About this house rental
In the beautiful Fern Valley area of Idyllwild, the home is bright, sunny and open, and the perfect mountain getaway for a group of friends, one or two couples, or a couple with children.
Built in 2002, the home has all the modern conveniences (forced air heating, air conditioning, gas fireplace, microwave, dishwasher, electric stove and oven) and every comfort you'd want in that getaway weekend. Everything is on the first floor (there is a loft above the kitchen but nothing is up there) and the two bedrooms have queen beds and their own bathrooms with showers. There is a washer/dryer as well. The bedrooms and living room are carpeted for cozy warmth, and the kitchen, bathtooms, dining area and hallways are tiled. The huge deck has a table and chairs and is the perfect place to sit out and watch the wildlife and incredible sunsets.
The road to the home as well as the driveway are wide and well-maintained. It's only 1.4 miles to the center of town, and even less to many beautiful hiking trails, from easy to moderate to strenuous levels of difficulty. We even discovered the home is about 75 yards from the popular and easy Ernie Maxwell Trail, which also runs to and from Humber Park.
When we come up to Idyllwild we find our weekends last very long as time does seem to go slower when we're relaxing and simply enjoying the beauty of the area.
Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 11:00 a.m. For earlier or later times please ask me and we try to accommodate but it depends on the previous and next guests and the housekeeping schedule. For groups with more than four adults (ages 10 and over) a charge of $30 per night per extra guest will be charged (maximum five guests). Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m.to 7:00 a.m. We asks that if you have more than two bags of trash you make a trip to the dump: Idyllwild Transfer Center at 28100 Saunders Meadow Rd., Idyllwild. Posted hours are M-Th: 7:30-5:30, F: 7:30-4:30, closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays (but we always find them open on Sundays, so go figure).

Perfect accommodations--bright, cathedral ceilings and large windows looking out on nature. Everything clean and nicely appointed for our stay. Loved it, and would love to come back. Thanks for making it available.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Staying among the trees with the sounds of so many birds gave all of us a sense of peace that is hard to come by. The cabin itself fit into the outdoors so perfectly. Everything you need was there. Our host, Suzanne, was readily available. I hope to return often.

We had an incredible stay at this VRBO home. The house was immaculately clean and stocked with everything we could possibly need, from kitchen essentials to extra linens.
The attention to detail really made us feel at home. The location is absolutely stunning—nestled in a beautiful area that provided breathtaking views and a peaceful environment. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and scenic getaway!

We loved our stay at Fern Valley, which felt like living in a luxury tree house. The house is surrounded by mature oak trees, which provide beauty and shade on the spacious deck outside, where you can watch sunsets. The house is immaculately maintained, is beautiful inside and out, the bathrooms and kitchen are well supplied with necessities, and the beds are very comfortable. A huge plus is that pets are welcome. The host is friendly and quick to respond to queries. I couldn't dream up a better place to stay in Idyllwild.

We came to Idyllwild to hike. The house was roomy and open, and very private, the beds comfortable, & all the amenities as advertised. After a hard day of hiking, & in the morning for the 1st cup of the day, the deck, surrounded by trees, was a beautiful space to kick back. Highly Recommended.

If you are looking for a beautiful home to rent in Idyllwild, this is the one. The kitchen is well stocked with pretty much all the pots and pans, dishes, silverware, etc that you will need. The living room and bedrooms are clean, tidy, and comfortably furnished. The two bathrooms had plenty of clean towels and hot water.
We spent almost three whole days just sitting on the deck feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. With the home being located at almost the top of the valley, it was exceeding quiet.
If we are able, we will certainly be back again.
Thank you Suzanne for hosting us.

I spent a wonderful long weekend in this Fern Valley house. The neighborhood is very quiet, I enjoyed listening to bird songs, the house is all surrounded by beautiful trees.
The house itself is very clean and comfortable.
A great living room for relaxing and reading. A full kitchen for making your own meals if you feel like it. Bedrooms and bathrooms are very nicely decorated and very comfortable.
Squirrels and a big blue Steller’s jay come to the deck if you leave some treats out.
And of course the extra bonus was the easy access to Ernie Maxwell trail - walking distance, right around the corner, so you can get on that trail and walk right to the Devil’s Slide trailhead and gets and extra nice hike without any driving.
If you are trying to decide which VRBO property to book in Idyllwild - this one is amazing!!!

My family loved this home with all the necessities to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. It was spacious, homey and we loved the wrap-around balcony.
We did encounter an unexpected snow event, that created challenges getting up/down the hill after hours of heavy snowfall. Suzanne was incredible a helpful, along with her local network who was able to provide snow shoveling and an escort in his 4X4 vehicle which allowed us to reconnect with our car left down the hill, unable to make it back up due to all that snow.
We recommend this home, but if here in a major winter event I would recommend having snow tires or a 4X4 vehicle. Our car had neither. We do plan to stay again in the summer where the chance of is snow less possible!
My thanks to Suzanne & Hector for the excellent communication and assistance.

Beautiful mountain retreat. The home was cozy, clean, and well organized. The home was well appointed with linens, dishes, and cookware. We enjoyed the deck when the weather was nice and enjoyed hunkering down inside when we got snowed in. The home and hostess were amazing.

Property is located in beautiful secluded woodsy area. Soon after arrival, we had a light snow which was perfect. The home was clean and well-designed with good amenities. My only complaint, and this perhaps would not be a negative to some people, is that the only cable news channel available is FOX NEWS, the Trump lie-machine!.

The property was lovely, comfortable and in an beautiful and quiet hilltop location. I can't say enough about our gracious hosts, Suzanne and Phil, and their attention to every detail designed to make our stay relaxing, our check-in hassle-free. Their "handbook" for the house made us feel right at home with every appliance and switch in the house.
We will certainly be back!

We stayed three nights in February, although it didn't snow during our stay the girls had so much fun in the remaining snow around the house which lasted the whole stay. House is comfortable and quiet with everything you need you need to make meals and watch movies.

Suzanne was great and communicated quickly. The property is beautiful. I will agree with Suzanne, which I don’t remember seeing in the description, and that is when the weather is bad, you need an all-wheel-drive vehicle to get to the elevated property.

We had the very best time! Everything was so clean and there were so many kitchen appliances to use. We managed to make a delicious pot roast in the crockpot. Unexpectedly, it snowed. Suzanne was kind enough to send someone to shovel the stairs and driveway for us. We have found our home away from home!

This is a lovely home in a beautiful neighborhood with beautiful view and wrap around deck. The home layout is perfect for a family. It is also pet friendly which was very important to us as we have never left the dogs or kids in the care of others. The village is quaint & very lively. Pizza place is very good, but very busy. The location was perfect. Highly recommend. Thank you.

Overall we are very satisfied with our stay. I had to contact Suzanne, the owner, several times due to my own fault, yet she has been very patient and helpful to me. The bathrooms were very clean. The kitchen had almost everything we need. This is our first time to this area. The downtown of Idyllwild is small. There are not many stores compared to Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear. But we walked around, took some photos and came back to the cabin resting, chatting, cooking together. We felt comfortable and relaxed staying warm inside when it was raining and cold outside. We found out there are many painted deer scattered around the town. They are very beautiful and colorful. It is fun to locate them and take photos with them. The reception of cell phone there was excellent too.

I loved the house/cabin. Everything was perfect. So wonderfully quiet and close to everything. Getting to Ernie Maxwell trail from the wash up the road was treacherous and I would not recommend unless you have really good balance and experience walking up extremely steep sandy hills. However. once you get the the top, the Ernie Maxwell trail is easy when going to the right and really beautiful. I loved it. I went to the end and walked back to cabin on streets which was really great too. The houses along the way are fantastic.

This rental is about as perfect as a rental can be. The location (up in the hills a bit) was beautiful, quiet, and, even though there were residences a 100 or so feet away, the place felt secluded. Inside, the place was immaculate, the heating system worked wonderfully, and the hot water was actually hot! (I really dislike rental that keep the water temp down in order to save a few buck). The main room was well lit with proper lighting. The kitchen was well stocked with basic essentials.
The only thing to be beware of is that there are stairs to get to the house that might be difficult for those with walking problems. The town is a little over a mile away which is just right for those that like to take walks (but the way back to the house is all uphill!!). The only down rating I would give this house is the TV...in this age of large screens the TV seemed small and, unfortunately, this model had poor sound quality.
Thus, this place was 99.44% perfect...it's hard to get better than that!

We made a return visit to this wonderful Idyllwild cabin for a brief two-night getaway with another couple. It felt like coming home as this cabin is so warm and extremely functional. The setting is so beautiful with trees surrounding the property which gives it plenty of privacy. As always, the place I was extremely clean and had everything we needed. We just love this place!!!

This is our second year staying at Suzanne's home. The house is so cozy and the perfect size for my husband and I and our dog. We love that an entrance to the Ernie Maxwell trail is just up the street. We also love that the drive into town is short. We spent time hiking, walking around the shops and visiting the brewery and the winery. Middle Ridge Winery had live music on the weekend which was great. The restaurants have outside seating so we can take our dog - and heaters. Suzanne is great and always quick to respond. Can't wait to come back!

We wanted Celebrating our 25th Anniversary to be special. So, we booked a cabin in the Idyllwild area where we could enjoy US! The cabin was spacious and yet cozy. Surrounded by an outside deck that let us appreciate the trees, the birds, squirrels, rabbits and FRESH FRESH AIR!! The mattresses in the bedrooms were excellent. Allowing for a good nights rest before taking off to the trails. Situated just driving minutes from downtown Idyllwild made for convenient walks around the shops. Suzanne was a pleasant and friendly host. She has the cabin set up with everything needed in the kitchen and throughout making life EZ. Considering that the cost to rent the entire cabin was about 1/2 of a good hotel room in the hustle and bustle of San Diego, I believe we made the right choice. We will be returning!

Everything was great for a quick getaway to the mountains! The cabin was clean and ready early for check in. We loved hanging out on the deck and watching the wildlife. The kitchen had everything for us to stay in and cook, and Suzanne even gave us some great recommendations for live music in town…would definitely stay again

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home, with total privacy in the midst of huge old oaks and manzanitas. The owner was extremely helpful and gracious, and the home was perfect in every way. Relaxing on the deck in the shade of the oaks, watching the squirrels and birds, was a delight. Don’t miss the nearby Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail, it’s as refreshing and scenic as anywhere in California. Highly recommend!

Our first trip to Idylwild turned out to be one of the most relaxing experiences of our lives thanks to this lovely home perched high above it all!!
It’s location is ideal, with a view toward the sunset and a short, steep scramble to the Ernie Maxwell Trail. It has a large private deck under beautiful trees that house a multitude of birds and squirrels. (Bring some Black Oil Sunflower Seed bird mix and unsalted peanuts to make new friends!)
The home itself has huge windows oriented to the best views and comfortable furnishings. It is fully stocked, charmingly decorated and keep very clean. The plush bedding will lull you to sleep as a bajillion stars shine outside.
The owner, Suzanne, communicates quickly and was accommodating to our special requests. We really appreciate her tranquil getaway and look forward to returning again. Thanks Suzanne!
ProTip: If your schedule is flexible, check the availability calendar for midweek and last minute deals!

We always have a peaceful time at this home. It is clean and quiet. You can't beat it. We have stayed at this home many times and always look forward to the return visit. The owner seems to improve this home yearly, new dishes and now Roses on the coffee table. In idyllwild I do get tired of all the Italian restaurants but you can't beat The Red Kettle for breakfast.
