This comfortable, fully equipped 2-bedroom apartment has everything you need for a home-base during your travels that really feels like a home. We were here for just under three weeks, and did not want to leave! The hosts give excellent communication. Their son Jerome was our contact for our stay, meeting us at the apartment and kindly showing us everything we needed to know about using the apartment, doing laundry, etc. We communicated with him via Whatsapp, and everything was easy and pleasant.
We loved sitting out on the balcony on a leisurely morning. The location is excellent for walking everywhere in Tavira, which is a beautifully walkable small city (for the able-bodied). the Pingo Doce grocery store is across the street from the building; an outstanding frutaria (green-grocers with local produce) is a few blocks to the northeast, and the fabulous indoor municipal market is about 15-min. walk to the southeast across the river, with a stunning array of fresh, local seafood, produce, meat, and local products like honey (and don't miss the enormous herbs-and-spices booth). The kitchen is nicely equipped to cook for yourself, which we enjoyed doing--but Tavira is also a food-lover's paradise for restaurants, bakeries, and snack bars. O Seu Cantinho, O Noel, and Frangarario, all within a few blocks of the apartment, were our favorites for delicious home-style Portuguese food. Padaria Venezuela (yes, Venezuela), a smidge further away to the NW, is a wonderful place for breakfast or lunch, as well as bread and pastries; we also enjoyed Padaria Porta Nova for excellent bread and kind staff. If you love curry, you have at least 4 South Asian restaurants to choose from; we especially appreciated the food and the lovely staff at Punjab Palace, especially when our days landed us out of sync with meal times (many restaurants close between 3pm and 7pm). The big Gran Plaza mall is also about a 15-min.
Not actual negatives, but things to note: This is not an accessible apartment. In America it would be called a 3rd-floor walk-up. We packed relatively light (no checked bags), and enjoyed using the marble stairs as part of our daily routine, but if you have heavy luggage or have difficulty with stairs, you may think twice. Also note that depending on the time of year and the humidity levels, air-drying clothes on the laundry rack Portuguese style requires some strategizing if you packed light. There is a lavandaria (laundromat) with 2 big dryers on the south side of the Rio Gilao in the main tourist zone, if you run into trouble, but you may have to wait to use them. Also: we found the "crinkly" mattress pad and pillows a little disconcerting at first. We were able to swap out with other linens in the generously-supplied wardrobes, and we were fine. Enjoy your stay!

Were unable to gain access to the apartment at time stated and had to book a hotel until contact was made with us meaning we only had 4 days at the apartment.
