 locations in Ireland and without question, Aidan’s Island WAS THE BEST!
Aidan and Maura are outstanding hosts who have the gift of hospitality. Sitting in the Vaulted Family Room looking at the lake from Aidan’s Island and the views across the valley is simply unbelievable. Our only mistake was not staying longer. DON’T MAKE THAT SAME MISTAKE!
THIS BEAUTIFUL HOME IS THE PERFECT LOCATION NEAR BOTH CASTLEBAR AND WESTPORT.

Oasis in Ireland
It took us many years and thousands of miles but we found “home” at “Aidan’s Island. A wonderful home with an even more wonderful panoramic view. The rooms are large, well furnished and very liveable.
Most importantly our hosts Maura and Aidan are lovely people. They felt like family and treated us the same.
If you want to experience the real Ireland with all its rural splendour, this is the place.
We’re coming back next year with the rest of our family.

Absolutely mind blowing !
Blown away by the view and location! Aiden and Maura were there to meet us - they live on site( which helps) and were informative and accomodating of our late check in . The photos don’t do justice to this magnificent property - if we had known what we were renting. - we would have stayed longer ! Aiden with his rich brown voice - welcomed us on behalf of/with Maura - his painting is above the fire place - so I asked him if he was famous - he said “no” but it turns out he had played parts in Vikings and GOT! The presence and the beard were a give away ! Nice touches like leaving a “local” phone to get in touch with him if needed ! You will be blown away like fairy dust by this place! Go! Go now!

Wonderful hosts
Aiden and Maura were amazing hosts. They provided everything we could have hoped for and were very happy to help us with the tv. While they live in separate accommodation they did not intrude in any way. We loved hearing Aiden’s stories and would have liked to have spent more time with them. Aiden even provided us with a taxi service when we settled into an unplanned night at a pub in Westport. The views from the house were spectacular.

Fabulous House
We had a fantastic stay in this house, the views are spectacular overlooking the lake. The house is so spacious with two huge living rooms. The bedrooms are very comfortable and have plenty of room as well. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything you will need. Aidan was so welcoming to our family, even driving to town to direct us to the house. He was very kind and gave us lots of helpful tips for the area. We would highly recommend this wonderful house as a base for touring the surrounding area. Our family will definitely be back to stay here. McLean Family

Spacious home, beautiful scenery and great hosts!
Myself and 5 of my friends had a very enjoyable weekend away here. The house is amazing and very spacious (it comfortably fit the 6 of us), with spectacular views looking out onto a lake. Aidan & Maura were the perfect hosts. Maura had some delicious scones made for us when we arrived and at night if we wanted to go out to the pubs, Aidan would offer to drive us into Westport to save the trouble of booking taxis. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
