The outside of the ryokan is worn by the ocean breeze, so when we arrived and saw the exterior, we were prepared to be disappointed. The inside of the ryokan, however, looks nothing like the exterior, and we were very pleased with our gorgeous room and open air bath. The rooms was spacious, and clean, and our toddler enjoyed running around on the tatami without us having to worry about him making too much noise.
The staff were always very courteous and helpful. Our toddler has recently developed a "big" personality and sitting down for a multi-course meal with him is a challenge. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and to accommodate our needs, even going so far to send up the final course and dessert to our room when I had to leave early with him.
The food and drink our excellent, particularly the squid sashimi, tai, and local sake. We felt very well looked after.
The nearby pool and beach are also excellent for visitors with children.
When we were leaving, a member of the staff even drove us to the station to avoid the heat!

Excellent location right in front of the beach, we could privatise the outdoor bath on the roof to watch sunset. The breakfast was gigantic and delicious
I got locked out when I went to the convenience store at 11pm, had to call my wife who stayed inside to get me in, so be careful if you're alone

The breakfasts were amazing and very delicious. The beach was nice to swim in and there was hardly ever anyone there. The pool was big and usually empty. The onsen on the balcony was awesome and the room was beautiful. Fantastic for a relaxing beach time.
The hotel is a bit isolated and there aren't that many places close by to go for dinner unless you go on the train a few stops to Karatsu or walk a long while.

I had planned to stay at this hotel for 2 days and ended up staying for 5 because it was everything I could ask for. Incredible sunset view from the plate glass window with a bath tub off my balcony. The sound of birds and the waves made for great relaxation and sleeping. The staff (especially Mari who speaks good English) helped me get an additional pad as the bed was too hard for me. Then the staff spoiled me with a Western breakfast to my liking. They catered to my needs and I showed my appreciation by staying longer. They even let me use the excellent bikes for free and everyday I pedaled into a different part of the town to see the sights and have lunch. Even near the hotel, there are quite a few open restaurants and small bakeries. The beach front is fun to explore and the world-class pine forest was restful and provided shade for long walks and bikes. Even if I ever come back to Karatsu, this will be my first stop. Nice onsen with view of the ocean. Tasteful but too fussy. Highly recommended.

The room is clean and the hotel is close to the beach. The scene from the room is nice
The bath room is outdoor which is really cold in winter (unfortunately, we were there in January).
