About this apartment rental
Garden Oaks Fine Accommodation designer John O’Brien has created a remarkable light-filled ambiance with the cozy feel of radiant underfloor heated tiles in this completely self-contained, non-smoking suite.
Oaklands 8 is a no-step entrance, fully equipped, self-catered home available for 30+ nights (90+ nights from May 2024). There is a double bed for two, plus a pull out single in the living room.
Spacious yet cosy, this non-smoking one bedroom suite is ideal for short stays, locum and term assignments or that quiet seclusion so important for writing, respite, or as a base for your adventures. We are convenient to the Royal Jubilee Hospital and universities. Your friendly hosts are easily available for local insights. Please note: there is no landline. Free wifi may be used for net-enabled devices.
Enter the foyer and turn right into the living room, dining area and stone-countered kitchen. The glass & tile shower is a high-end complement to the Bosch washer/dryer cabinet. Your bedroom is across the foyer next to a walk-in closet area providing ample storage. There is a comfortable queen-sized bed and bookshelves with many interesting titles. Mid-century eclectic, Kai Kristiansen chairs & more!
Your suite enjoys an east facing patio for garden and street views. Quiet, yet full of life with passersby open to a cheery hello, the Oaklands Rise is a neighborhood of character homes under a canopy of Gary Oak trees set high on a ridge overlooking the city. Stroll along upper Kings Road, backbone of the Oaklands RIse Woonerf. There’s a reason why we’re a city of walkers! Haultain Corners, Fernwood Village and Quadra Street Village are within 10 minutes of Oaklands Rise.
Conveniently located for easy access to the full range of Victoria’s amenities, your suite is within 5 minutes to public transportation and is an easy drive to internationally famous Butchart’s Gardens, the unique Abkhazi Gardens, and special (free!) finds such as the Japanese Gardens at Hatley Castle and the grounds at Government House, residence of the Queen’s representative in British Columbia. Ask your hosts about their own private garden oasis!
Natural settings to visit include Swan Lake Eco Conservation Site and Uplands Park, two spots that are not often discovered by visitors to Victoria. Closer to home, our own hidden gardens are behind a rustic gate...ask your hosts about a tour.
Is golf your game? Our Oaklands suite is the perfect entry point to the Vancouver Island “Golf Trail”. With 7 courses in the city to explore, and even a putting green in beautiful Beacon Hill Park in the city center, it’s hard to pull away for the many courses “up island”.
Enjoy theatre? One of Victoria most interesting venues is in walking distance in nearby Fernwood Village. Every seat in the acclaimed Belfry Theatre, offering stage and studio productions, feels close to the action in this great space. Other options include the Blue Bridge Theatre, the McPherson and Royal Theatres, and the Alix Goulden Hall where the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Early Music Society and independent artists bring local and international artists to the Stage.
Dining out? You’ll need return visits to try all of Victoria’s extraordinary range of restaurants. As Canada’s warmest city with temperate weather year round, people flock here from around the world. That makes for a vibrant restaurant scene with an impressive array of foods.
As of May 2024, government regulations require stays of 90+ days (91+ for a lesser tax regime). We regret that we cannot accept shorter stays from that date forward.
Departing guests who leave the suite as close to the condition provided as possible get 5 stars for "cleaning" in the post-stay reviews. The online system means that a "not very clean" rating will affect your overall rating on the website/platform.
Please focus on general cleaning: vacuuming, cleaning kitchen & bathroom, organizing recycling (& taking that out if your departure is on a recycle day).
We'll strip beds & do laundry. Let us know of any issues that require attention before next arrivals. If unsure about HOW to clean something, please don't hesitate to ask—we'll help.
Thx!

This was the perfect place for us to stay while we spent most of our days with our new baby grandson. A nice 20 minute walk through this quiet residential neighborhood brought us to their apartment, and coming home to this uncluttered pretty space was truly a gift. I even walked to downtown Victoria to the movie theater one day. No need for a car here. We'd love to come back.

This spot was an ideal location for me. The location was in a more established area of Victoria. It had a fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, microwave in the rental unit. I had chosen to use the Victoria transit as my main mode of transportation. It
was handy to access the transit connections. The suite was spotless when I checked in. If I had any questions, my host responded promptly by text or in person if needed. I would highly recommend it to my family, friends & coworkers to stay at. I intend to use it again when I do a long stay holiday in Victoria in future.

I enjoyed the quiet neighbourhood and nice yards surrounding this house. My one bedroom apartment was tiny but perfect while I staYed for a week while visiting my husband at Royal Jubilee Hospital. The kitchen and bath had touches of convenience that were very nice, such as plastic wrap and a canister of tea bags, a starter pack of laundry supplies, and shampoo. They even left fresh flowers and some baked goodies on the kitchen table.
I appreciated Johns welcoming demeanour and his willingness to help out. The apartment was spotless and filled with little personal touches and bits of art that made it feel homey. I would definitely recommend Oakland’s 8 and plan to come again when we are in town.

My wife and I came to Victoria to attend the Highland Games. We enjoyed our stay here very much! John was very helpful and extremely friendly. The unit was very homey and clean and the neighborhood was very quiet. If I return to Victoria I will definitely be staying here again. The front and rear gardens are very beautiful as well!

My daughter and I spent four nights at Oaklands 8 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable and the pull out couch was top notch. The kitchen had everything we needed and all of the finishes in the suite (bathroom and kitchen) were first class and new. The view through the front window out into a lovely garden was awesome. Fernwood is a great neighbourhood and we took advantage of the local pub, fish and chips shop and the lovely walking opportunities. We split our time between UVic and downtown and both were only minutes away by car but it's a good location for almost any activity. The back garden was breathtaking and I lucked into an awesome tour by our host John!

We had a fantastic stay here. Lovely appointed apartment with everything you need. Lovely quiet area to stay in but has shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Easy walk to Downtown. We walked to see everything we wanted. Nice not to be in the car. The owners are fantastic and so helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this as a great place to stay. When we return I will be staying there again.

This has been our best home away stay so far. Recently renovated and designed by the owners with exquisite taste and attention to every detail, the apartment is very comfortable and peaceful, as are the beautiful surroundings. John and Rob are very friendly, helpful and easy to reach and communicate with. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing vacation experience. John and Rob are excellent hosts. John met us upon arrival, and graciously gave us a tour of their beautiful garden. The apartment was immaculate, beautifully decorated and well stocked. The location was perfect for our needs. It’s a very short drive to downtown attractions and close to local parks /public gardens. We tried several nearby restaurants John recommended, and they were all wonderful. Everything was perfect.

Who needs Butchart Gardens when you have John and Rob's place? Beautiful with everything you need in this cozy apartment and a gorgeous garden to wander through and relax in. The bed is very comfortable as is the fold out single, if you need it. My cousin stayed a night while I was there for the week visiting my sister in the hospital and she wants to buy one for her place. Fernwood is a lovely neighbourhood with lots of little places of intrigue within walking distance. I was on foot/bus and I found I could reach both the hospital (Victoria General by bus) and downtown very easily. Downtown is a short bus ride, but I also walked there. John and Rob are excellent hosts. They made me feel very welcome and provided me with maps and information on where to go and how to get there. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and look forward to returning when I next visit Victoria.
