Enough space for my two sisters and I. Value for money.
The room was not hot. The heating system was not make sure.

Located in a nice and safe modern township that contains a lot of street art and scene bars and cafes. We can recommend the east city cycle tour.
Shower was without warm and sometimes without any water (evening and morning again).
Stairs in our loft were very narrow and steep.

Tolle Einrichtung des Hostels. Super freundliches Personal. Möglichkeit zum Lagern von Gepäck.
Extrem hellhörige Zimmer. Party ohne Ende in der Nacht, Schlafen war erst ab 3 Uhr möglich. Nicht wirklich sauberes Zimmer.

The shower is great. The bathrooms are clean. The beds are comfortable and warm.
There isn't a good generator for the rolling blackouts in Johannesburg so for hours on end work was difficult to get done, especially because the wifi (that was technically online) does not have the bandwith to support the amount of guests the place has. It's freezing in the mornings and evenings, there's no heating except the makeshift stove in the living room. The furniture in the living room is not designed to be sat in.

Really cool hostel in the middle of Maboneng. Awesome bar inside the hostel with sunday jazz nights. Very good price. Staff was super friendly.
If you are a light sleeper, I feel like this is not the place for you. Partying goes on until late at night and you can hear it all from the bedrooms. The streets around the hostel are a bit dodgy, and though we walked around a bit at night and didn’t feel unsafe, it wasn’t exactly safe either.

The staff are mostly very nice, the space is decorated nicely with murals on the walls and it's relatively clean. The kitchen is adequately equipped although they only have one plate which can go in the microwave as the others are metal and the 6 stovetop burners are electric so when load shedding happens for 6-9 hours a day, you can't cook or heat food up. There are good restaurants nearby within walking distance. They offer several tours which are affordable and the guides are great.
If you are a light sleeper or a digital nomad, it may not be for you. The only community space to sit/work is a bar which is open to the public and plays loud music until 11-12 every night AND there's another bar/club on the corner which plays loud music where you can practically feel the bass thumping until 2-3:30am 7 days a week. Since the hostel is open to the public via the bar & they don't issue bracelets or anything to identify guests/residents, anyone can wander through the place and knock on your door which is a bit unsettling. The wifi signal is weak throughout the hostel and when load shedding happens for hours at a time there is No wifi signal in the rooms.

It is in a really bad area of the town. I didn't feel safe even though staff told me it's safe to walk around. But just weird vibes in general in the hostel and around it

I liked the neighborhood, although it can be unsafe during the evenings and it’s not recommended to walk by yourself.
I had a very bad experience since I paid for shared female dorm and they ended up putting me in a mixed dorm. Since I didn’t know the room was mixed, I got very scared during the evening when men entered. As a woman traveling alone I tend to choose female dorms that makes me feel safer.
They changed my room and put me in a dorm with 10 beds instead of the 6-bed I paid for.
The noise during the evenings is insane and I could barely sleep until 3am when the music stoped.

good hostel vibes, lots of activities offered and great to meet people, friendly staff
sketchy neighborhood, you can hear club music so you can’t sleep well, terrible Wi-Fi, the showers are not in the room so you have to walk to there and the showers are shared

On weekends it can get quite loud at night.

Very social and local atmosphere. If you wanna habg wuth some hip africans then this is your place. Not many rich white guys around which is a nice change. Very cool. The street this place is on is pretty safe.. but dont go thinking this is a small beach town on western cape. Still not actually safe. I think this is the best place to stay if you want to see the real joburg.
The security of the hostel seemed a bit casual. Many locals walking through the pub/hangout area, wouldnt be much to walk up the stairs. There is a keypad on the room, however. Thats the only security apart from the bar man watching out. Staff were pretty cool, but a bit too "cool" if you know what i mean. More interested in fist bumping their hip ganja smoking friends than connecting or advising guests..
