About this cottage rental
The Gatehouse is part of the Palacio de Hualle, a 17th Century manor estate. The Gatehouse is a pretty and comfortable house, full of light and with views of the green fields with grazing horses. With a big living-dining room, a lovely outdoor eating area and two bedrooms , it is perfect for a family of four. In Hualle, a tiny rural hamlet, yet it is in walking distance to shops and restaurants. Only a fifteen minute drive to villages of Comillas and Santillana or to beaches of Oyambre and Gerra.
Set on the edge of the tiny rural hamlet of Hualle, south side of house has views of green fields and horses at pasture. The north side of the house has views of the village. The Gatehouse has a large very confortable living room, dining room and kitchen furnished with sofas and local antiques. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a wood burning stove for heat. There is a lovely area for outdoor dining, under the eaves of the barn and the grape vines. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. The bedrooms are spacious, with excellent beds and linens, ample closet space and are also decorated with local antiques. There is also a seating area in the garden , overlooking the horse pastures, where the Gatehouse guests are welcome to sit and enjoy the greenery.
The Gatehouse is a completely independent house within the Palacio de Hualle estate.
The house will be carefully prepared and ready for the arrival of the guests. The beds shall be made, with fresh linens and towels in place. Our housekeeper will show you into the house when you arrive, and will be available if anything comes up.
Located in tiny village of Hualle, a hamlet of about 25 traditional village houses. It is extremely peaceful. Nonetheless, well stocked shops are within walking distance.

A beautiful setting and a fantastic location to explore this great region. We were very well looked after by Mari the housekeeper ad the place was spotless with luxury linen, comfy beds and sofas and all that we needed in the kitchen. We ate outside each evening which was lovely. From the house we had days out at the local beaches, cycle rides in the hills and had a lovely meal out in Cabezón de la Sal. We were even there for the local fiesta (August 5th) and were treated to traditional music and celebrations - it did get very loud in the evening but it was a one off and it was fun to join in with!) Gracias.

We enjoyed staying here, it was lovely and quiet and very near the motorway to everywhere. Comillas is 15 min away. The dining chairs are old as is the fridge!! The beds were very comfy.

We liked the house, the little town and the location between the sea and the mountains.

We had a wonderful stay in Cantabria at Palacio Hualle and the adjacent Gatehouse.
We enjoyed the stay very much with its quirky layout and enjoyed reading the book about the architect Henri Jova who restored the grounds.
Mari, the housekeeper is the true star of the show making us a delicious traditional Spanish paella which was superb! Also this was for 12 people! (La paella estaba deliciosa!)
Treceño is a lovely peaceful area and the Palacio has spacious grounds with a little chapel in the grounds and donkeys in the ajacent field.
The Palacio is very traditional and mixed the old with the modern well with antique furniture and with a modern well equipped kitchen with range cooker and an American style fridge/freezer.
There is a small town centre in Treceño where you can get reasonably priced food, coffee and beers/wines etc. The Mercadona supermarket is a couple of kilometers away and only a few minutes drive (given the area, a car is probably a necessity for most people unless doing the trip as part of a cycling holiday)
We would definately stay again!

Beautiful and well stoked
The communications with the owner and the housekeeper were excellent. We had a well stoked kitchen, a wood stove with wood to burn, and plenty of room. The house has all the comforts of a modern place with the charm of a rustic old house. I recommend it.

Descanso total

Disappointing
Having spent vacation in historical Italian Vrbo homes we were super excited for this cottage. Booked 2 days, but left after 1. The outside appeared it had not been cleaned in a long while. The inside had a peculiar musty odor. I love shabby boho style, but the place just is shabby. There was nothing charming in the barrio. The photographer did a great marketing job, we were duped.

Overall everything here was great. Clean and well presented. The location is easy enough to find, and handy for day drives to the Picos Mountains, Altamira Caves, Santillana del Mar and the beaches at Comilla and Cobreces. My only comment would be; it would be nice to turn the outside lights off after 11 pm so that we could experience the real dark of a rural area.Eric from Dubai

Lovely gatehouse in beautiful setting
We really enjoyed our stay here. The gatehouse has been sympathetically renovated and is very comfortable. The master bedroom has lovely views across the rolling countryside and the rustic outdoor furniture situated under the ancient vine covered awning is a really lovely place to eat - even in a rain shower!.
The kitchen is brilliantly stocked with plenty of equipment (even a tumble dryer) and the extras such as washing powder were appreciated; thank you.
The gatehouse is in a tiny and very picturesque hamlet just off a main road into Cabezón de las Sal, about 5km away. There are loads of super bars and restaurants there, and also in the village of Carrejo, where there are a couple of easy walks to do with kids and lovely river swimming spots.
Closer to the hamlet of Hualle there’s a good shop, which is open in the mornings, a couple of good bars and restaurants within walking distance.
All in all a brilliant stay with a friendly and welcoming host who was very kind and accommodating! Thanks so much. Highly recommended.

Simply marvellous holiday home
We spent a week at the Gatehouse which was just not long enough. My 9 year old son Sebastian just said "Time flies when you are having fun."
The home from home is very well equipped with everything we needed and we loved the peaceful, beautiful location in the small village of Hualle. It's a short walk to the nearest restaurant and a short drive to a choice of marvellous, Green Coast beaches and historic towns.
The nearest station on the Feve Railway is Treceno, about a mile away, where you can catch trains to Oviedo and Santander with lots of interesting places in between.
We hope to return very soon.
Thanks you so much Margaret.
Best wishes,
David, Julia and Sebastian
