About this house rental
Seaworthy is a 1929 fisherman's cottage located in New Harbor, Maine. Seaworthy is newly renovated providing modern conveniences and original Maine craftsmanship. Renovation includes a spacious deck where you can watch the boats come in. The first floor bedroom has a full size bed and adjoining full bath. The large 400 square foot primary bedroom has a queen size bed, seating area, and lovely harbor views. The third bedroom has a full size bed and great harbor views. Seaworthy has two full bathrooms one on each level, a living room, laundry room, and an eat in full kitchen. Every room has gleaming wood floors. We offer a newly renovated home that is beautiful, comfortable, full of art, antiques, and all things Maine. Please note: The stairs to the second floor are quite steep and may not be suitable for some guests.
Seaworthy is situated on a hill overlooking the harbor in New Harbor Maine-one of Maine's most picturesque working harbors. You’ll watch the sun rise and set, the lobster boats come and go, and the ever changing tides. The lobster wharf where boats come and go bringing in their lobster catch is across the street. The freshest most delicious seafood is available at the wharf. Seagulls circle the harbor and seals are often spotted in the harbor. You can sit and watch the activity from the deck or the many windows in the house. Seaworthy's roots come from a working fishing family and is a perfect home to visit if you love the ocean and Maine coast. Seaworthy is an all season home so you can enjoy the fall and winter months as well as the spring and summer seasons. C.E. Riley and Son Grocer is located within a mile of the home and is open all year. They have a wonderful deli and bakery at the store. There are many things to do in each season.
The sights just outside Seaworthy are spectacular. You may explore the beautiful rocky Maine coast or just sit and enjoy the ebb and flow of the ocean surf all within walking distance. Rachel Carson Preserve is a quarter mile from the home; Pemaquid Beach and Maine's most photographed lighthouse just 3 miles away. The ferry to Monhegan island is located at the lobster wharf across the street, just steps from the house. During summer months thru fall you can take the 12 mile ride to Monhegan island for a day trip or take seal and Puffin tours. October is spectacular for the amazing leaf colors splashed across the region.
The home is an hour and fifteen minutes north of Portland and 2.5 hours north of Boston and Manchester which makes a flight in very easy. The coastal route to Seaworthy wanders thru and near many beautiful towns such as Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Portland, Freeport, Brunswick, Bath, Wiscasset, and Damariscotta. There are many opportunities for day trips north and south of the house. There are many antique shops and art galleries for every taste.
These are some of our favorite things to do and we hope you’ll have a chance to find your own too!
*Wade at the Rachel Carson Salt Pond on the ocean at low tide just down the road from the house.
*Take the most beautiful walk or run down the road, along the open ocean shore to Long Cove and back.
*Sit on the deck and watch the lobster boats come and go. Walk across the road to the wharf and watch the fishermen unload their lobster catch of the day.
*Take a Hardy Boat cruise to Monhegan Island or go see the Puffins and seals.
*Have a picnic and climb on the rocks at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. If you are lucky you can go up into this beautiful lighthouse. The art gallery on the lighthouse grounds features work by local Maine artists.
*Get to Rileys Grocery in New Harbor at 8:00 AM and get the best cinnamon roll ever. I recommend the Turkey, Bacon, Ranch sandwich for lunch.
*Check out Colonial Pemaquid museum and Fort William Henry.
*Visit the local Farmers market for fresh local produce.
*Visit Popham Beach outside Bath and enjoy this gorgeous expansive beach.
*In August, visit the Maine Antiques Festival, Maine's largest.
*Buy your fresh lobster across the street at Shaws wharf for dinner.
*Build a sand castle and swim at Pemaquid Beach.
*Kayak rental is available. Kayak around New Harbor, Back Cove or up to Chamberlain.
*Enjoy a day shopping in Damariscotta, Reny's is where locals shop.
*Have a homemade breakfast at The Cupboard
*Spend the day antiquing and visiting the numerous local art galleries.
*Experience Maine’s nautical history at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.
*Play golf at Wawenock Golf Course or the Boothbay Country Club.
*View paintings from the Wyeth family and special exhibits at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland.
*Visit Wiscasset and its many shops. Have lunch at Reds-a traffic stopper and have dessert at Treats.
*Sail on a sailboat in the Camden Harbor or Rockland Harbor.
*In October enjoy The Pumpkin Fest in Damariscotta.
*Eat lobster on the docks at Shaws Wharf or the Pemaquid Harbor Co-op.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in New Harbor with our two adult children and their spouses. The three bedrooms and two bathrooms worked great, and the kitchen is a nice size and well equipped. The location next to a beautiful harbor is so nice, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the lobster boats and getting beautiful harbor pictures. all times of the day

We had a wonderful vacation! The house was the perfect Coastal Maine vacation home! It was beautifully decorated and very clean, the beds were also very comfortable. Very convenient to a restaurant ( across the road), grocery store, and Pemaquid beach, which is absolutely beautiful.. Also 5 minutes from LaVerna Preserve, definitely worth the hike out onto the rocks! We hated to leave. SEAWORTHY was definitely WORTH it.

This is a sweet house in a beautiful setting. Bright and airy, comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen. We really enjoyed our time there. Two things to be aware of are: the stairs to the top floor are steep and very narrow; Monday mornings are noisy due to the garbage and diesel trucks servicing the working wharf across the street. We took a one-day trip to Monhegan Island, and it was very convenient to catch the boat right across the street. All in all, we loved staying at Seaworthy.

Wonderful property -- very nicely decorated and very clean house. Two drawbacks: 1) stairs to second floor are VERY steep, a concern for those with mobility issues (though there is a first floor bedroom and bath), 2) view from the porch is wonderful, but it is on a state road, so trucks and loud mufflers sometimes interrupt the tranquility. No place is perfect but this comes close.

Beautiful property. Very well decorated. Fun being across from Shaws Wharf and hearing the bands playing.
Stairs are very very steep. Not very safe for our 6 and 3 year old. Or older folks.
Downstairs bedroom was very stuffy. One small fan didn’t help. Lots of earwig bugs in both bathrooms.
Won’t go with Vrbo again as they charged extra 300 falsely accusing that we left a mess. No instructions on what to do when we left. The only “mess “ we left is we didn’t strip beds. We removed trash and recycling and ran dishwasher. No communication from caretakers .

This place is fully equipped with everything you need. It was so nice not to have to go to the laundromat!
The caretakers were quick to respond.
Beautiful location.

We had a wonderful stay! House was very clean and the owners quickly responded every time we had a question. The home is beautifully decorated and we were provided a manual of all the local eats and attractions prior to our stay. We will, certainly, book again!

Seaworthy is such a sweet cottage, we loved our stay there. Extremely clean, and adorable decor. Centrally located, so close to all our favorite spots in the area. I was worried that it would be noisy, since it’s across the street from Shaws wharf, but it was quiet and peaceful. Stairs to the second floor are definitely steep and narrow. Wasn’t a problem for us but something to be aware of. Lisa was very communicative and made everything very easy for us. Definitely recommend!

We had the best week! Sea Worthy Cottage is absolutely adorable and everything was just as you see in the listing. We definitely will be back. New Harbor is one of Maines best kept secrets.

We stayed at the Seaworthy in mid September 2022. We were delighted when we walked into the house to find that it was just as described, restored and decorated beautifully and thoughtfully. The kitchen had everything we needed and supplies were well stocked. The arrangements with upstairs sleeping quarters and bathroom separated from the downstairs bedroom and attached bathroom offered much privacy. Check-in could not have been easier. The owners, Lisa and Mark, responded almost immediately each time we had a question, both before and during our stay. They provided a detailed information packet about the house and area which we refered to often. We had the pleasure of meeting the caretaker Chris when he arrived to take care of a minor repair on a screen door handle. He was so friendly and provided us with information about the house and area as well. His wife, Heather, also responded right away via email when we had a question. Everyone we met was extremely friendly!! We loved being directly across the street from Shaw's and from Hardy Boat Cruises. We just walked across the road on the day we traveled to Monhegan Island. We enjoyed coffee on the front porch in the mornings and drinks in the evening looking out over the lobster boat filled harbor. A fun surprise was the music playing at Shaw's on Tuesday night as we sat (and danced) on the porch. This area is quiet and not crowded. There are some lovely places to visit, like nearby Pemaquid Lighthouse, Rachel Carson Salt Pond and Round Pond, and some of the local favorite places to eat. We visited some of the spots nearby, about 45 min to an hour away such as Camden and Boothbay Harbor, which were more populous, but we did prefer the peacefulness of this location best. You will have to consider this if you would like to be able to just walk for coffee or to eat a meal.* WiFi and texting worked well at the house, but we were unable to make cellphone calls. The landline helped greatly here. Also, one review stated that the stairs to the upstairs bedrooms were not for the faint of heart. They were right! They are steep and narrow. Our party is in our 60's and 70's and were able to navigate them, but you will want to consider this if stairs are an issue or if you have young kids? I know this was a long review, but we wanted to convey how much we enjoyed our stay here! We hope to be back.

The spacious artfully decorated Seaworthy home is so much more than a cottage! Wonderful seascapes and paintings throughout the tasteful rooms. We had a rainy fog day and we’re delighted to stay in this cozy home. The beds were Incredible….I sleep sooooo well as did my sisters ! I must find out the brand ! I did bring my own electric tea kettle as I drink hot tea but everything else we needed was there for cooking. Wonderful thick towels and even shampoo and shower wash. Lisa provided a wonderful packet of info (sent by mail) so we could study it before hand . We really got good at using the steep stairs and the hand rails were excellent. Would have loved some sort of shades or curtains in the master bedroom for nighttime but I still give it a full and thankful 5 stars ⭐️…..lovey haven on a sweet harbor!

The cottage is beautiful. I stared at the paintings for ages. The stairs were a challenge. Because you’re directly across Shaw’s the noise of an operating wharf with the generators can be distracting. The beds were very comfortable. Highly recommend.

Photo's Shown on Listing
House was nice and clean. Great area with good restaurants close. The photos on the listing are not accurate. The view from the house and the front porch are actually of a commercial property (restaurant and boat company) and their parking lot. You can see a little of the harbor but not much from the house.

Great host great area
Second time at this property and the home and area do not disappoint. property manager chris was amazing and helped with the smallest of issues. Only thing this place needs is a smart Tv to stream movies and shows for the kids after a long day on the beach or rainy days.

Perfect Stay
What a great stay we had at Seaworthy Cottage! The cottage is just as it appears on the listing photos—adorable, beautifully decorated in coastal themes, and perfectly appointed for an enjoyable and restful family vacation. We did a fair bit of cooking and the kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We were familiar with the area and found it to be conveniently located to some lovely attractions including Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Pemaquid Beach, Damariscotta and Wiscasset and of course a convenient walk to Shaw’s for lobster right across the street. Our stay at Seaworthy was exactly what we hoped it would be, and we look forward to future stays, as well.

Beautiful stay by the sea
This place was amazing. Secluded but everything we needed was accessible. The property is immaculate and gorgeous. Tasty food across the street at Shaw’s Wharf. The town is close and quaint. Would definitely stay here again!!
Notable things to mention:
AT&T Wireless service is completely non-existent for about a mile around the property. Wi-Fi is available at the house, but basic. Not that you should need much.
Those stairs…. The stairs are STEEP. We had small kids with us and they were ok but I lived in fear of falling down the stairs. Not for the faint of heart, or knees.

Lovely fisherman’s cottage. Excellent Maine experience.
We enjoyed our visit. The cottage is beautifully decorated and spacious. Convenient to all attractions Pemaquid peninsula has to offer. Appreciate the thoughtful details our host shared before our arrival. Hardy Boat for puffin watch and ‘Mohegan Islamd are across the street, both wonderful experiences. Watching lobsterman go about their business at New Harbor coop was entertaining. Great trip!

Fall foliage and warm cinnamon buns
It is so peaceful sitting at the kitchen table at Seaworthy, having breakfast and looking out the window at the fall foliage across the harbor.
Many local restaurants are closed for the season (late October), but Deb's Diner in Bristol is still open for delicious breakfasts, and there are many terrific restaurants still open in Damariscotta and Boothbay, nearby. Our favorite is King Eider in Damariscotta - best clam chowder anywhere. And the local market just down the street from Seaworthy, Reilly's, has melt in your mouth, warm out of the oven cinnamon buns.
Also, there is no shortage of hiking trails in nature preserves all of which take to to beautiful water vistas: riverfront or ocean.
We came back to Seaworthy just a month after our first visit and will be back in the spring.

A beautiful house in a great location
The house is magazine-shoot lovely, although it could use a bit more substance to go with its style to make it more comfortable. The kitchen layout isn't ideal for cooking lots of meals, but is fairly well equipped. The porch overlooking New Harbor is wonderful, and the location is good for exploring lots of good places in the area.

Seaworthy
This was our first stay @ Seaworthy + to say that it exceeded our expectations is an understatement. Beautifully renovated and decorated, and comfortable + fully stocked. Never at a loss for a cooking utensil! 😀 The chaise longue in the upstairs bedroom - wow! Lots of nice nearby hikes and kayaking and great restaurants. We've already booked another week in October.

Perfect location
We had a wonderful week at the Seaworthy cottage! It was a perfect spot for our family of four, plenty of room to spread out and relax with two teens. The decor is really cool and unique...loved the art and antiques and seaside theme. We were frequent customers of Shaw’s lobster pound, right across the street...awesome lobster rolls! New Harbor is a great launching point for exploring the area, lots to see and do. We had a great kayak trip with Maine Kayak, visited the Pemaquid Lighthouse and beach area, spent a day in Boothbay and one in Camden. Did some scenic hikes. We highly recommend the Seaworthy Cottage!

Communication from the start & through the week was stellar! We were given a great list of things to do and see which was a great help. House is adorable & just like the pictures. Furnishings were carefully selected & bring so much to the ambiance! Beds comfy too! Only thing I'd add is ability to shade front porch but we were there on an extremely hot week. Parking is easy & owners were spot on with how easy it is to walk to a few close places. Easy drive to other sightseeing locations. Thank you so much!

Comfortable and charming house
The owners have done a wonderful job designing the interiors of their home. It is fresh, clean, with great Maine touches. The house is across the street from Shaw’s and it was fun to watch the comings and goings of the lobstermen from the docks. Walks up to the Salt Pond in early morning were lovely. And the house is a super short drive from Reilly’s, the beaches and ice cream.

The Perfect Getaway
Seaworthy is the ideal place to get away from it all. The lovingly restored home is as beautiful in person as it is in the photos and morning coffee on the sun drenched, harbor view deck is nothing short of heavenly.
Whether you choose to unwind in New Harbor or visit the many unique and beautiful places Maine has to offer, this property is an excellent rental choice. Many thanks to the owners and property managers for a wonderful vacation. We look forward to returning!

Wonderful experience
We could not have asked for more from this lovely house in New Harbor. My friend was visiting Maine for the first time and the accommodations could not have been better. I already miss the quiet sounds of the morning stream of people heading to Monhegan.

clean and bright! close to all New Harbor has to offer.
Spacious well appointed home, welcoming neighbors. Walking distance to the beach, the Hardy boat and CE Reilly’s, Good location lots of people watching opportunities. The front yard abutts a busier road just FYI if you intend on bringing the family pooch. Servixe was great!

Idyllic location overlooking New Harbor!!
A beyond charming week in a fully remodeled nearly 100 year old cottage!!!👌👍❤️. Location, location, location. Walk 85 yards to the Hardy boat to Monhegan island,, a 30 minutes walk asking the shore to Chamberlain (or an hour of you stop every few minutes to view the homes or ocean). Towns like New Harbor, Damariscotta, Wiscnaset, Pemaquid lighthouse all way less than an hour and Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park just 3 hours, if you can possibly, NOT stop in the towns, along the way!!!
The cottage was immaculately furnished in a fisherman's motif with midden amenities!! Absolutely loved it!!😍

Beautiful place with a stellar view
New Harbor is a lot like returning to 1978, I was waiting for chief Brody to warn me about a shark. Honestly , you are in the middle of everything and a 5 minute drive to the beach. The house is tastefully decorated with a great kitchen. I would have reservations for any older people trying to do the stairs to the second floor, but that is the price of staying in an old New England house

Great Maine Coast home
Located just above our favorite lobster wharf in New Harbor this charming home was perfect for two couples. We have been coming to New Harbor for decades, and Seaworthy was by far the most comfortable place we've stayed.
