About this cottage rental
The Potting Shed is the quintessential 5* Cotswold escape. Following an 18 month restoration completed in May 2019, this stone barn conversion has just been launched. Located within the grounds of an elegant Grade II listed Georgian town house on Cecily Hill - voted one of the prettiest streets in England, this romantic getaway is accessed by a private stone bridge which leads through through a formal kitchen garden to a stunning private terrace. Follow us on Instagram at @the_potting_shed_cirencester for more photos and updates about our property!
The Potting Shed is a self-contained converted stone barn which occupies 550 sq ft of living space and has a generous 200 sq ft private terrace. This gorgeous hideaway sits in our grounds but, with its own separate entrance, it is a very private cottage.
Following an extensive restoration from the ground up in 2018/19, we have used local materials and Cotswold craftsmanship to create a retreat that’s been decorated to a very high standard throughout using beautiful fittings, Farrow and Ball paints and designer fabrics.
Upstairs under the eaves, with their original lime-washed oak beams and exposed Cotswold stone walls, are 4 heritage double glazed conservation windows, fitted with black out blinds for the light early mornings. The king sized double bed occupies one end of the bedroom while a generous cupboard sits at the other end with hanging rails for your clothes and space for your bags. All the upstairs lighting controls are conveniently located next to both sides of the bed.
Downstairs features a great living space with excellent wifi and underfloor heating installed throughout. There’s a fully equipped kitchen containing a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge with ice compartment, gas cooker, microwave and masses of kitchen utensils, pots and pans… so if you fancy dining in, there’s everything you need to create delicious meals while the drop-leaf dining table can be extended from 2 to 4 places.
In the cosy living area, there’s a deep sofa and a 4k TV with access to both Catch-up and Netflix. Finally, for those chilly evenings, a stylish Chesneys gas fire will keep you lovely and warm and as it’s operated by remote control, you need only to lift a finger!
The luxurious bathroom is also located downstairs and is equipped with underfloor heating and high end fittings such as a Hanns Grohe shower, Burlington taps and natural Bramley bathroom products, all designed for complete indulgence.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as can be, we’ve kitted out the cottage with a fully integrated heating system operated by Nest, which also controls the underfloor heating. But your safety is vital so we’ve also installed an intelligent AutoMist® fire suppression system.
Outside, the terrace is perfectly set-up for alfresco drinks and dining and it is there exclusively for your use. There is a shared formal kitchen garden or potager, bordered by a mature hedge which forms the boundary of the shared space, beyond which the rest of the garden is private. The Gumstool Brook bridge was also rebuilt last year and the iron decorative railings and pillars which we added won the Cirencester 2019 Civic Design award.
Checking-in, Dropping off & Parking
The Potting Shed is set up for self check-in, with a keypad entry system on the bridge and a key safe by the front door. Unfortunately, we do not provide parking on site, however there is a drop off point at the end of the Gumstool Brook path, where guests can unload. Cars can be parked at The Old Station, The Brewery, Waterloo or The Beeches car parks; there is also free off-street parking on Baunton Lane (subject to availability) just 3 minutes’ walk away. Alternatively, private parking can be arranged for a small charge, including a Type 2 EV charge point. For those travelling without a car, Kemble train station is situated 10 minutes from Cirencester – and trains from London take 1hr 20mins.
From May until September, the beautiful Cirencester open air swimming pool, with its warm spring-fed water, is open from 7am. It’s a couple of minutes' walk along from the Gumstool Brook bridge so why not go for a refreshing early morning dip!

The spot is amazing, and the accommodations are beautiful. The private garden was exceptionally beautiful parking was a challenge, took me about 30 minutes to find a place. The owner was able to answer the phone, but not give great directions on where to park and the city can be confusing, overall it was all worth it in the end

Such a gorgeous little property in a lovely location. Easy to access and within walking distance to the shops and restaurants, as well as a beautiful park. We visited in January and the property was lovely and warm and cosy and had everything we needed to enjoy a few days away. Would love to visit again in summer as the garden was delightful.

“The Cottage is amazing, the area is so quaint , we had a fabulous stay!”
We loved every minute of our 3 night break at the Potting Shed. It’s unique and exquisite inside. We had planned some evenings out but the cottage is so nice and cosy we actually stayed in most evenings to enjoy it.
It’s perfectly situated to explore surrounding areas, Bourbon on the water , Bath did not disappoint. The bedroom upstairs is simply stunning. The extra touches around the cottage to make it more homely were all appreciated and made it easy to just unpack and relax.
Dominic and Ali checked we was all settled the first night , nothing was too much trouble .
Would highly recommend staying here if visiting the Cotswold or surrounding areas or you just want to enjoy this beautiful property.

The perfect stay - as soon as we opened the door we fell in love with our little cottage barn. The design was exactly what we’d hoped for, and we looked forward to having our mornings and evenings here!
We had a little trouble finding it on the first day, even with the instructions, but after asking a neighbour we understood exactly where to go. I also had a little trouble locking the door, but my partner managed to lock and unlock with more ease.
Everything was clean, all amenities worked really well, everything was stocked and the entire place warmed up magically with the little fire. There are also shops close by to pick up food so there was no issue with that.
Would definitely recommend and would definitely love to come back!

We had a great stay at The Potting Shed. The location is perfect, neatly set with short walks to Cirencester Town and the green and spacious Bathurst Estate for some nice walks. The Potting Shed itself is super cosy, clean and comes with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Communication with Dominic was helpful and super quick. Thanks for a great few days, would definitely recommend and can't wait to return one day!

We had a little issue with the code and the owner called immediately to help.

This little hidden gem was the most charming place to spend a couple of days visiting the Cotswold area. The owners were very hospitable, and the place was immaculately clean and cozy. It was a great home base to explore Cirecester on foot backing up to a beautiful park. The Potting Shed is even more charming that the photos indicate! Thank you!

The property is absolutely lovely with great attention to detail.
Bed was super comfortable and the whole place was cosy and welcoming.
The potting shed is located a few minutes walk from the centre so everything is only a short walk away. We parked at the old station car park, about a five minute walk away

Our first trip to the UK has been in the plans for the last 2 years. Initially our plan for the Cotswolds portion was to be based in Bath. Upon replanning for this trip. I saw this property in Cirencestor. I have to say that this was spot on a great find. First Cierencester itself is a destination to be seen, and the proximity of numerous restaurants, pubs and coffee shops make it easy to find something to eat if you don’t want to cook yourself.
Second the location to the Cotswolds smaller villages. In our 5 day stay,we easily fit in birdied, bourbon-on the water(and Slaughters) Broadway, Castle Combe and Lacock, as well as Bath. Bath being the furthest at just over an hour. The others were 20 to 40 minutes.
So the location is great. But the property is fantastic. It really has a cozy feel. When we arrived the temps were starting to fall and it was nice firing up the gas burner. The layout is perfect go a couple. The pictures are spot on. Having a private garden was also a plus. Dominic treated us with some breakfast essentials and came over and introduced himself.
The upstairs loft has plenty of storage and places to put your suitcases. The bed was quite comfortable. The 1 bathroom, while being downstairs, had a great shower, the heated towel rack was another plus. Of note, I’m 6’ 1” and the bathroom entry is about 3 inches shorter ( I only forgot 1 time). I had expected this as it was a conversion.
All in all this is a top property and was well worth the asking price. Thanks again for sharing.

Compact but excellent layout, very convenient for walking into Cirencester, the Lido and the park.
The Lady house sitting was helpful and made us feel very welcome.
We would go again.

Perfect escape
The potting shed is a truly delightful place. Absolutely perfect place to escape the rat race but also minutes away from the centre of town where you'll find some really lovely independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
