About this house rental
Tan Y Fynwent is a seventeenth century town house, set back from St Mary’s Church in the centre of the pretty market town of Dolgellau. It blends the antique (beams, slate floors, listed oak staircase) with the modern (recently refurbished kitchen and laundry/shower room). Local amenities and restaurants are within walking distance of the property. Sandy beaches, mountain hikes, horse riding, biking at Coed Y Brenin, Cadair Idris, Harlech Castle and the glories of the Snowdonia National Park are all short car journeys away.
The accommodation is arranged over four floors in this substantial house.
On the ground floor, there is a recently installed spacious kitchen with oven, gas hobs, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and large pine dining room table and chairs. There is a living room with two sofas, antique pine settle and cwpwrdd deuddarn, as well as wood-burning stove.
On the lower ground floor, there is a laundry/shower room, with freestanding shower unit, toilet, washing machine, clothes horses, iron and ironing board. The pretty back garden has an outside clothes drier.
On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with Victorian brass double bed, covered with a capacious Welsh blanket. There is a second bedroom with twin beds and matching Welsh blankets, suitable for children/young adults. There is a family bathroom, with bath, toilet and free-standing shower unit.
The first floor has two further large bedrooms. One contains a double bed, the second contains a single bed and an abundance of toys. There is also a cot for use of guests (prior arrangement).
There is a beautiful front garden, with grassed lawns, trees and a path to a lattice work wooden portico, which is characteristic of the older properties in Dolgellau.
No pets, unless by prior arrangement. No smoking inside the property. Bed linen and towels are provided.
There is off-road parking in front of the garage of Tan Y Fynwent that is accessible via a narrow lane to the side of the property. There is free parking available at the long stay car park at the Marian (about 4 minutes walk from the property). The voucher for use of the long stay car park must be returned at the end of the stay. There is also free on-street parking to the side of the property on Baker Street and behind the property on Lombard Street.
There is a damage deposit for this property.
The property is only available in Spring, Summer & Autumn for (minimum) weekly bookings, arrival on Saturday/Sunday after 3.00 pm, departure the following Saturday/Sunday before 10.00 am. This is to allow the house to be cleaned thoroughly between guests.

We had an amazing week in North Wales. The house is comfortable and well equipped for all our needs. We have 4 active boys and there is so much to do in the area! Cycling, swimming, beautiful hikes and rock pools. Mach loop was a highlight. Definitely recommended!

This beautiful historic townhouse is a good base for interesting tours of South Wales. The house has large spacious rooms that are lovingly furnished. Especially the large and well equipped kitchen invites you to stay when the weather is not so good. The creaking joists and the church bell give a historical ambience. The two bathrooms are very practical for a family. We enjoyed the stay very much.

As a family including us parents and 5 young adult children and partners we had lots of space to relax in this wonderful home from home. We spent most of our together time around the kitchen table playing games from the well stocked games cupboard. The kitchen had everything we needed and more to cook our meals from scratch. We had space to store our bikes safely outside and were able to grab moments of sunshine in the back garden. All in all a great property and a wonderful stay. Thanks Wyn!

Large house full of character in an ideal setting.
We were very close to the center of Dolgellau (2 minute walk), a picturesque town with good restaurant options, several welcoming pubs (also with good food) and interesting shops.
The house is spacious and has the most well-equipped kitchen both for cooking and for organizing picnics.
The setting of Dolgellau is wonderful for country walks, hikes and driving to many points of interest in mid Wales and up to north Snowdonia.
The host was very accommodating.
We were two couples in our 60s. We had a great week.

A warm welcome to a lovely historical, spacious house, full of wonderful details, being an ideal location for exploring the area. A nice little garden in front of the house and another one in the backyard completed the good impression.
The landlord was very friendly and helpful.
Pubs, restaurants and shops were within walking distance, easy parking was provided.
It would have been really quiet as well if the church bells right opposite the house were not ringing every 15 minutes and additionally every full hour even throughout the whole night! This appeared to be a bit demanding sometimes. But nevertheless we can really recommend this holiday let!

Lovely house. Beautiful countryside. Nice Town. All good
Wyn met us when we arrived and explained everything. Very old impressive 4 bedroomed house with good sized rooms. Nice church directly opposite. Literally 1 minute walk into center of Town with good pubs and restaurants. Surrounding countryside beautiful with brilliant walking, mountains, lakes. Even close to seaside resort (Barmouth). Had a great time. Thoroughly recommend.

Lovely period property
Lovely property, lovely area, really helpful joining instructions
(One thing to consider: as a period property, it can get quite draughty, so bring jumpers!)

Beautiful Property
Wyn’s house is wonderful. The kitchen is gorgeous, I wish I had one like it at home. It is well equipped with a lovely big table perfect for holiday evenings. The bedrooms are enormous. The location could not be better. Right in the middle of town with bakers, bars, cafes and cycle rides outside the very beautiful front door.

Lovely house, great location
This is a lovely house in a great location for exploring Snowdonia. We stayed here as a party of 5 with our adult children. The house is light and spacious and full of character and feels like a family home rather than a holiday rental. There are lots of maps and walking guides and a cupboard full of board games (but no TV, which we appreciated but might not suit everyone). The kitchen is well equipped for family cooking, although if you’re a serious cook bring your own kitchen knives. There’s also a well maintained, enclosed back garden which is a great place to sit and read in the warmth of the early evening sun.

Family getogether in Dolgellau
As a family of 5 adults, including 3 energetic twentysomethings we were delighted with this excellent property, which is totally consistent with the website description.
The house is full of character and is well stocked with local information, games, books and toys. The kitchen is equiped with plenty of crockery and pots and pans should you need them.
We loved the fact that it is centraly located, being less than 5 minutes walk to all the amenities of the town. We made the most of the pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, leisure centre and bike hire (if you wish to cycle the Mawwddach trail and chose to visit cregennen lakes definitely follow the recomendation of the bike shop owner - come home via the lakes NOT outbound!). The Leisure Centre offers weekly membership and we used the gym and sports hall which was easy to book.
The property is comfortable and spacious with plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The parking arrangements are convenient and save a lot of hassle.
Communication with the Property owner was good. During our stay we couldn't work out what the stone steps by the front wall were for, but after the holiday the owner let us know!
We had a lovely week. Lots of walking, cycling, eating, drinking and resting. We would definitely use this property again.
