About this lodge
What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville with all it’s breweries. Twenty minutes to the east is the quaint town of Black Mountain. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hour’s drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door.
The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but seems to be important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the primary suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower.
You can’t overlook the view. Actually, you can overlook it all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance. As the evening progresses you can join your family and friends around our fire pit.
When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.
We can provide transportation for a fee in our 12 passenger(including driver) 4WD van. Go out for an evening on the town and leave the driving to us. If the weather gets bad, we can get you where you need to go!
Special notes:
The Lodge is made up of 2 structures, the main Lodge and the Guest House. They both have 4 bedrooms and 4 baths each . All the common spaces are in the main Lodge and the Guest House only has bed and bathrooms. The 2 structures come at the one rental price quoted and they cannot be rented separately. To access the main Lodge you have to climb the 10-15 stairs seen in our pictures. The 2 buildings are very close to each other (10-20 feet apart).
Per Vrbo policy we need to disclose that there is a ring camera overlooking the parking area that we use to keep an eye on things when there is no one staying at the Lodge. If this is an issue for you, there is a switch to turn it off.

This is probably the nicest rental property I’ve ever stayed in. The views were amazing, every room is spacious and has a bathroom. Highly recommend this place. Be aware that the house is at the top of a mountain on an unpaved road, so make sure you have a vehicle that can handle that. Simms and Hunter were both great and Hunter gave us a ride to and from downtown Asheville.

This was a great place for the whole family to have fun and share wonderful experiences. The access road could be a little dicey during a heavy rain but we were able to get around OK.

I have eight siblings and their spouses. We used this Vrbo for our family reunion. This moose lodge was wonderful! Each of my siblings had their own bedroom and bathroom, which was very nice. The common areas were super! We had a wonderful time! The views, and the shuttle to various venues we wanted to go to was an added plus. I highly recommend this place.

We hosted a family reunion here - 20 of us from all over the world. The lodge was well appointed and set up for a group of our size. Gorgeous views, great location, well equipped and responsive owner. Loved that every bedroom had its own bathroom, plus multiple dishwashers and refrigerators. Would stay here again - highly recommend!

The property is just as advertised. Beautiful and spacious with great views. Kitchen is well stocked and the ping pong table was well used. We even saw two bears passing through. Highly recommend the van service (the last mile is no fun in the dark) driver was punctual, friendly and knowledgeable you can just text the number and they will get immediately contact you.

The property consists of the main house ( 4 bedrooms) and the guest house right adjacent with 4 large bedrooms. Each bedroom has a full bathroom en suite. The master suite on the first floor of the main house is huge with a huge bathroom and very large closet( as large as a single dormitory room). The houses are gorgeous with large decks with rocking chairs. The only common rooms ( kitchen, dining, lounges) are in the main house. These rooms are very well appointed and easily allowed our party of 11 to spread out in comfort. The view of the mountains magnificent. Though a mile ride up the mountain, you are close to stores, eateries and not far from downtown. The hewn log cabin interior provided the perfect ambiance. The kitchen has all you need to store and prepare tasty treats. Even has a separate ice maker, double oven, large cook top, a large refrigerator and a smaller refrigerator, 2 dishwashers, modern.washer and dryer. You will love this house. The only thing is the staircase to get into the main house could be a challenge for someone with bad knees or hips. The host is very nice and accessible. We did not have to call him as we expérienced no problems.
people have commented on the drive up the mountain. I was concerned about it too. Though a little steep in a few places and had a couple of sharp turns, it is not bad at all ,especially after doing it once. we all had suv style vehicles and were glad we did. arrive before dark first time.
Highly recommend

Every summer our family does a family vacation. We need space and bedrooms to accommodate all 17 of us. This year we chose Asheville and this particular cabin. Some of us loved being at the top of the mountain on the gravel road others would have preferred not having the very short drive back and forth. The cabin was spacious and met our needs. We especially enjoyed the high quality appliances and made use of them daily as we chose to cook most meals rather than eating out. The kitchen is well stocked. The master bedroom in the main house is BIG and the bed was comfortable. The children enjoyed ping pong and catching fire flies and smores on the fire pit.
On a couple of concerns to mention. There are a few loose boards on the decks with nails or screws being a hazard. We had some bees in the guest house that we bombed while we were there. Road is very dusty.,,,I promise you will need a car wash or two when you leave. Overall not enough to keep us from enjoying our trip or considering not renting again. The bear sightings and deer was a bonus as well as the wrap around deck. Views of mountains are spectacular! Great vacation for our family

We were a group of old high school friends celebrating our 70th birthday together. Staying at this VRBO was more than we could have hoped for! Everyone had their own private room and bathroom, and yet we were together. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with two dishwashers two refrigerators and an awesome gas stove. Both homes were very clean and tidy, The beds were comfortable. The view from the front porch was absolutely stunning. If there is ever a need for a large group of us to get together again, we would certainly consider Staying here again.

We could have spent all our time on the porch enjoying the unobstructed stunning view of the mountains, but with the services of the van at our disposal we felt compelled to do some exploring. Our hosts were great at suggesting activities and restaurants, which was much appreciated. The lodge was perfect for our group of friends, and had everything we could need or want. The trip up and down the mountain kept us on our toes, but is well worth it!

The Wayward Moose Lodge is a fantastic property that is perfect for family reunions, friend get-togethers, or other events. Our daughter got married in Asheville and we wanted a place where the family and some friends could stay and be together, but also the place where those who weren't staying with us could gather and visit before and after the wedding. This was perfect. The main home is spacious with plenty of room for the 20-25 people we had visiting for the rehearsal dinner. We only used 6 of the 8 bedrooms, but those who stayed with us raved about the rooms and the lodge itself. The en-suite bathrooms for each bedroom were a big hit. The kitchen is a dream with a main refrigerator, a drink refrigerator, hot water dispenser, ice machine, two dishwashers, commercial coffee maker, plus all the usual. Utensils, dishes, coffee mugs were all exactly what was needed and plentiful. I don't think we could have had a nicer stay in a better place. The host was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. He was able to provide us some firewood for the fire pit during our stay so the nearlywed couple could enjoy making s'mores with their friends. He was very flexible with us for the shuttle service, which was very helpful. The views from the deck are wonderful and relaxing. The road up the mountain is a little iffy in the rain, but none of our group had any issues with it. We would definitely choose to stay at the Wayward Moose again next time we are in Asheville.

We loved the cabin, great kitchen, beautiful place. our driver picked us up and took us to the Orange Peel for a concert, absolutely great service. All 14 of us recommend the wayward Moose for your group or family.

Big, modern lodge on the fringe of east Asheville. Eight comfortable bedrooms (4 in the adjacent guest house) with a large common Great Room for 16 friends to meet, converse, play games, or watch football on the satellite TV. Kitchen is very well equipped and clean, two dishwashers, ample oven space, Bunn coffee maker with air pod carafes -- basically everything a big group needs to be comforable. The lodge is a 5-minute walk to the Mountains to Sea Trail adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, but only 5-10 minutes to drive to the grocery store and 5-10 more to the middle of Asheville. Even though we were toasty warm in 30 degree weather, the south facing deck was inviting with its rocking chairs and views of the Riceville Valley and south mountains. The single track road to get up the mountain is well maintained and there are numerous pulloffs -- the two Priuses in our group made it wthout issues. Simms was a terriific host, always available to us by text, even on the holiday. No surprise this place is heavily booked.

Beautiful setting, very spacious lodge with plenty of privacy and room to congregate. The gravel road up the mountain is pretty long, but once you've made it up the hill it's worth it. The two buildings are next to the Mountains to Sea Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the proximity to Asheville was good. We didn't opt for the transportation that is available, but that is a unique option you don't see often. This property worked out very well for our family.

We were a group of 10 women gathering for a friends getaway. The Inn was comfortable, spacious, private and easily accomodated our entire party. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and the ping pong table was an added bonus. The beds were very comfortable. Also, the roundtrip transportation offered, for a fee, gave us peace of mind after dark, as the Inn is situated high up a mountainside - plus, we could indulge in a beverage or two; giving a shoutout to Audrey, our driver! The property manager was easily accessible and quickly responded to all inquiries. We would recommend a stay here and look forward to returning on our next trip to Asheville.

We celebrated Thanksgiving 2023 here. The e worked well with 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers, and a lot of counter space. The trash system was set up well. All good for a big group!!
We enjoyed the nearby hiking trails.
The owner was quick to answer questions. He seems to be a nice person who wants his guests to enjoy the property.

We chose Asheville as a meeting point between family in Atlanta and family in Pennsylvania, and it’s a beautiful city! The house served us really well (11 adults and 6 kiddos) and everyone had room to spread out or hang out together. The kitchen is very well appointed, which was wonderful because we made a huge thanksgiving dinner! We highly recommend this property! And the owner was very responsive when we had a couple of questions. Two thumbs up!!

We are a group of high school friends that have been traveling together once a year for years. (We graduated in 1965!) We’ve been all over the country, staying in all kinds of hotels and houses. This was perfect now at our ages, because we each got our own bedroom and bathroom!
The house was beautiful and the views fantastic! The road up to the house was a little scary at first but manageable. We toured beautiful Asheville during the day and ate in each evening. The kitchen had all we needed.
We all would definitely recommend this house for families or big groups of friends!

Beautiful views with even more space than in description. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Loved all the rocking chairs. Driveway steep but doable even with Corolla

The drive up to the house is what I would expect here in the mountains. An adventure at first. We all loved the lodge. It had ample room for my extended family of 20+: room to gather, room to eat, room to find a space to be alone. Having 8 bedrooms, each with a nice bathroom was really a game changer and very much appreciated by my adult relatives. The kitchen is well-stocked and everything would have been perfect if the built-in fridge had been working. We needed instructions for the Bunn coffeemaker, but we eventually figured it out. The deck was a wonderful place to enjoy the mountain views.

Wow, what a great stay. We had a small elopement with family and needed a large cabin for the weekend. This cabin is beautifully built, has everything you need for a large gathering of people, and gorgeous views. Simms was very communicative and ensured that everything was perfect for us. We also loved being able to use the shuttle and firewood service. You should definitely stay here!

We had a wonderful time. Accommodations were wonderful for our group of 15 Senior Citizens. We did ok navigating the mountain road and the stairs into the houses. If you want to enjoy the view, you gotta get high, right? Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

This is a really great place for a big family get together. We had 14 people stay here, and it was very comfortable. It was great that there were so many bathrooms. The views are amazing, and we really enjoyed the hiking trail above the house. The kitchen was nice, with very good appliances.

A wonderful option for a large family getaway. Convenient to downtown Asheville, numerous state and national parks, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estate, a small zoo, numerous breweries, and so much more. All bedrooms have an en suite bathroom, which worked out wonderful for us. Great communications with the owner, would absolutely consider coming here again.

We had a wonderful trip with our extended family who were in town for the holidays from Europe! We cooked and enjoyed the property while doing holiday crafts and visiting Biltmore!

This was a great place for our large, active family vacation. It's pretty secluded, which we loved. The house was clean, well maintained, but we could tell it gets well used and enjoyed. Nineteen of us from -1 to 70 years of age were happy to have 8 bedrooms each with their own bathroom. The guest house was a bit concerning but, worked out great. The families with young children stayed in those rooms where they could nap and get to bed early without being disturbed. We'd definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity arises.

House was everything we had hoped and very spacious
Van availability was key and Audrey was great and very timely picking us up

We held a 20-yr high school reunion with our close friends. We had couple with no kids, single individuals, families with young crazy boys, and familes with infants. There was lots of space to spread out and get private quiet time but also a wonderful large open kitchen/dining/living area that we spent most of our time in. We used the grill, the fire pit outside and the fireplace inside (would recommend asking if there is firewood as we did not have a lot and had to go out and get more, not a big deal). Having gas fireplaces in some of the rooms was also clutch since we had a fluke cold Memorial day weekend. Kitchen is incredible with lots of dishes, 2 ovens and 2 dish washers, ice maker, huge fridge, and extra beer/wine fridge, an industrial sized coffee pot that we used A LOT. I loved that there was an entrance to a beautiful hike just off the driveway. We had some small snafus while there (light bulbs out, hot water heater issues) that the owner was incredibly timely and helpful in fixing. All in all, I would highly recommend this for anybody renting with a large group of families.

The lodge was gorgeous. So much space and amenities. Wish we decided to stay another day. The road up to the lodge was a little crazy but we were warned and the shuttle was so convenient for a wedding in town. The owners warned about the possibility of a hot water heater not working with compensation offered but all worked out. The views and trails nearby were perfect. The one thing I would change is putting ant traps somewhere or spraying for ants as they were in the master bathroom and some around the house- understandable as very dry. Thx for a wonderful time.

Our group was six adult couples. Every bedroom having its own private bathroom was a big plus. The great room was large enough to comfortably hold our group as we caught up with one another. Day trips to the Biltmore Estate and Lake Lure we easy drives.

We stayed at the Wayward Moose Lodge with siblings, parents and grandparents to celebrate a College Graduation together at a nearby school. The property was perfect for a large group with big kitchen and great room to spread out and enjoy meals together. The property was clean. Lots of good movies and books on the shelves. It was exactly what we expected. The photos are great but, they don't full capture the amazing mountain view and the big open spaces. I highly recommend.

This is an amazing and well-appointed 2-cabin complex with an incredible view. We had my father’s 80th birthday/family reunion here and it was perfect in every way. The manager was responsive and friendly. I cannot recommend this highly enough. If you have a group of people the Wandering Moose is the best!!!

My large group spent Easter in this property and the rooms are very spacious which accommodated our number. Check in was smooth and the managers were very responsive of our concerns. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and the kitchen was complete of cooking pots and pans for us to prepare our meal. We just wished that we could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the house and the view.

The home was beautiful inside & out. The space offered was perfect for our party of 16 adults. It was amazing that each bedroom had a private bath. The gourmet kitchen, vaulted living room & dining room was perfect for entertaining. We would definitely stay here again.
