About this house rental
Our 700 sq. foot 2 story home, Miloli'i Beach Bungalow, is located 33 miles south of Kona in Miloli'i. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you've come to the right place. Our little house in paradise, 550ft from waterfront local snorkeling spot, is perfect for a quiet getaway.
Our home is a 2 bedroom w/ queen size beds in each room, 1.5 bathroom & outdoor shower, full kitchen and living room w/ pullout queen size sofa bed. Tile floors throughout including the lanai. Hang out area under neath with a small bistro table w/ 2 chairs. Brand new construction, just completed in February 2017.
Enjoy lounging on the lanai with a high table and 4 chairs looking out at the waves crash against the shore, beautiful sunsets, watch the whales play and breeching in the bay while you BBQ dinner and star gaze at night.
Less than 5 minutes from the house is the rock which offers some of the best snorkeling and swimming on the Big Island. There is a state beach park about 10 minutes down the road, the speed limit in the neighborhood is on island time, 15mph. A 20min walk to Honomalino Bay is a must when here, it is a secluded black sand beach. Often you find that you'll be the only ones there!!! How excited to have a black sand beach all to yourselves and so close. The hike over is beautiful, through a bit of jungle and across a few lava fields. Miloli'i is also only 60 miles from the Volcano National Park, so on the big island that would be a day trip. And South Point just down the road from there offers up one of the most beautiful green sand beaches in the world, seas that have come from Antarctica, and the most southern bakery in the USA, with wonderful pastries. Up the hill and 10 miles north towards Kona you can find some other wonderful beaches, Hookena, home to a pod of spinner dolphins and the occasional whale, offers snorkeling, kayak rentals, a small food vendor, clean bathrooms, and outdoor fresh water showers. 10 more miles north is The Place of Refuge at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau State Park, also known as Two Step. Amazing snorkeling here and sun bathing. There is a bit of shade and a few picnic tables.
Our neighborhood is strictly residential, the nearest store and gas station are about 20-25mins from the house, in Oceanview, which is south of Miloli'i. It has 2 grocery stores, gas station, gift shop, hardware store, and a few restaurants: Pizza Place, Bar & Grill, L&L BBQ.
Life is always good in Miloli'i!!

House is well stocked, quiet neighborhood, beautiful views.
I brought my own propane for the gas grill and extra drinking water, as well as lounge chairs.
Totally enjoyed my stay, wanted to stay longer

We wanted to stay away from the crowds and closer to the sights on the south end of the island-the purple house was a perfect fit! We thought the winding road down to the house was fun and offered amazing views. The neighborhood was impressively quiet and the lanai offered a wonderful space to have breakfast, watch the sunset and take in the stars.
There was ample space for our group-2 couples and 2 elementary-aged kids, and the house was well-equipped for all sorts of island adventures. We appreciated the washer and dryer and loved the option of the outdoor shower. We hope to be back someday soon!

We loved our stay in the purple house. It was clean and the beach decorations fit the area to a “T.” It had all amenities we could’ve asked for. We ate out on the deck for breakfast and watched spinner dolphins. We snorkeled at Da’ Rock and saw a big variety of fish. It made us feel like we were away from the real world. We would definitely stay there again!

Great property out of the main Kailua-Kona area where lots of people stay. It was exactly what we were looking for when booking the property. We knew the distance to Kona/Waimea (further), to Volcanoes (closer) and just planned our days out accordingly. Once we got the lay of the area of where best to get groceries, water and dump trash/recycling it was all great. There are great beaches around the house (Honomalino Beach - 20 min easy trail walk from Miloli'i Beach), Miloli'i Beach (short 5 min drive, great snorkeling if you want calmer waters - there's a small bay area with lots of reef fish to see...saw a moray eel, too...unusual for shallow areas) and the Rock public access area just 500ft to the left of the driveway. We had lots of days just relaxing and reading on the deck and swimming closely without driving out.
The kitchen has great supplies which you don't always get with a vacay rental - good pots/pans, sharp knives, good appliances- pretty much anything you would need in any home. Ginger and Roger have thought of many amenities one might need or want especially if you're looking to do your own meals.
The house is well situated in a quiet residential community. The drive down from the highway is a bit windy and steep. Take it slow in the dark, but during the day it was fine. And once you've driven it a couple times, it's no biggie in our opinion. We would return for another "off the beaten track" sort of holiday. We really enjoyed our stay!

We loved staying at purple house! The house had everything we needed and we enjoyed the deck/views also. The owners are very responsive, and kept us up to date when Mauna Loa erupted during our stay. (Which turned out to not be a big deal, but was amazing to see the lava flows!) we loved the property and location and hope to come back to visit again!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Purple House. The homeowners have done a fantastic job with this home, making sure that it has just about everything you need for a stay on the Big Island. The home is newer construction, so there were no issues with anything. The home is located at the bottom of the mountain, near the ocean and has a very exciting road to drive to get to it! You are only an hour from Kona, about 15 minutes from grocery & fuel. We loved it and will definitely return!!!❤️🏝💯

We had an amazing stay at the purple house. There was a little hiccup at the beginning but Ginger the owner is extremely nice and answered right away and was quick to make the situation right. The house itself is great and in a great location. It is quite and away from the hustle and bustle of Kona. They stock the house with anything and everything you can possible need. We enjoyed sitting on the porch at night listening to the waves. Would stay again!

This property was perfect for us and our two daughters since they had such a cute room to stay in downstairs and we had our place upstairs. The place was so well equipped and clean that it made our stay wonderful. Thank you so much for making this such a great vacation!

First Winter HAwaii Retreat
We enjoyed our first snow bird winter in Paradise tremendously. So much in fact, next winter we are staying three months instead of two. The Purple House served our needs excellently. Fully stocked with bed and bath linens as well as kitchen dishwasher and pots/pans. Second bedroom was great for guests. Washer and dryer worked great. The area is remote and requires a drive; however, this was what we enjoyed most. The owners responded promptly to any questions we had. The weather was terrific. We watched whales, dolphins, and boats from the lanai. We hiked to the secluded beach at Honomalino Bay nearly a dozen times. The sunsets were breathtaking. Highly recommend for extended stay. To the Demosses, thank you for sharing your slice of Paradise!

Nice getaway spot
Really enjoyed this place. The site itself is far away from a lot of things to do but would be perfect if you wanted a remote spot to just relax. There's snorkeling close by and and black sand beach near. The view of the ocean from the lanai was fantastic, and the stars at night were beautiful. Ocean View is relatively close and has a store. It was a bit harder getting to the far away spots (like Volcanoes NP, Kona or Hilo), and the road to and from the house was a bit daunting. Initially had problems getting checked in but it was resolved quickly with a phone call. The kitchen has some basic necessities for cooking, blender, coffee maker, but it would be hard to do more than a basic meal. (Probably not a big deal for a lot of people, but I had several to feed in my group.) Overall, I would say that it a nice spot to relax and hang out.

Our family had a wonderful stay in HI. The rental had everything! We had trouble getting in because the website didn’t update the current door code but the owner answer right away. We would definitely stay here again.

Little purple house
We enjoyed this property so much! We were spending time with our son before he leaves for college next week. Your property gave us the perfect place to come back to after a long day of exploring. We really enjoyed cooked dinner and eating out on the deck. We even snuck in a game last f Yatzee!

Wonderful!
Roger & Ginger were great to rent from. We had plenty of room for our two week stay. I found the snorkeling spots Roger told me about. So clean & comfortable with a nice kitchen. A great place to relax and whale watch. We plan on coming back soon.

Relaxing and quiet
Beautiful place looking out to the ocean! Our kids saw whales! We spent our days out at local beaches. Mornings and evenings here were so quiet and lovely. Ignore bad reviews about Miloli'I. We had no problems at all--very quiet community. Ginger was so easy to contact--great communication. 4 stars for location only for the long windy road...but if you plan ahead, this is not a problem. I would not plan to try to find the place in the dark, personally. This has a benefit, though, as there were no casual tourists wandering around. Bring fresh stuff and meat and groceries with you. Grilling was great! Thank you so much for a great family stay!

Isolated beach paradise found in a hectic world. Crashing waves and chattering birds provide calmness.

Great house, clean with plenty of space for our family of 4. Complete bonus having the use of beach chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards!
Nice quiet neighborhood, the drive down was interesting in the dark first night. Loved being away from the busy areas of the island. We couldn’t have gotten a better rate, it really felt like an amazing deal!
Owners were super responsive and checking in was straight forward and easy!
Thanks for letting us enjoy your home away from home!!

Our stay at the Purple Palace
We loved our stay at Roger and Gingers house.
Our fifth trip to the Big Island over a 20 year span.
The last three all VRBO type spots.
You will not find a easier owner to work with than the De Moss'es.
When I had a scheduling conflict, Ginger fixed it for me in literally 5 minutes.
Really relieved a lot of stress.
After we got to the house, really impressed with all the details thought out. Good job!
Again, text communication while we were at the house, was immediate, though in our case, it was idle chat, we had no issues.
I bring this up because at other times during our trip, communication with the landlord was important, and said communication was NOT quick.
That should not be an issue on vacation.
I highly recommend the Purple house.
The purple color is genius.
Makes it easy to find when all the houses look similar.
(and all your preprinted info is in your bag, me!)
One thing I don't remember if it was in the listing, but drinking water is provided. We bought water and didn't need it.
Buy groceries in Kona before driving down.
Be ready for a windy but paved road down.
Worth the drive!

Big Island Paradise
The only reason I gave the location and neighborhood 4 stars is because of the windy road to the house. It is a challenge for those with motion sickness, but worth the effort. We loved our stay and had a lovely visit to the island. We wish we could have stayed forever. Thank you for letting us stay!

We loved staying at this house! It was not in the hustle and bustle area. Exactly what we were looking for! Owners were very responsive. Previous guests left necessities, as did we. Snorkel gear was provided and used. Good point to start from fot sightseeing. Overall a great place to stay. Would recommend it to anyone!

Must nicer than I thought it would be
Clean, very nice home.
Beautiful view of the Pacific.
Nice, large, screen TV.
It is really worth the money.
The mistake I made was not checking out at11:00 A.M.
The cleaning crew arrives then.
I recommend this place.

Secluded in beach community. The owners make sure the house is stocked with any basic necessities that you might want and extras you might not think of!

Cleanest place out there!
This little house is so cute with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. And so clean! The owners are responsive and very helpful. We spent 11 wonderful nights here and then accidentally left prescription medicine for the cleaning lady to discover. The owner requested our address and mailed it to our home immediately - above and beyond what would have been expected. Thank you again!

Fantastic getaway spot. Hosts were lovely, the house is excellent, clean, and right by the water with surprisingly good snorkeling. It is a bit of a drive, so be sure to get groceries on your way in.
