Lovely host and very comfortable.
A little out of the way, but worth it.

The Matakitai is in a beautiful location, just 8 minutes by train from Ichinoseki station. The house is very nice and the dinner was delicious. The rooms are separated from each other just by japanese sliding doors (locked and unmovable of course) so if privacy is really important to you, keep that in mind.
Futons were really really thin, my back would have love thicker futons.

Really friendly and lovely host who has created a very welcoming atmosphere. Beautiful traditional house with huge rooms and air conditioning. Fast WiFi. Clean shared facilities.

Nice decorations, good breakfast, excellent facilities (kitchen shower and the main room).
Typical japanese rooms. Beautiful environment.
In a nutshell, excellent accomodation.

The spacing makes me so relaxed and calm, especially there is the croaking of frogs around the accommodation. Additional charged breakfast taste quite delicious, nutrition-balanced, and convenient to travellers.

The inside is really beautiful, the kitchen and the rooms are really clean.
Adding a mattress below the futons.

Very tranquil location, high quality tatami floors in a traditional Japanese house, free complimentary tea and cozy common area, nice with a warm bath available and the host was very kind. A cute goat on the property. really enjoyed the experience!
the paper walls make it easy for sounds to travel between rooms as well as light. had a bit of a hard time falling asleep but they sell earplugs should it be needed.

The property is nice and cozy, walk a little (approximately 6mins) from the Ofunato line mataki station. The day I’m arrived the ofunato line was suspended til the evening but the host is very nice and helpful, he picked us up and drove us to the ichenoseki station on the checked out day. Though the host isn’t fluent in English, he trying to communicate and help us in anything he’s incredibly good!!
The property is a traditional japanese style so it isn’t soundproof. After 5pm it’s a little bit dark around the area and the ofunato local line time schedule can be changed in any case better make sure you have checked the remark.

Shin-San was is the best host I met in a long time. Super interesting conversations and nice recommendations. As a fan of motorcycles and bears, this place was paradise!
I did not spend too much time in Mataki as I had a JR pass and was traveling around but I will Matakitai soon !
Thank you again Shin!

The house is a beautiful old Ryokan in the classic manner. Tatamy, beautiful woodwork, in a quiet country location. A convenient train hop from Ichinoseki. In the the owner was helpful and cheerful. The kitchen is very convenient and well set up. We recommend an early morning walk up the country road it’s on.
Like any classic Ryokan, the privacy level is nil. Conversations two rooms away are quite clear.

Amazing place, was better than expected!
The public transportation is close, but with low frequency. Plan your morning alarm accordingly and you're good :)

I liked the atmosphere, gave the Japanese vibes with it being a traditional house. The facilities were clean and nice too. Apparently the night I stayed others weren't there so I had the entire place to myself. The breakfast was great too. I'm a Muslim so I don't eat non halal meat and alcohol, so he made seafood and eggs with veggies, which was just yum.
The location is nice tbh but I couldn't think straight coming from the station to the house at 19:30, I was kinda scared with how dark and lonely the route seemed. The way back in the morning was very nice though.

A really charming place to stay for those wanting something between an AirBnB in a very spacious traditional house, and some optional services such as breakfast, which was very good. The location is ideal for visiting the historical sites of Ichinoseki, such as Chuson-Ji. We had a car, so can't comment on accessibility by public transport.
Service was excellent and attentive, with swift responses to any questions via Booking.com - we communicated in Japanese, so can't comment on English.
Can't fault it - it was exactly what we wanted for our stay.

Beautiful house, super clean, very friendly host!

The host is incredibly welcoming and gave us lots of space to do our own thing. This is a great place for kids. Our son loved meeting the resident goat. There is a kitchen so we could cook for ourselves, which can be convenient with kids. Our beds were comfortable and we all slept well. One thing to note, there are no shops or convenience stores close by. We brought food and drinks from ichinoseki, which is five minutes by train. You can buy some drinks at the guesthouse. A lovely breakfast is included.
The property is close to Ichinoseki and we used it as a base to ride the Pokémon train that runs from ichinoseki to Kesennuma.
Nothing.

Gorgeous house and very warm welcome. We spent a great night here. The host was really nice and even adapted the breakfast to our dietary restrictions (vegetarian).

Host was lovely. Lovely quiet location. Beautiful room - we had the place to ourselves!
