The location within the tea plantations is perfect with a breathtaking view down to the plains. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food is great. Rooms are spacious and very clean with a wonderful view from the bed. The owners organise a Tuk-Tuk for a whole day for a reasonable price. We started our trip to Horton Plains very early (5:45) and were provided with breakfast boxes. The owner takes ecology protection seriously, no plastic bottles or plastic bags are being provided.

A very friendly family home. The facilities were quite good for the price we paid. The food was delicious and homemade. Nice views from the rooms.

We are a Belgian family (father and 2 adult children) travelling through Sri Lanka in summer 2023.
Looking for a hotel at walking distance from the Horton Plains National Park we ended up in the Hill Safari Tea Estate Hotel. At the Ohiya train station (approx. 5 km from the hotel) we were picked up by the owner, Mr Perera, who was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the site.
The hotel, located in a tea plantation, has a fantastic view on the Sri Lankan lowlands (comparable to that at World’s End). Just note that the hotel is quite remotely located and therefore food is taken on site (food is excellent!). We organized a trip to the Horton Plains, going (early morning) by tuktuk and returning by foot (watch out for sunburn on the way back!).
We can only be (very) positive about the hotel, the owners, and the staff.

The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, the gardens and views were lovely. It is quite remote but close to Horton Plains.
It was extremely windy while we were there (no fault of the owners of course) and the nights were very noisy. It seems this is the windy season June - August.

most romantic place during our trip! if you have the time and courage DO NOT MISS this place. you will understand in the morning. little bit difficult to get there but not impossible. we got there by car, durign a nasty rain, so the car did not make the last 750 meters, we had to walk, getting soaked. in the morning we went down to ohiya on foot,it was a nice walk.
nothing. perfect.

Beautiful and calm place.
The road to get there is a bit tough, however you get total peace in exchange.

This is a small but very friendly tea plantation lodge, with a very helpful manager and staff, and a superb view over the hills near Horton Plains. There was a comfy sitting / dining room, and the bedroom was roomy with good warm beds, but rather inadequate electrics. Breakfast was OK, but dinner was excellent (there is no-where else to go to eat in the area) with second helpings and lovely desserts. Very close to Horton Plains and a Tuk Tuk was easy to arrange to take me to the Park, as well as to and from Ohiya Station. Lots of pleasant walks nearby through the woods and tea plantations in the area. Freely available filtered water to drink.
Maybe some alternative drinks - soft drinks or beer to buy would have been nice. A bedside light that worked, and a socket in the room to charge devices. There was a charging place in the sitting room.

It’s a secluded place with breathtaking views over the tea estates. The room’s clean and the staff were very friendly and pleasant. It’s one of the best places to stay if you’re planning to explore Horton Plains next day early in the morning (before the clouds appear)
Nothing major.

a beautiful location and wonderful family to stay with. The home cook meal was great, try Sri Lanka cuisine.
My room was not very private. it was on the ground floor with glass across the entire front. Had to keep the curtains closed the whole time, otherwise everybody can see the whole room. Also the road down is very long and steep which i didn’t know about, i was on a bicycle so had to walk a long time.

We loved the quiet environment around the villa and the tea plantations surrounding it.
The hosts were very welcoming too. In nighttime we had the most delicious curry of the whole of our stay in Sri Lanka.
I wanted to take a shower early morning, but the water didn’t get hot. (We didn’t know how to organise that).

Staff were incredible, so friendly. Beautiful Sri Lankan food cooked for us each morning and evening. The views were amazing, definitely recommend watching the sunrise from bed!
The staff were great with recommendations for hikes in the area too. Thanks guys!
The road down from the station is pretty bad so it makes for a very bumpy ride! This is obviously not the hotels fault - just be prepared to be thrown about a bit :)

Very clean and comfortable room with a great view. Had a very nice dinner and the staff was nice enough to offer a breakfast package the next day when I had to get up early to do the World's End walk. They also helped arrange transportation. Very peaceful place.

We loved the location and the possibilities to see Sri Lanka village and tea hill life. The hosts were incredibly helpful, met our every wish and provided delicious SL food. We loved our 3 night stay in the upstairs room with a spectacular view and balcony. Watching the mist come in and the sunset made up for the daily afternoon rain. If you are looking for a lush, green bit of solitude Hill Safari can be your place. Every morning we were woken by the beautiful music/chants from the village temple. We did not go to Horton Plains or Worlds End, there is plenty of adventure right at the doorstep. Thank you for making our stay memorable.
Remember some warm clothes. The rain can make it feel quite chilly in the room. We travel with good ear plugs which can come in handy.

Stunning! the food, the view, their hospitality. It’s been the best place in the mountains for us. Lots of people go there to hike in Horton Plains but the host was right: the view from their terrace is even better. Regretting spending only one night on the site, we should have booked at least two:( Peaceful and quiet, but bear in mind that you might need warm clothes. Very good for hikes, and very cozy for doing nothing and enjoying nature.

The place is exquisite. Owners, a married couple, are very nice and helpful. They make the place very homely. Rooms were small but they weren't cramped. Clean.
Food is good. We had local cuisine (string hoppers, rice and curries, fried rice and curries) and they were all tasty. The owners packed us some sandwiches when we informed them that we were to leave for Horton Plains the next day early morning. That's another good thing about this place. Horton Plains is only 10km away.
The last part of the road to this lodge is a bit rough.
