Lovely old building, bustling atmosphere on a bank holiday. Useful overnight stop on our way south from Scotland to Devon.

Building is lovely and bar staff were nice.
Carpet in our room was wet on one side of the bed? Had to put a towel on it to get into bed! Bathroom could do with re grouting and sealing around Bath. Sink took ages for the water to go down.

Location was great
Very noisy at night

Lovely old characterful property
Due to moist warm weather flies on the ceiling by window

Fabulous 17th century building. Staff service was exceptional (all of them). Seating/dining area very comfortable. Room was large with ensuite. Food was delicious.
The mattress was a bit soft so didn't get a great night's sleep but that is down to personal requirements.

Very enjoyable stay and great location
I paid £105 for B and B. When I arrived the offer was £120 DB and B which was a better deal and advertised at the location
I paid separately for dinner at the location

Friendly staff, comfortable bed and great breakfast.
Tea cups too small. I like a larger cup of tea without having to keep refilling my cup 👍
4.1
beautiful location, friendly staff
room had a few flaws- towel rain dangerous but nothing that would stop me staying again
4.1
lovely location, fab decor and artwork
the most uncomfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on, lots of black mould in bathroom, shower leaking and burnt my arm on heated towel rail as it is way too hot.. dangerously so. Breakfast was odd and quite unwelcoming.

The bed was extremely comfortable
There was no where to sit and enjoy a drink as all the tables were set for customers eating, they had a games room downstairs with no bar, no music, no atmosphere! The dining area was dark, in need of some TLC and cold, we decided to cancel our booking for an evening meal and drove elsewhere. The drink prices seem to change depending on which member of staff was serving! One round of a whiskey, splash of coke (rola cola) and a pint of lager was £10.50, whilst waiting to be seated for dinner we ordered 2 x single whiskeys and coke which were added to our room....on check out we were informed that these were £15, thankfully these were deducted from our bill as the shower in our room had a broken shower screen and you had to try and shower in a corner with the screen wide open which made for a deathtrap of the floor, the TV on the bedroom wall (room 20) was off to the left of the room, very small and constantly glitched whilst trying to watch Freeview TV, so much that you had to turn it off (thank god for the likes of technology and netflix on your phone!) The room was very dusty and the floor in the bathroom filthy!

Very good menu choices, very comfortable beds AND PILLOWS.!, fires blazing, excellent local beer and a proper full English. Also had the Eggs Royale, and even though a supplement, was superb. The best relaxing Country Pub feel we have had in ages, and you're in a Hotel! Perfect for the price. Stayed 3 days and got the fish and chips in as well.... On the day they were excellent. Thanks Chef.
A fresh fruit salad at breakfast with natural yoghurt would have made the whole experience complete.

The barman was honest and doing his best in the chaos.
We arrived around 6pm and collected keys from the barman. Opened the door to our bedroom and nothing had been made up. Bed wasn’t made, nothing looked ready. Took another 20minutes for the barman to make up another bedroom. To be fair to him, he tried his best but clearly wasn’t his area of expertise and there didn’t seem to be any manager or support. Bed sheets didn’t fit well, bathroom had dust all around. I sent an email to James’ Places but still not heard anything back. Really disappointing.
At least we got a free drink in the bar later, but expected a more professional response at least from what I remember as one of the better pub/hotels in the area.

great location, beautiful building, evening staff were very accommodating. Lovely hot breakfast.
Where do I start… room was dirty, rotten windows, cobwebs, the wardrobe didn’t close and smelt very musty. dirty bathroom, toilet, all very old and neglected. The shelf in bathroom was loose, so everything slid off.
the headboards on the beds were dirty, damaged as were the bed bases. the pillows were so old and thin.
Our breakfast was cooked perfectly, but the toast and condiments arrived after we’d ate our breakfast. When I asked for the toast the waitress’s response was rude, aloof and aggressive as she served our food.

In and out beautiful.
Place it self was beautiful and clean but food could be better and some of the staff seemed overwhelmed with service.
4.1
it was very cosy and the staff were very friendly
4.1
The room, the service, the breakfast
4.1
Good to have breakfast freshly cooked. Nice choice too.
Quick service and pleasant staff.
Would have liked fruit with the breakfast.
Would have liked evening meal menu to have changed. Same for 3 days we stayed.
