A few weeks back we were very excited about a mini trip to the Gallia Palace Hotel; an opportunity to get under the Tuscan sun by the seaside and break free of the cold and grey that had been our winter and early spring. The best laid plans often go astray and as the holiday approached it became clear the weather was not going to cooperate. It would be overcast with cool temps.
Disappointment was upon us and on day one without an opportunity to soak up the sun poolside, we were struggling to decide what to do. It was then we met Francesco who runs the bar at the hotel. His kind demeanor and welcoming approach put our minds at ease as he offered a coffee with a cornetto con crema. If it is true the shortest distance between people is a story and stories are the builders of relationships then Francesco is the most valuable member of the team at this beautiful hotel.
Throughout our stay he made us feel special, telling us stories of the hotel, the bar, his experiences and the history of limoncello and the nuances of grappa. He is a knowledgeable sommelier taking pride in his profession while also bringing others along. He introduced us to Antonio who is working with him. It was wonderful to see the mutual respect each of the gentlemen had for each other. Francesco the mentor/teacher caring for the younger Antonio. And Antonio deferring to the expertise of his teacher without losing his own swagger and the individual style he brings to the work. We quickly regarded each of them as new found friends who connected us to the entire resort.
We took a drive through the countryside and visited several of the small picturesque villages and towns. We took advantage of the wonderful spa facility giving us the relaxation we really needed. We had a walk along the seaside and hiked to an elevated point to sit and gaze at the sea. And the food! Wonderful meals at the hotel restaurant as well as fantastic restaurants nearby.

Staff were outstanding, really made our family feel welcome. The beach club is lovely - lots of facilities so easy to spend all day on the beach with little ones. We would definitely go back.
The decor has not been updated since 60s so this will not be to everyone's tastes (although everything is spic and span, all in very good condition - we thought it was quite charming, in particular the beach shuttle).
We were unfortunate in late Aug / early Sep to suffer from terrible mosquitos so needed to wear repellent constantly (even forgetting for 20 minutes could result in 5 or 6 bites). However we understand this is not a year round problem.

It has a manager with a very high arrogance. He dares to interfere with how guests behave. for example, he sent us to our room to feed our baby. incredible. It would be a shame to other customers because it wasn't the hotel's dinner time. never again
