A beautiful old castle with tastefully decorated rooms
The bathroom was spectacular!
Late check in with no flexibility

Loved the historical state of the building . It was very well preserved and presented. Location fabulous. Walks around great. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nothing really
4.3
Unique location in a beautiful castle. The room was large and the breakfast delicious. The beer garden just outside is also fun. Very kind and helpful staff
The Wi-Fi could be a little better and easier to use

location, property, activities
staff is rude. lack of staff. no communication. We had breakfast for dinner because the chef didn’t want to serve us the menu. no flexible solutions, staff likes to go into discussions

Me and my son made a tour around Fränkische Alp to look at castles and other historical landmarks. We also stayed in some of the castles. We were focusing especially on castles with a more "medieval" appearance rather than later palaces. Burg Rabenstein is really a dream castle if one likes these things. It has very spectacular looks on top of a cliff. It has amazing interiors that make you feel like moved in time. In addition to this there is also possible to eat quite high-end food for a reasonable price level in the castle restaurant. And the list of wine and spirits was very complete, and sitting there sipping on a good whiskey in a leather chair after the dinner was very relaxing. My teenage son was by then spending the time in the huge bathtub of our room. Altogether it really felt as we were some royalty in the past. The breakfast was also great, and the location is perfect for hiking in the surroundings. Only a few hundred meters away is an amazing cave with beautiful rock formations and remains of cave bears.
There is nothing to complain about, really. As said, it is a fabulous place. The parking is a couple of hundred meters away, but it is understandable as parked cars would really destroy the view of the castle. One can drive closer to leave and pick up luggage, so not really a problem. But, OK, one thing I would like to complain about is that several of the castles we visited on this trip, this one included, are becoming overgrown by thick vegetation, from high grass to trees. This obscures the views both to and from the castles, as well as does not give an impression of the sites being well kept.

Nice, large room with large bathroom.
The castle has very little "curb appeal" as the entrance is a door across a stone walkway. The picturesque photos in the listing are from a different angle (the backside of the castle), which is largely inaccessible by foot, so don't expect a good photo opp.
The front desk person didn't explain to us how the wi-fi works when we checked in. She gave us a little folded paper with a welcome message, but it was all in German, and she didn't mention that the wi-fi login instructions were printed inside. Unlike most hotels, you have to open a browser window and type in an IP address. Then you had to enter a specific code (one per device) that was printed on the folded paper.
Also, she didn't mention that there was an elevator, so we carried our luggage up several flights of stairs when we checked in.
Most of the staff is off on Mondays, so the restaurant is closed. The front desk person recommended a restaurant in a town a few km away, but they had a very limited menu.

This was the highlight of our trip. It was fabulous!!
We had to get two rooms, since there were 4 of us. Would have been nice to get 4 in one room to save money.

Great location, wonderful staff
Dinner was excellent
Atmosphere was very good
Parking was a little clumsy, however I expect that in a castle high over a valley

Beautiful location, set on a high vantage point. Our room was large and well equipped. The breakfast was more than adequate with options of fruit, cereal cheese and meat with also offer of cooked as well. There are numerous walks around the castle, which were extremely interesting. .views, caves etc. Also right next to the castle is a Falconry centre also a large cave that does guided tours every hour or so.
Not being able to stay for longer!!

Location is amazing, peaceful. atmospheric and authentic castle living. Evening meal excellent. Views to die for.
OK it’s a castle but the wifi really should be better.
Also, all the information we found about our accommodation was in German. It would really help to have another language (the restaurant evening menu was thoughtfully provided to us in English, so it should be possible).
4.3
Breakfast was delicious, and service was lovely!
Board games (chess, checkers, backgammon) available in the social spaces would have provided nice entertainment in the evenings after dinner.
4.3
The location and surrounding is excellent and staying in such a historic castle like this is a great experience. The staff at reception is very good.
The Beergarden inside the premise closes at 18.00hrs. The restaurant inside the castle requires prior booking. And nearest villages are 4 to 6km away. So plan well your evening dinner in advance. There are limited or no options if you do not plan.

Very nice location!
The bathroom is really outdated and there was a lot of dust in the room.

It’s a CASTLE! The decor is what one wants for a stay in a castle and the room was comfy. Exploring on our own was fun
It’s remote and difficult to get to without a car

Like staying in a medieval fairytale. Right on top of a hill surrounded by an ancient forest. The staff were also very helpful. The restaurant was closed on a Monday but we could drink beer on a secret terrace in the oldest part of the castle from the 13th century. Breakfast was extremely good with everything you could ask for.
I liked everything, no complaints. Only thing that it's probably difficult to get to without a car.

the building, the Charme and the location are fantastic
4.3
The location is amazing, you are in the middle of a nature park. Also the castle has a very authentic feel to it. Staff at the reception was mostly very nice and helpful.
There was a problem with hot water and internet that spoiled our experience. There was no hot water in the morning and otherwise it ran out midway thorugh taking a bath. WLAN didnt reach our (superior) room... The staff is overwhelmed but trying their best, glad they are still there despite the pandemic. There also was no reading lamp near the bed and the bedlight was too dim to read. The falconry was still closed on 20th March :( The restaurant is extremely overpriced, has low variaty of beer - but great variety of spirits (for a very high price)

I like the big room of space and decorations and lots of windows to open

Thank you for this amazing experience - not only did we dine amazingly well, there was a fire show outside & the atmosphere is impressive. The staff is great & the location beautiful - we enjoyed every minute!

The food in the restaurant was excellent

Beautiful location.
The hotel supposed to be pet-friendly. They charge 20 Euro per day for pet stay, which is not the cheapest rate. At the same time we felt that our small dog was not really welcomed. Also I would suggest to the management to put some sofa or chair in the reception area. Check-in took about 20 minutes (checking Covid passports, usuall stuff with documents and a credit card + we were asked to make a detailed selection from breakfast menu for the next day. All that time we were to stand with our bags in front of the reception window. A bit awkward arrangement.

Its a medieval Castle! Do expect thick walls large vaults excellent views !
Room could be refurbished

The place is really beautiful, they kept the old decoration, everything is well maintained, the room was really spacious and super comfortable, the staff really kind. It was the perfect place for our romantic weekend!
Moreover, the food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious, as well as the huge breakfast we had.
I was just chocked to see someone from the falconry tearing off some feathers from a poor eagle...
