About this house rental
Built in the early 2000’s, our 1100 sq ft open-concept family home was designed to maximize observation of nature and yet make one feel cozy and sheltered from the elements. Vaulted ceilings and ample windows allow lots of natural light into the house. There are sheer curtains that provide privacy but no black out curtains which allows you to observe where the sun, moon and stars are located in the skies. We are located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Nestled in the trees, you can hear the sound of the ocean with a secluded beach path minutes away from spectacular Chesterman Beach. We are now opening up to offer visitors a unique experience to explore nature and culture at the same time. Our home features a collection of original oil paintings and watercolors of the region painted over the last decade with a self-guided exhibition, just as you would find in a major art museum. These paintings feature different scenic landmarks of Clayoquot Sound and give visitors a unique experience and hopefully a deeper appreciation of all the surrounding nature.
In the evenings, get warm and cozy by our natural gas fireplace in the sunken living room, play somemusic and enjoy sipping some wine while taking in a large format oil painting of the rainforest.
Fall asleep on one of the 2 twin beds in the upstairs loft bedroom where lots of windows showcase the trees and starry night skies and allow you to follow the path of the moon through the night. The cozy master bedroom shares the double-sided gas fireplace with the sunken living room and has a queen bed. All our beds have comfortable sheets and duvets.
Our cedar deck comes with a propane BBQ and outdoor hot shower. The bathroom comes with heated floors, bath tub, shower and towels. Please bring your favourite bath and beauty products for your own use. We have a hairdryer for guests to use.
The kitchen with custom fir cabinetry is fully equipped with cookware , blender, coffee maker, salt and pepper etc. Dish cloths and dish soap are also provided.
The artist’s studio is in a building adjacent to the house. We are a family with young children and we live on the property in the studio and also in a suite downstairs. We are usually outdoors but occasionally you can hear the sounds of our studio grand piano floating in the air. We value your time, enjoyment and privacy during your vacation and will not be interacting with you much during your stay but should you need anything please don’t hesitate to let us know.

We book Esther's place every year and are never disappointed. The house is wonderfully set up to enjoy the inside and outside deck. The location is perfect for walking down to the beach for a surf. Esther herself is always kind and welcoming.

Overall a lovely stay and our rental was extremely comfortable. It's much larger than it looks from the ouside. Well equipped, maybe some tisues, but I'm not complaining. Plenty of cutlery, crockery and saucepans, etc. Definitely would stay again.

Overall, the property is spacious with different sitting areas and 2 floors, its a 5 min walk to the beach and quiet neighborhood. Kitchen is decently equipped, but there were no bathroom soaps/shampoos. The place is relatively clean, but it could use some basic TLC. The outdoor deck definitely needs some attention. Given the location is so central to Chesterman Beach and walking distance to some shops/coffee/eating places we enjoyed our stay and would book again.

We loved the location! The beach is really close, less than a 5 minute walk to one of the best beaches in Tofino.
The house was cute, a little on the unkept side. While the BBQ did function, it was so rusty that it was not safe to use. Last thing you want is to poison your family while on Vacation.

The North Chesterman beach is easy to access from a path down the road from where you stay. A lovely way to greet the morning. A short walk away is a hotel with restaurant called ROAR, a wonderful friendly place. Dogs are allowed in certain areas where you eat and the food, beer and service is excellent. Again a short walking distance is the Wickeninish Inn which is world renowned. It’s a must visit as the views are great and food, drinks and service outstanding. You can just go in for a drink and snack. Prices fine. Eating at the restaurant expensive but a real treat. The maîtrede has a wit and charm second to none. Long beach is a must with its miles of beach. Uculet is an easy drive. Tofino is a lovely small place. I recommend you have a lunch or dinner at the Daddy’s Fish Fry. The fresh halibut and prawns are excellent.Where we stayed was comfortable enough and so well situated.

Exactly property close to beach and the park

I'm not one to give bad reviews but while the location is excellent and the size was perfect for our family, we were disappointed with several aspects of this stay. Most importantly, the place did not seem very clean. There were cobwebs in a lot of the corners, we had to give the kitchen a wipe down, and we weren't sure if the sheets had been cleaned since the ones on the master bed were very wrinkled and had some holes and a huge rip in one corner. The listing mentioned a complimentary bar of locally made soap, which was nowhere to be found, and the "outdoor shower" is just a faucet and showerhead on the wall on the deck. We communicated with the owner, and she responded promptly. She did give us a refund to account for the missing soap, but she did not address the lack of cleanliness except to give us access to a closet of extra linens so we could remake the beds ourselves. Other minor details: there was no laundry detergent provided, and the machines are out in the open, so they are very loud when running. There's an old, unusable picnic table on the deck, and the view of (and stairs down to) the yard has been blocked off because it is terribly overgrown. Some of the wall switches are taped off, and the control for the fireplace is taped to the wall. Overall, it really seems like the owners aren't concerned about their guests' experience and aren't willing to put work into improving it. It's a shame, because the place really has a lot of potential to be a gorgeous spot.

It is simply a great place to stay. 5 minute walk to the beach and 5 minute drive to town and very spacious house.

Great spot right near North Chestermans beach. Easy walk to surf. It is far roomier than you perceive based on the images. Wonderful communication and great for a family. Note for anyone with little ones just learning to walk, the drop-down living area may keep you busy as they climb up and down the steps. I would absolutely come back.

Minutes to the beach and minutes to the coffee shop! Great location being so central. Check in and out was a breeze. Wonderful paintings on the wall. Would have been nice to know more about the artist, there were no titles or bio posted in the house.
While it wasn't dirty, it wasn't clean. Needed an over all deep cleaning.
Back deck was odd to hang out on due to the fact that it had bamboo mats screening off any view, including the trees.

The location is great, and dog friendly house is spacious
Suggestions - some general upkeep would made this property more comfortable. For example the pocket door to the bathroom would not close (jammed) as was the patio door - came off the track. The fireplace was not working (owner mentioned this) but would have been really nice to have.

The house was bigger than I expected from the photos. It has a really relaxed lovely vibe. The 5 min walk to Chesterman cannot be beat. I would book again absolutely.

Location was great and worked perfect for our stay in Tofino. Place was clean but could definitely use some TLC in places inside and especially on the deck in the back which could use some Love for sure. We would book again but would be nice to see some updates out back especially if visiting in the warmer months in summer.

The highlights of this property were the large, well appointed kitchen, the comfortable beds, the plush bathroom towels and the peace and quiet. The walk to Chesterman beach is only 4 minutes:)
The entrance would have been more welcoming and have more "curb appeal" if there were a few flower baskets by the entrance and if the grass and foliage by the parking spot were tidier.

Stayed 4 nights. Great weather for late September. Home was more than adequate for our stay. It actually has beds for 8 people, but with a single bathroom that number might be a problem. For the three of us, just fine.
Suggestions for improvement:
Under counter lighting The working area in the kitchen is quite dark.
Having the heat on prior to guests arriving would be a much nicer arrival than a cold, dark one. ….at least in the fall or winter, anyway.
Having said that, we would not hesitate to stay again or recommend this home to our friends.

This is our third time renting Esther’s place! What can we say - she is a lovely host, her place is clean, comfortable, spacious, in a quiet neighborhood all within a 10 mins walk to Chesterman Beach. We have already booked again for next year!

Well equipped, bright kitchen. The house was clean. Not expensive compared to other locations in the area, so don’t expect 4-5*. The yard, garden, and patio need serious work.

Regarding the host, Esther, she was quick to respond to any concerns. For example, the cleaning service had failed to clean the floors and kitchen upon our arrival. There were not enough tea towels, paper towels, toilet paper and there were worn old bathroom towels for our use. Host promptly refunded the cleaning fee, informed us where to find new towels and cleaning supplies (and we found the toilet paper).
Unit is in a nice quiet neighborhood and is a 5 min. walk to the beach. Appreciate greatly that it is a dog friendly unit. Parking on property for our vehicle. There is no backyard.
Unit requires deep cleaning on the windowsills, tracks, screens, and baseboards. The deck is not pleasant to sit in due to the broken, falling down bamboo privacy screens. It desperately needs a new garbage can for kitchen. The sliding glass kitchen door to deck is not functioning and requires heavy maneuvering to open and close.
Bed in master bedroom was ok. Bedding was very clean and smelled fresh. Beds upstairs are really meant for children. They are not comfortable for an adult.
We had issue with the fireplace, resulting in us calling host as we needed to turn off the gas supply.
A welcome binder with basic info regarding recycling and garbage expectations, house care would be helpful.

Overall the cabin was clean and large with lots of space for our family of four and our large dog. Full kitchen and bath and the bathroom floor was a nice touch. And it's walking distance to Chesterman Beach, which is amazing! A few small issues - the sliding door to the deck is not working properly which made closing it extremely difficult. And there was not enough toilet paper or paper towel available (we called and asked for more but never got an answer so we bought our own). Overall we enjoyed our stay!

This was my second time staying here, and I would definitely choose this property again! Great location with an easy walk to the beach and a short drive to town. Place had everything we needed and was spacious enough for our group. The only thing that was missing was the hot tub from the listing. Thank you for having us!

We found the location convenient. Except to get into Tofino proper, we walked everywhere, ie to Cox Beach, MacKenzie Beach, the Tonquin Connector Trail, and the Mud Flats trail.

A very short walk to Chesterman Beach and Tofino town. Good beds, roomy, they take dogs. But the kitchen faucet was very loose, light bulbs burned out, the walls are not clean, the sheets had little stains, there is a lot of built up dirt in places in the bathroom. Absolutely no closet except in the front entryway. Did not feel welcomed or that the place had been shown much care. Don't get much in Tofino for the money.

There was plenty of space for us. The kitchen was well equipped which was good as we ate breakfasts there and brought in takeout as Tofino restaurants were so busy. It would have been nice to have some wipeable placemats to protect the table. Also a garbage container and a mirror in the upstairs bathroom would be helpful as there is only one bathroom and it’s on the main floor next to the master bedroom.

Bears had scattered trash for several days. One electric plug was away from wall so small kids could put in a finger. 8 lights were not In working order. Light over the stove not working. Ceiling fan not working. No light working over the table. Picnic table upside down. A lot of trash in the deck. Overall maintenance both inside and out was below standards. A price of just under$500.00 including taxes and fees was not close to being justified. I felt cheated. John T.

Great communication. Super location. Loved listening to the water at night and star gazing was terrific.
House layout is excellent. Well stocked kitchen (it could maybe use a deep clean but may be difficult due to frequent bookings) but it is tidy and I loved the two sided fireplace. Would definitely book again.

We loved how close it is to the beach, it’s a 5 minute walk (I timed it) along a forest trail that slopes gently down, or by the road. The house itself has lots of space and is comfortable and well stocked. The deck was nice and private. It is definitely not a luxury accomodation, but it was a great home base for our family for exploring the area and for relaxing in the evening.
One little quirk is that you can sort of see through the fireplace from the living room to the master bedroom, but only people’s feet, so it’s not a big problem :)
