Clean, comfortable very quiet, natural surroundings. Well provisioned.
Heating aircon good. Wood burning stove would be great in winter.
Kids bunk bedroom small and really cute, primary school kids within have a ball there.
Fresh eggs from the chickens outside the window a nice touch.
Wifi super slow, need a repeater from the main access point.
No sunny outdoor area, faced south.

Located in bush surroundings and the pool was lovely. A quaint little cottage.

Eggs were provided by the friendly chickens (which you can see from the kitchen window) and there was milk in the fridge on arrival.
Bathroom was huge with a bath tub and walk-in shower. Good quality toiletries provided. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower.
Kitchen was well-stocked with everything I needed.
Comfortable bed and a ceiling fan in the bedroom which was essential over a few hot nights. Air conditioning was also very efficient in the kitchen/living room.
Well-lit access path was helpful when coming back late in the evening.
You really feel like you're surrounded by nature with the sounds of crickets, frogs and birds. Windows are all screened, so you can open them up and let the air flow when cool enough.
Butterworth Street is unsealed, which means taking it slowly in a rental car, but otherwise not an issue at all.

Lovely, quiet cabin at the back of main residence. This was just the country get away we were looking for. Waking up every morning to fresh air, trees and birds was just beautiful.
The cabin had everything we needed, cooktop (no oven), very decent sized fridge, crockery, cutlery, towels (and pool towels).
We loved the pool and having a chat to the chooks!
Shirley was a great host!

A great cosy little place not far from town. Perfect for a little getaway. The bed was very comfortable. Loved that I could have fresh eggs from the chickens on the property. The owner was very kind and helpful.

I'd say; "So much serenity!" but that line's already been taken 🙃
Very peaceful and private surroundings.
Communication was excellent and we we left completely satisfied.
Highly recommended if it's peace n quiet you're after.

Lovely private cottage, and an easy walk down the hill to the fabulous Railway Hotel. The weather was too hot to enjoy the delux bath, so we’ll be back in Winter. Wonderful to be met by happy chickens on arrival.

I loved the bush views from the cottage, despite being close to town. The bathroom is large and feels luxurious and the pool was great to cool down in on a hot day.
The furniture and styling of the cottage didn’t really match the luxury feel of the bathroom.

Butterworth Cottage perched amongst natural bush surroundings with an abundance of birdlife, in peaceful setting. Intended to do more touristy sight seeing, but instead enjoyed the vista from veranda and setup table and chairs outside for beer-o-clock, and watched the sunset over the Castlemaine district from elevated position. Cottage immaculately clean. Our tired old backs really appreciated the wonderful comfortable bed and quality linen. Kitchen had everything we needed and more, loved the Jamie Oliver crockery set. Rainfall shower in ultra-lux bathroom was blissful. Pool was crystal clear and surprisingly warm after a cool night. Owners dwelling situated so you still have privacy. Wished we could have stayed longer. Left my reading classes behind, and Shirley called me immediately to let me know.

The new-build cottage was not only perfectly in keeping with its bush country setting in the pioneer-goldfields district, but was constructed throughout with high-quality materials and design elements that added to the appeal and comfort, like the glass-louvered windows that were excellent for air-flow, especially in the cooler morning and evening, sending scattered rainbows all over the room, the large glass doors, the garden-viewing window above the spacious bath, and the most welcome air-conditioner. Set at the back of the main property apart from the house, the cottage was extremely quiet and private, with only the cluck of chickens, birdsong, and occasional train horns to be heard.
Provision of freshly laid eggs, milk and pantry essentials was most appreciated.
The property was too far out of town to walk, especially during the heatwave experienced at that time, but the peace and quiet of the location was worth the need to get the car out each time.
The second bedroom is extremely small, and although the bunk beds have been well-configured against two of the walls, it would be quite claustrophic to be in there with the door shut. There is a narrow-louvered window set high in one wall, which provided essential ventilation, and with the door kept open worked quite well in the hot January weather. In the winter I imagine the door could also be kept open, as there is a beautiful cast-iron wood-stove in the lounge-room.

we loved absolutely everything about the cottage, most particularly the beautiful bushy setting and extra care and touches, like the fresh eggs and Christmas tree. We had a wonderful stay

Well maintained and clean; pool was fantastic in the heat; kitchen had essentials often missing in SC accommodation; super comfy bed; good shower pressure; so quiet.
Not a criticism but only good for young kids; my average sized 11 y/o just fit in the bed.

We loved the chickens, just out the kitchette window. Lovely! Water was HOT! Heater worked well during our winter visit. Loved the front verandah to sit and sip a cuppa on in the afternoon. Thank you.

Everything superb. Can't wait to go back soon. Great accom, great host, great area. In a very quiet part of Castlemaine.
No complaints at all. Wish our stay was longer.

Very tidy and warm fire was really welcome. Fresh eggs and milk was much appreciated. Close to the railway hotel where food was excellent. Close enough to town to walk in and leave the car behind.

All facilities up to the mark. Comfortably furnished, warm bed (slept like a top), quiet, great shower - and the bonus - five friendly chooks for neighbours. Although it was cold outside we could choose between a reverse-cycle AC or a very efficient slow combustion heater. Excellent base for exploring Castlemaine's attractions.
The access might not suit people who are not too mobile or disabled.
