About this cottage rental
Snowman Cottage -- Southport Enjoy water views of Cape Harbor and the open ocean from nearly every room in this 3-bedroom/2-bath cottage! The cottage has hardwood floors with area rugs. It comes fully equipped with cable TV and VCR in the living room and a well-equipped kitchen including a lobster pot, or course, microwave and a washer/dryer. It is just a short walk to the Newagen Seaside Inn where you can enjoy the amenities that include tennis courts and a pool at no cost. You supply the linens. Sorry, no pets!
During your stay, partake in the Boothbay Region’s wonderful art galleries, shopping, and the many restaurants. While here, rent a sailboat or kayak, or better yet, bring your own. Join a boat cruise, a whale-watching excursion, or go deep-sea fishing. Play golf on the region's newly redesigned 18-hole course. Hike a nature trail of which there are several, bike around the island and surrounding areas, or just relax in the serene natural setting of coastal Maine.
We are approximately 3 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Arcadia National Park and Bar Harbor, 1 hour from Camden/Rockland and 35 minutes from Bath/Brunswick. It is about an hour’s drive to the famous L.L. Bean store and the great outlets in Freeport if you like to shop.
If you like the beach, it is available at the end of Southport Island. It’s a short drive to Southport Beach, a small, but sandy public beach close by the Hendricks Head Light. There is also a small general store on the island, but a full service supermarket is available in Boothbay Harbor.
The interestingly named Cuckolds Lighthouse, at the entrance to Newagen Harbor, is still an active lighthouse. It is said to be named after a point of land on the Thames River in England, granted to a Londoner to sooth his anger after King John had an affair with his wife. The lighthouse has many stories. One of which is that around the lighthouse the ledges around it are called “collector ledges” as it has been the site of many boating mishaps and marine rescues. It is a beacon to generations of fishermen, and a chosen burial site for some, including our region's much beloved Leland Snowman. Although Leland never lived in this “Snowman” cottage, family members have owned it in the past, thus its name.

Six of us stayed at Snowman’s Cottage for a wonderful Maine vacation. The vintage cottage is a refreshing contrast to the modern homes, with a history built into every room through furniture and artwork. The location cannot be beat and we were lucky to have all the best weather Maine offers. There were a few maintenance issues, but Jill was very responsive and nothing kept us from family dinners in the dining room or evenings on the deck watching the lobster boats return. All-in-all, it was a very relaxing time with short trips to Boothbay Hsrbor for shopping and dining. Oh - and having access to the Nextdoor pool was icing on the cake!

The property was in a great location with access to the water. The host was great to talk with. We enjoyed our stay.

Having the Inn next door is the best feature of this rental. In the amenities they list a BBQ and a hot tub. We had a old grill with no gas tank and there is no hot tub.

This house is very comfortable! From the beds, family room furniture, etc. It is right next door to Newagen Inn with a nice pool, dock, facilities. The view from the deck of the house is breathtaking! Due to the rainy season in Maine this year, there were many mosquitos, but they were everywhere this year.

I've been renting cottages on Southport for years and have seen many, many cottages. Snowman Cottage has one of the best views and locations on the island. We put our kayaks in right from the rocks on the property and searched for sea glass at low tide. Having my morning tea on the deck looking out to the lighthouse was wonderful. The outside of the house needs some work, but the inside has everything you need - comfy beds, new couches, stocked kitchen, great water pressure and hot water in the shower, laundry, etc.... Two families, seven people, ages 11-47 were quite comfortable. It's a rustic, old Maine cottage for sure, however, if you want an affordable place on the water in Southport, you can't do much better than Snowman Cottage!

This cottage was lovely, clean and very well-equipped. Weloved all of the antiques and plenty of room to spread out. The view of the ocean and lighthouse was gorgeous. Jill made sure we had everything we needed and gave us a lot of helpful information prior to check-in. We enjoyed the Inn’s walking trails and pool next door as we were permitted to use them as renters of this cottage. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at this cottage and enjoyed the use of the pool and other facilities at the Newagen Inn. We had kayaks delivered from Tidal Transit in Boothbay and used them to explore the area. As others have mentioned, there are some things inside the house that could benefit from upgrades, but all of us in our multi-generational family were quite happy here!

Beautiful location and view
This is a older Maine cottage right on the water with amazing views. Beds were comfortable. We brought our own bedding.

Great location. House needs some upgrade and cleaning up…. And organizing drawers and under counters! And stocking up with basic necessities.

Maine getaway
We absolutely loved the location of this property. As others mentioned, the house is rather rustic, and could use some upgrades…that said, we really enjoyed our stay. My 8 year old grandson loved the pool next door, and digging in the rocks on the shoreline.

Overall it was a nice play to stay by the shore and was within access of all the sites we wanted to visit.

Great Vacation
This house was just what we were looking for! It was an older house and somewhat outdated, however to me that is exactly what I think of when I think of a Maine house, a house that is sturdy and has survived many, many winters and storms. The location couldn't have been better with a spectacular view from the deck that we used every single day!

Snowman Cottage
The property is in a superb location. The view to Cuckold Light is beautiful. We chose the property because of all the amenities it has to offer with Newagen Inn practically in the backyard! We enjoyed the deck at mealtime and all the area has to offer

Fun and cozy
We had an amazing time at the Snowman Cottage. Sitting on the decks and exploring the trails were some of our highlights. The most special part was Jill offering an accessible home so we could bring our 87 year old dad. Special family memories were made. We look forward to coming again.

Amazing location!
Beautiful location right on the water with a stellar view. It was a huge plus to use the pool and other outdoor amenities at the resort! It was perfect for our family. Jill called me several days before our arrival to answer any questions, which I really appreciated. All in all it was perfect for our group, which included several young children.

Peaceful Stay in Lovely Cottage
The property is clean and neat. There are many antiques and other items in the cottage that make it charming. It is clean yet family friendly so as a family with children you aren't afraid of just being yourself and relaxing. The owner is a very nice person and reaches out to communicate prior to your stay. The food everywhere nearby is terrific. It is a little more than an hour drive to Portland but a great location so many things are an hour or less away. The closest grocery store is only about 15 minutes away. Restaurants and things are close by yet the cottage is in a location that is peaceful and slightly secluded. My kids were able to go into the water by the boathouse and caught some tiny crabs when the tide was out they were thrilled with it. We went to beaches , a whale watch, toured a few parks. Great location and close to other things.

Very nice property, exactly as listed! Wonderful views on the Newagen harbor from the deck, we could launch our kayak directly from the boat house. We enjoyed an amazing weather! Access to the facilities of the Newagen inn are an incredible bonus: pool, tennis courts, paths.. We spent a week in paradise, eating lobster every day! The kitchen is very well equipped.Jill is easy to deal with and responds very quickly. Would highly recommend this property!

Perfect Getaway Spot
This property was exactly as we expected. It is hard to beat the location, right on the water and next to the Inn. We had coffee on the boathouse deck while the kids hunted for sea glass. Easy location for hikes along the rocky coast. If you are looking for a fancy cottage, this isn't your place, but if you want a cozy home that covers the basics and allows you to step away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. There is no AC, but when we visited in July there was no need for it at all. Open windows with the sound of the harbor bell in the distance is all we needed.

Beautiful ocean views!
We had a great time staying here for our 1st time. The location is amazing and very peaceful! We enjoyed drinking our coffee in the morning and our cocktails at sunset admiring the boats and water on the deck. It was also nice to have access to the Inn's facilities.
With a little TLC this place would be perfect!

Maine vacation
Enjoyed being in Southport again. House comfortable but stairs may be too much soon as we are 80 or almost.
Nice to be able to use Newagen pool right out back of house. Also went to restaurant there.

High on our "First Choice" list.
This was our 4th stay at this location. We enjoy the quiet relaxation that is inherent with the location. There are some improvements that are needed but the owner has said that she will see to it that they will be implemented before next year.
It's an older property but is well maintained and any help, if needed, is quick to respond.

Beautiful Location
We all enjoyed our stay at this cottage. By providing handicap accessibility, a family member was able to stay with us (to make it even better, there could be a higher toilet and grab bars iintalled in the shower). The house was very well furnished with plenty of kitchenware. It was very relaxing to spend time on the deck watching the tides come and go.

Perfect location, wonderful views!
We just completed our second two-week stay at Snowman Cottage. The cottage was, as before, very comfortable, this time with brand-new beds. Free amenities at the Inn were, again, a real plus, and the views from Cape Newagen are amazing. We had a full moon over the water our last night there. What could be better?

Peaceful getaway
I loved this place! It's cozy, with lots of beautiful views from inside and out. The lighthouse, the boathouse, the pier, the sailboats, just lovely. When the tide goes out, the sea floor is covered in sea glass. Star gazing was amazing! The only issue I had was with the Newagen Seaside Inn next door. They would not let us use any of the amenities except the pool. That was ok, it was the way they went about it, just so rude! The owner, Corrine, would not even come out of her office to speak to us, and James at the front desk was quite snarky. Make sure to visit the alpaca farm at the end of the street. The couple that own it are so kind. They let us pet the alpacas and I bought some cozy socks from their store. Also, Robinson's Wharf restaurant was excellent for dining out or they will steam your lobsters to go. Jill was amazing, so pleasant and helpful! I would definitely stay here again.

This home is the most wonderful place on earth! I would recommend this property to anyone looking to spend some quality time enjoying the most spectacular views you could ask for. The cottage has a very comfortable, cozy feel with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Highly recommend!

Great family vacation with breathtaking views!!
This was our families fourth summer vacationing at Snowman Cottage. We love the location and quaintness of the cottage. The house is well equipped.
Jill, the owner, is a pleasure to work with and is very prompt in responding to any issue.
Enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck looking at the ocean and Cuckolds lighthouse.

Peace and quiet on Southport Island
Our two-week vacation at Snowman Cottage was a great summer getaway. The owner, Jill, made sure the cottage was well equipped, with new kitchen and laundry appliances and everything else we needed for a carefree stay. Views of Cape Newagen from the cottage’s deck can’t be beat. Access to the amenities of the Newagen Seaside Inn, especially the beautiful swimming pool, were also a big plus for our family. We had stayed in the Boothbay area on several previous vacations, but this was our first rental on Southport Island, and we loved it. Southport is close enough to Boothbay Harbor to take advantage of all the attractions, yet quiet and peaceful. There are plenty of dining-out options on Southport, and great take-out from the Southport General Store. Would we do this again? You bet we would!

Perfect Maine Coast getaway
I just wanted to send you a note to tell you how wonderful our week in the Snowman cottage was. We enjoyed everything about it. The location is absolutely spectacular as we knew it would be, but the condition and comfort of the cottage exceeded expectations. We all remarked on how well we slept and how comfortable the beds were. Being able to use the pool at Newagen was a nice perk, especially for the youngest among us, my ten year old son.
It brought back great memories for all of us as my family has vacationed on Southport for many many years but it's been a while since we've stayed near Newagen.
Thanks so much. I hope we can rent the cottage again in the future.

Great couple get away
We would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a place to "get away from it all". The house was clean, comfortable and well stocked. It gave us a chance to sit and watch the sea and the tides away from the hustle bustle of the Maine coast vacation centers but close enough to drive to in a few minutes to enjoy those. The property was clean and well cared for. We were able to enjoy several meals by cooking them ourselves in the 'ready and waiting' kitchen or to buy prepared food and bring it back to enjoy on the deck at sunset. Many restaurant choices were nearby in Boothbay Harbor and at the bridge.
We enjoyed the quiet and meditative atmosphere and the view of the sunset from Newagen Inn's property next door is best described as 'spectacular'.
Highly recommended.

Arrived at the cottage for a month lease and found the following: Yard unkept with weeds growing up against the house about a foot high, deck and deck furniture filthy, entry door screen torn open allowing flys and bees in, no screens on living room windows, syrup drippings on dining table and house in a generally unclean condition. Called Manager and Owner regarding the condition. No response from them for 2 days. Bought $50 of rugs and cleaning supplies to make the house livable(Owner did reimburse us for the $50 after my compliant) On first Friday there, water heater quit working, called Manager and Owner, no resonse. Finally called Plumber myself and got fixed. Finally heard from Owner on Monday(4 days later). At end of second week, yardman showed up and was taking deck furniture. Said they were going to replace it, but couldn't say when replacements would come. We had to ask that he leave old furniture until new comes, otherwise we would have no deck furniture!! Plumbing issues prevail, shower drips, tub doesn't drain unless lever is held down, etc. My point is, if you lease this house, you are on your own, You will get no help from the so called Manager(never returned a call) and mostly excuses from the Owner why she couldn't respond sooner. We just gave up and handled issue ourselves. On the positive side, the view is great and Inn next door is a big plus. Its just a shame that these good points are offset by the mismanagement of the property.

Cool Cottage
My wife and I stayed at this rental property for the third time beginning in September, 2014. Everything about the property and it's location were top notch to say the least. Top notch except for the beds. The king in the upstairs bedroom has (had?) a foam mattress that funnels you toward the center. If you wanted to turn onto your side, you had to roll uphill. Getting up in the morning was like trying to get up out of a huge cotton ball. My wife got along well there as she is a "back sleeper". I went to the bedroom next room over and found the queen bed very much more supportive and I slept well on that mattress. The twins on the first floor tended to send you to one side or the other as they felt a bit high in the center.
We like the place well enough to go back again but would like to speak to the owner about those mattresses.

A fantastic location and very relaxing spot!
The cottage comfortably fit our family of 6! The amenities at the Newagen Inn were amazing perks- hammovks by the sea, a heated swimming pool, a great restaurant with fantastic happy hour deals. We visit Boothbay every year for a few days and spending the whole week there was so nice. We finally had a chance to visit the aquarium and the botanical garden and got our fill of lobster, too. I would have given this a 5 star if the living room couch had not been completely worn out and if the deck furniture had been cleaner. I just spread some sheets out on all the furniture and made it work fine. I was very happy with the rustic cottage feel of the place. We will definitely return in the next year or two!
