About this lodge
Our family has been coming to Lake Burton since 1943 and our grandmother purchased this property, Chiggerchaw Lodge, in 1949. With over 1000 feet of shoreline we are one of the largest lots on Lake Burton. We have so many happy family memories of swimming, touring the lake, fishing, eating at Laprades, buckdancing at Mountain City, whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River (1/2 hour away) and Nantahala River (45 minutes away) and exploring Clayton, Clarkesville, Helen and the surrounding area. Trophy fly-fishing rivers 20-30 minutes away!
We held our family reunions here in 2011 and 2019. We believe Lake Burton is special and we believe our home and property are special too. We finally tore down the cabin which was built in 1947 and built our log cabin dream house in 2007.
The house is on the main part of Lake Burton with 2.8 secluded acres and as described over 1000 feet of shoreline. From the Great Room with vaulted ceilings with all our glass doors there is a 180 degree view of the lake and Charlie Mountain. We have complete wood interior with four bedrooms with queen beds and 2 shared baths on the main level, and 2 separate bunk rooms with 2 bathrooms on the lower level. The house sleeps a total of 20 including bunk beds and a pull-out bed.

We had a short family gateway, one of my favorite places to go and stay on the lake and have the Mountain View at the same time.

Cabin was in a great location and it was beautiful outside and inside. The upstairs and downstairs were able to accommodate all of the family. The cabin overlooks the lake and it was beautiful.

We took 4 generations to Chiggerchaw for a 3 day weekend and the whole family enjoyed a relaxing weekend. There is plenty of room to spread out for a large crowd. The kitchen is perfect with all the amenities. We had great weather, played lots of games, took a hike at the nearby State Park. We grilled at night and sat on the porch by the fireplace drinking coffee. It was a nice getaway for our family.

Came to stay on nice place for golf weekend. This house and property was the main event. We all just had a blast. The secluded point on Lake Buton in a beautiful home surpassed all of our explanations!

Perfect place on lake! The views are fantastic. The house is perfectly set up for big groups to gather in den/kitchen.

We stayed for the week of the 4th of July and it was an amazing experience. John (property owner) was very helpful prior to and throughout the stay. The memorabilia on the walls and history of lake Burton was fascinating. The pictures of the property and house on vrbo do not do it justice. The place is beautiful and there is nothing like a 4th of July out on the lake. The kids had a blast. Would be great if boat / jet ski rental/use was included in the house rental in the future to avoid marina rentals, which are limited during busy periods. We look forward to staying again in the future!

Our family really enjoyed being able to tube, kayak, paddle board, and swim from the dock.

Such a lovely home situated on one of the most beautiful locations on the lake. We loved the large living area and enormous porch overlooking the lake. Perfect for a family vacation .

Had a great time for a group of 16. Even though the lake was too cold to get in, we thoroughly enjoyed the property and house. The kitchen was well equipped. Everyone slept comfortably. The view was stunning. We ate at Bleu Canoe one night as well and would highly recommend.

Wow!!!! We had an amazing time! It is more beautiful than the pictures online. The views of the lake and mountains are breathtaking.

This is the 2nd year we have met up with friends at this cabin. It couldn’t be more perfect for families with older kids. Enough space to spread out but the large open room ensures the kids don’t stay hidden in the basement. The bedrooms are simple but perfectly outfitted. The property and view is something to see. Could not recommend enough. So thankful to make memories here.

We have stayed here at least three times. We love Lake Burton and the location of the property on the lake is great for skiing, swimming, wake boarding and taking long walks.

We rented this cabin for a family fall adventure. When we checked in the cabin was not cleaned at all- the numbers that were on the check in sheet were wrong. Finally at 9pm a cleaning crew arrived but it was super inconvenient to wait outside with several little kids. I talked to the owner about it and he was agreeable to give us the night for free however he has never refunded me the money and now ignores my emails and phone calls. The cabin itself is nice but I would not recommend based on the owner.

We enjoyed staying at this beautiful cabin!! Quiet & Peaceful... especially since there are no TV's in the home...we enjoyed family time playing card games, checkers, ping pong & especially taking in those views!

We rented this property because of the mountain lake and online pictures. The property is even more beautiful in person! The floorplan was perfect for our group: the tweens loved being in the basement with their own ping pong table and bunk rooms! The main living area is huge and the decks offered impressive and breathtaking 180 degree views! We brought our own kayaks and fishing poles and rented a boat. The kids loved swimming and tubing and the adults loved quiet mornings and evenings sipping coffee and wine on the dock. We daytripped to Cashiers, Helen and Clayton. Note: There are no TV’s but our group had plenty of devices so it wasn’t a big deal. We will always remember this vacation and can’t wait to return!
