Clean rooms, friendly staff with a sense of humour.
Only thing is the front of the hotel is by the road, so you can expect a bit of road noise.

Friendly atmosphere and it was ideal when I had to go

The Staff were very welcoming throughout my stay. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. I had an evening meal within the Bar area and the food was really good at reasonable prices. Breakfast is ordered to your liking and cooked fresh on demand.
I only stayed the 1 night and could not find anything that I did not like.

Need TLC, great food and lovely staff.

Breakfast was very basic.
Also the one meal we had in the hotel.
Mostly the breakfast and the bar area was not comfortable. At breakfast instant coffee was there to be made by the guest. Not good.

Staff friendly & welcoming, great food both in the bar for dinner & a lovely breakfast.

Great hotel with a lovely garden. Have stayed here twice now and would certainly stay again. Staff great. Good breakfast. Parking alongside the hotel.

Nice and quiet, liked that the bar/restaurant was separated by a glass door, this kept noise downstairs and the bedrooms quiet. Fab beer garden, lots of places to sit.
Hotel doesn’t open till 3 but booking.com says 2pm, may need to update this, but they were nice enough to let us in early.
Room was nice and homely but very muggy, we had the window open all the time, could do with air con or at least a fan in the room.

Really friendly, really clean and rooms were spacious. The hosts were brilliant too.

Hotel was great, food was great, room was better than expected, and service was friendly and welcoming.
Beer garden overlooking a small river was also great

We left very early to climb scafell, before breakfast, hosts still made sure to put out some breakfast things to help ourselves. Lovely gesture. Very convenient for wasdale and wastwater.

the rooms were a lovely size and were very clean
food was average

Clean
Booking confirmed that the room will be on the garden side, but in spite of specifically asking, the room given was facing the road which was quite busy throughout the night, the room just few feet next to the main road, could not sleep for the whole two days

Great value, clean and comfortable. very convenient for spending time around Eskdale.

I like the parking that is not on the road. I like the staff freindliness and accomodating.
The parking need more lights at night.

breakfast ok
room had a musty smell, and curtain pole hanging off the wall. when contacted a member of staff, they told us it’s the room they use for booking.com due to getting it at a cheaper rate at £85.00 as appose to paying the full price of £95.00. doesn’t make sense really….we paid the extra £10.00….

Location
Breakfast was ok

Great location, fabulous traditional food and excellent beers.
Traffic noise from the busy road, but you get used to it.

The bathroom was newly decorated, bed was comfortable, staff were nice and the walk up the river from the bridge was beautiful in autumn. The location was handy for walking in Ennerdale or Wasdale.
The bedroom furniture was tatty, the ceiling had suffered a leak and was in need of repair and there was a damp smell. The evening meal was just about ok, the breakfast slightly better.
4.1
The location was great, with a river running at the end of the beer garden. The food was very reasonable priced, although some fish and salad options would have been good. The hosts were great and good car parking.
the location of the plug sockets wasn't great, also difficult to dry hair with there not being a mirror near a socket or a dressing table. A small fridge to keep water cool would have been useful as we paid £8 for some water from the bar. A chair would also be good to have in the room and hooks on the bathroom door. The hotel was a little tired and could have done with being painted internally. The bathroom door was grubby. There was also a lack of tables and chairs in the bar area.
4.1
The staff were very pleasant, and the breakfast was good, no complaints whatsoever on that score.
The hotel seems to be in a very remote location, at least it certainly seems to be that way when you arrive in the dark on a Sunday evening. They stop serving food at 8pm which is about an hour too early in my opinion, as you'll certainly struggle to find anything to eat in the local area. The bar was really quiet, and I was just really bored sitting there to be honest, but that's probably my fault, not the fault of the hotel or the staff. It's a quiet place in the lake district, not Las Vegas.

It is in a beautiful setting. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners were welcoming. We enjoyed both the evening meal and breakfast.
We were hot.
