We have a wonderful weekend stay at this adorable cottage. We all had a great time and would love to return in the future!

We had a great week here. Owner was communicative and kind. House is adorable--my favorite spot was the corner shelves-lots of playthings for the 3yr and 20 month old babies and many, many reading choices for me. Fully stocked kitchen-something I am greatly appreciative of; while we didn't use it, the attic bedroom getaway would be really cool for older children; a short and very pleasant walk to the very kid-friendly beach, and neighbors and locals who were kind, friendly and helpful. Perfect weather did not hurt the experience either. Try it out-you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here for a sisters weekend. The place is so comfortable and clean. Even more spacious then the pictures show. Well appointed with plenty of places to lounge around. Kitchen had everything, there were plenty of towels and the beds were very comfortable. The fireplace was a welcome place to warm up as the night got very chilly on the early spring nights.
We walked to the beach in 3 minutes. Drove to Old Saybrook for a stroll down town, visited several antique and thrift stores and ate both a fabulous lunch and dinner at some of the many choices nearby.
Just a great weekend. We will be back!

We had the best time and only wish it was longer! The house is beautiful and comfortable, with lovely blue colors and sweet touches everywhere.
We loved hanging in the kitchen, sitting by the fireplace and on the porches.
Mel was a pleasure to deal with and gave us great recommendations for restaurants.

Mel is a wonderful host and provided everything we needed even a cart to bring all our chairs and umbrellas to the beach. We enjoyed our stay!

Cute clean older house in a super quiet and safe, lovely neighborhood, with a two-minute walk to the beach. Gorgeous sunsets! Mel was quick to respond when we had a minor issue with the house lock battery running low. A comfortable and homey place to stay. No central air, but has room air conditioners.

Our family was in town for a wedding and Mel's place provided us with the perfect place to relax, gather and enjoy the company of family while we were in town. The cottage is clean, cozy and well equipped with all the necessities needed for a home away from home. The proximity to the private Chapman beaches was wonderful and Mel's cottage has a beautiful back yard to relax in!

A cozy, comfortable home for our gathering of four long-time friends, and we appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine! Beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked, everything clean. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, using the picnic table in the back for lunch, and made the short daily stroll each morning to the quiet beach with the supplied beach chairs. It was a convenient location too! We all enjoyed our stay and agreed we would come back if in the area again.

Just returned from an amazing stay at this property. House was as described and personalized touches such as flowers and a chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio set the tone of the stay. The kids (ages 12/14) loved the loft / bunk area, and there were plenty of books and games for those looking for some at home activities. Mel was fantastic to communicate with from the outset and was super responsive whenever we had a question. AC units in the various rooms were more than enough to keep the house cool (I believe one bedroom only had a fan - we didn’t need to use that bedroom), and we enjoyed being able to open the windows for some fresh air during the stay. I’ve been missing my daily walks to the various beaches within the association in search of beautiful sea glass and cannot wait to return next summer with the family!

The experience was positive from beginning to end. Mel was always available and provided info and helpful responses along the way. The cottage, just steps from a wonderful beach, was ideal. We had small gatherings of friends and family for which the house is well suited. It is equipped with everything you need, especially the kitchen! All that is required is your bathing suit. My favourite spot was the back porch and back garden, filled with butterflies and peace. It is a quiet and friendly beach community. Thank you Mel for providing the backdrop to an unforgettable holiday and reunion with family. We would love to return!!

We had a wonderful time. The cottage is adorable and perfectly furnished. Everything you could need is right there and it's just a short stroll to the beach. There was room for everybody to be together but also enough room for 4 adults to have space. We enjoyed all the restaurants and the cute Main Streets. I haven't been this relaxed in years. Thank you Mel - we can't wait to come back!

Loved the house and vicinity to beach. We will definitely be back.

My family of 4 really enjoyed this little vacation home. My teenaged daughters agreed that the living space was nicely decorated with the favorite item being the skylights in the kitchen. My wife and I loved cooking and preparing food in the surprisingly spacious kitchen and we agreed that the bathrooms, while neither modern or fancy, were also spacious and functional. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is simply the lack of central A/C (window units). My family is particularly attached to this creature comfort and we happened to stay during a rare New England heat wave. But if I had not booked this home due to this then I would have missed out on this sweet and friendly little neighborhood. The highlight of this listing is definitely the private beach which is a charming 3 minute (tops) walk around the corner. The beach is small but it was never crowded and the people are all friendly and welcoming. We had the beach to ourselves on several occasions and we all enjoyed exploring the rock formations. Also be sure to visit the state park beach not 15 minutes away - it is gorgeous and plenty big enough for that 'big beach' experience. Thank you to our kind host - she was friendly and gracious and available as needed.

The beach house was fully equipped with everything and more than one requires for an extended stay. Pleasantly furnished with adequate space for entertaining and stretching out. Lovely yard visited by birds, butterflies and even rabbits. A very short walk to a private beach. Tastefully decorated and immaculate upon arrival. Parking is limited to only 3,vehicles yet that did not pose a problem during our stay. All in all, a place that will provide a wonderful respite along the Connecticut shoreline.
4.0 / 5.0
The house is beautiful and cozy, and the furniture invites you to sit and chat or read in a comfy spot. The amenities were okay, and the few things we needed were easy to purchase close by. There are a few small beaches that are nice for a day or two, and several larger state parks and very good restaurants are close by. The resident-neighbors are pleasant and helpful! We had a great trip!

Cozy on the coast
Mel's home was the perfect centralized location for my family in Boston & NY to meet up this spring. With a well furnished/stocked home that accommodated guests of all ages, we were able to spend lots of quality time at the beach, in the backyard, on the porches, and in the cozy living area. Mel's online recommendations were spot-on and we really enjoyed checking out some of the local attractions in Westbrook & the neighboring communities. The quaint community was the best get away, we met several lovely neighbors during walks in the morning & at sunset. The property's driveway is a bit tricky to find but Mel was very responsive and a neighbor stopped by to help us navigate. I would highly recommend Mel's property for folks looking for a relaxing spot near the water! Our families plan on returning again sometime next year.

Lovely spot for a beach getaway
Mel's house was the perfect spot for two families to share while in the area visiting friends for the weekend. A short walk to a quiet beach in a lovely community. We also had a great time hanging out in the backyard! Well stocked kitchen and lots of games and art supplies to keep us entertained.
