I arrived here at the end of a 3-week trip through Albania and North Macedonia. I'm really glad to have rounded off my journey at Etno House Shancheva. It was really nice to come here as a solo traveller, and occupy a room actually intended for lone backpackers. I was the only guest, but the family were super-friendly and I was able to talk, eat and drink with them. Soulful times. I really loved Kratovo and staying here was a big part of why I enjoyed the place so much. It felt personal. l loved the spoonful of honey each morning! Also loved the crazy kittens, and all the insight into archaeology, food, Yugoslavia and local history. I felt like I was in very good company here. Thanks for the memories.
This is an old house with plenty of character. Rustic. This guesthouse might not suit everyone, but for me it was just perfect.

The owner's and family's hospitality was extraordinary. The small details in attending with us in the main quarter and offering local bites of food was greatly appreciated after a long trip. The walking tour through Kratovo explaining it's history was another highlight.
Driving up and parking may be a small issue for some. Please call the owner before hand, as they come to the main road to guide you. They also assisted with parking the car at their property. All in all they made the a hard task simplified!

Great old traditional house (300 years), great welcoming hosts. Clean new shared bathroom. Located in the center but very calm place. Have a parking place
Just be aware, that it might be difficult to drive next to the house with bigger car -it is better to leave the car at lower public parking, 100-200 meters from the house

A fabulous experience. We took up the host’s offer of an excellent tour of Kratovo - we definitely recommend. He is very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area.

Stevce and Jakim provided wonderful hospitality in this interesting old house. The location is perfect, the decor is museum-like with old furniture and accessories. Stevce demonstrated his famous salt-making, and I took advantage of Jakim's walking tour of Kratovo. The room was cozy and warm, and the cups of tea, cfruit, and nuts were a nice treat. Jakim is always happy to join guests for a drink, recommend restaurants, and share his knowledge about the region.
I was a little disappointed that no meals were provided, though that was clear from the booking details, and from what Jakim said it hasn't really been sustainable to serve breakfast regularly. The bathroom is a little rustic, and you share it for the family, but this is understandable in such an old property.

The owners of Etno house are very welcoming. Greeted us with fruits, drinks before we checked in. Both are very hard working people. The son who deals mostly with the guest since speaks english gave an excellent tour of town of Kratovo all included in the cost of accommodation. They are currently renovating to include bathrooms in each room.
Kratovo is a beautiful less known out of the way town, would highly recommend visiting this town and staying here.
Shared bathroom, but renovations being done to have private bathrooms.

The house is fascinating, like a living museum of life in rural Macedonia. The family who run it are very friendly and totally dedicated to their work in Kratovo.
Nothing. For the price and the ethos of the accommodation, you cannot expect high levels of luxury.

The place (Kratovo) was great, rich and filled with history, small and very interesting, as was the stay at the 300 year old Shancheva House. The hosts were very nice and welcoming and helped me with my troubles of doing laundry. I wholeheartedly recommend!

Staying in Shancheva is a must if you are staying in Kratovo. Keeping in mind that this is an old historic house, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
But what definitely makes it the best place I stayed in Macedonia is the very friendly, generous and knowledgeable family it runs it. thanks to them I could really make the most of the living museum that is Kratovo. Thank you so much

The property is a 300 years old house in the historical center of Kratovo. It is very well preserved and very beautiful. Stevce and his family are very hospitable hosts: they gave us the traditional Macedonian welcome and we got to try Kratovo's unique spice mix. They also offered us a walking tour of the city (at a small extra cost) through which we learned about Kratovo's fascinating history. Great stay!

Amazing hosts! So hospitality, so friendly.
You definitely need to stay in this place if you want to feel how people lived 100 years ago.
This place like a museum.
Very cold in the room. And very tightly for a parking.

A rare opportunity to enjoy a homestay with slow cooking and meet a really interesting family. Loads of history.
Breakfast very good. Loved their home grown tomatoes and wine too

Staying at Stevce's house is a rather private experience, it's like being a guest in someone's home. He's also the one making a personalised breakfast for you every morning and if you can't find something on the table, he'll immediately pop out to get it for you. His son will act as your private guide around town, if you so wish. Highly recommended!

Firstly, the welcome was amazing! We were seated and while the formalities were being handled, we received an appetizer of local dishes cooked for a religious occasion, raki, water and juice. We got some info from the hosts about the region. The rooms are charming, even if basic. Everything was clean for us. The breakfast is a treat, fantastic homemade food like bread dough donuts, ajvar, eggs and peppers, cheese, cake etc. . The host had the breakfast with us, encouraging us. The price is very good.
A bit difficult to find, narrow streets, but part of the charm. The shared bathroom could be a disadvantage, but there are only 3 rooms, it went fine. House is old, it has its sounds when walking or closing doors.

This 300-year-old house has been converted in a rustic guesthouse with three sleeping rooms. The house is especially interesting because it's not been "modernized" (apart from the bathroom), so staying here feels like going a while back in time. Antique and traditional items are on display in the rooms and in the common areas, and in the basement there's even an etno-museum where lots of old household items are on display. Winters can be cold here but the wood stove in the living room makes it pleasantly warm and each sleeping room has a powerful electric heater. Every day, a different breakfast is served and it is possible to eat it together with the owner and his family. The breakfast is wholly home-made, organic, excellent and abundant. Guided tours, trips to nearby sightseeings, degustations, and practical lessons about how to produce spices can be arranged. The owners are extremely helpful and always more than happy to answer questions about the town and its history and culture, the old lifestyle, the making of local products, the food that they serve, what to see in the town, and much more. They also run an etno-shop which is also a tourist info center. The WiFi is very good. There's no traffic in the small and steep alleys around the house, so it's a very quiet location.
