Breakfast was OK but not ready on time for 8am start.
Room was tired, bathroom was not clean. Car park was dreadful (and full).
Whole hotel needs a major overhaul.
3.4
Comfy clean facilities with helpful staff on hand to help with anything
The place was a little dated and could use a bit of a lock of paint and brightening up in parts. It was starting to look quite tired in a lot of places.

bed was comfy
felt very outdated and dirty. Was very expensive

Breakfast was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Our room was on the 2nd floor and there was no lift so had to carry suitcase up two floors. The room was hot and one of the bedside light did not work.

Goood location for restaurants etc. Car park on site. Reception and bar area very nice, friendly staff.
It’s looking very tired, we had a room at the back, in desperate need of pulling out of the 1970’s !!. Paper peeling of the walls in places and ancient sliding windows. But it was clean as it could be.

Nothing
Pubic hair on the bathroom floor. Hairs in the bed. Dirty carpet

The location with lots of parking behind the hotel is perfect for walking to explore Banbury. Our high ceiling bedroom with large beams was very nice. The bathroom was very good with a good shower. The breakfast was very good with continental and full English on offer. We were shown a secret panel in a room that had a staircase which let upstairs-as this is a listed building the inside cannot be changed. The building is like stepping back in time.

Guy on reception was great, friendly, helpful. Room was clean and comfortable.
No remote for TV (did manage to get one from reception). No cups/mugs in the room for hot drinks. Toilet seat was leaning against the wall, managed to drop it back on but certainly needs attention. Not enough hangers in the wardrobe. BReakfast seemed quite expensive at £15.50 hence not having it.

The location was fantastic, right in the middle, great pub about the hotel, really cheap but good food!
Big Tesco and many more shops nearby.
The walking shower was okay, the drain in the shower was blocked and caused the water to over spill. The water was freezing cold too, that was the only fault, we reported it to the reception and the woman was so kind and offered us complimentary drinks.

A traditional lovely old country hotel with lots of history we love this place stayed many times
So sorry to hear that we are unable to stay again due to it changing for migrants taken over also that the staff didn't get notice and no pay given in November and redundancy pay not happy for them or us

Great location.
Room, breakfast & staff all pretty average.
Completely self-service breakfast on hot plates.
Room was ok, could have benefitted from a good spring clean.

friendly staff, had a good selection of gluten free breakfast (excluding bread)
isolation between rooms could be better, dust in windows, need for cleaning & maintenance there

Staff and breakfast
Although the room and bed linen were clean, I found the duvet and pillows had a strong smell of B.O.
I appreciate that other people use the room, I don’t have to smell them.

Very disappointed with the breakfast. The buffet trays were full of food but all of it cold. Some hot sausages were added to the cold ones but couldn't tell which was which. Didn't eat it. Had toast. What a terrible waste of food!!
The breakfast was very disappointing. There was no bottled water in the room, as advertised. No towel to dry hair. No useful info in the room and no phone to contact Reception which we found unusual.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, right in the heart of town. The gardens at the rear of the old building are pristine and perfect for a relax after a long day. The old building is beautiful and in excellent condition with its interesting nooks and crannies to explore. I can't comment on the new improved restaurant as we ate at the Italian restaurant nearby.
The newer part of the building is in desperate need of an update. Our room was compact which is fine for a 1 night stopover but I would be very disappointed to stay there any longer. The bathroom is poorly set out with the door opening up on to the toilet. It literally skims the toilet by 5mm. There was a hygiene bag dispenser 3/4 of the way up the wall behind the toilet, way out of reach of whoever is on the toilet. Not great. There was a mouldy, what looked like blocked off air vent right above the sink. The kettle looked like it had been there since the day the hotel was built judging by the amount of grime and lime scale on the outside. The cups were still dirty from the previous guests. There is no a/c in this room however a powerful desk top fan is supplied which was enough to keep the air moving. I've stayed in Mercure properties all over Europe and this is definitely the worst. I will choose 1 of of the 2 premier Inns available next visit. Free car parking at the rear of the property is a bonus but I wouldn't want to walk around there in there in the dark instead pay for 1 of the many bays at the front.

Breakfast was lovely and it was great staying in a 17th century building that had been updated

beautiful hotel , lovely food
my room was in the new bit at the back, no lift that I could find or guided too so dragged my case up the stairs.
the room was very hot, the staff kindly gave me a fan as the one in the room did not work. the weather can’t be helped tho
the tv struggled to find signal

Excellent facilities in room. Shower really clean & worked properly. Plenty of storage space.
Purely personal: our room was on 2nd floor up 3 steep flights of steps & I'm nearly 87, so struggle a bit! I don't think the hotel was exceptionally busy, so I'm sure there must have been rooms available on lower floors. My fault, really: I should have asked about room location in advance & asked for a room on ground or 1st floor.

Inside was was shabby.

TV did not work as connected to internet and kept going off and on
