The Austin Street Retreat is an authentic historic home built by European settlers well over a century ago. Restored and embellished through the decades with modern amenities, there are now five unique suites. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg's National Historic District, this premier property is an authentic Texas treasure built of stone, timber and stucco. It is situated on a large double lot shaded by old growth pecan trees and perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Each suite features elegant, charming decor along with a private terrace.
Popular for Hill Country wine tours, family and friend reunions, special occasions and celebrations, the Retreat can sleep a total of twelve people.
Annie's Cabin
There is a jewel resting among the large old pecan trees at the back of the German Immigration Company Townlot called Annie's Cabin. You might expect to come upon this little cabin out in the woods, while hiking through Europe, yet it is located in a private setting behind the Austin Street Retreat. Annie's Cabin is famous in Fredericksburg for a look and feel that is nouveau Victorian and sexy at the same time. This spacious cabin (with a bath as large as many bedrooms) conjures a sensuous evening of tranquility and romance. The look was achieved by giving total artistic control to the owners of the Homestead store.
The stuccoed exterior and window boxes give you a hint of the charm waiting inside. The bedroom/sitting room you enter has a time worn look with smokey rose walls. The head and front of the king-size bed are made of an old iron fence embellished by a Fredericksburg craftsman to make it a “Cupid's arrow” bed. A fireplace and handpainted Victorian cottage chest add more touches of romance. Two cozy upholstered chairs offer a place to ponder the simplicity and beauty of this cottage.
The bathroom includes walls that are the color and texture of parchment paper, and a soaking tub for two surrounded by native rock. Inspired ideas from the designers include a tree branch towel rack and a built in shadow box shelf filled with treasures from near and far.
*Please be aware that only one dog is allowed at the accommodation and that there is an additional nightly fee for your dog. If you do bring a dog, please bring a crate and crate your dog in your absence from the house, do not allow the dog on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of his or her waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.
The suite uses Brooklinen sheets and towels.

We asked to change cabins, so we could have a shower and they let us change with ease. we really liked the cosiness of the place. We would stay again.
4.3
Sheets not clean., probably washed but still hair and other things. Smell of musty fireplace. Rocky uneven floors.
Toilet raised on rocky steps just weird and dangerous.
Chairs were stained stunk.
2 rating for spacious.

The cabin was very clean and we could not have asked for a better place to stay at last minute. We had a wonderful experience.
4.3
There were bugs in the bathtub upon arrival and the grounds weren't very well kept. Unfortunately, and most frustratingly, we were awoken early in the morning by maintenance crews working outside the window on clearing brush, mowing the lawns, and leaf blowing. No resolution to date. As a couple who've stayed at Annie's previously, we're most disappointed in the experience.

We enjoyed our stay in Fredericksburg and liked our first time on the West end of town. We found a great coffee shop within walking distance… Caliche Coffee Bar & Roastery and loved the coffee, food and atmosphere. We also ate breakfast at close by Old German Bakery and Restaurant… a regular place for us. And, we got there early before the lines formed.
Regarding coffee, the coffee maker at Annie's is in need of deep cleaning or replacement. The bathroom / kitchen area is very different and may keep us from coming back. If only the toilet could be more private!!! However, everything else was ideal.

Very convenient and well organized.

Wonderful rock cottage, warm and cozy furnishings. It had everything we needed and plenty of space to spread out. Everything was clean, comfortable bed, cute little kitchen area, lots of hot water.
Staff originally gave us the key to a different cottage but luckily they were still open when we went back, once that was settled it was all perfect. Would definitely stay there again!

The room was perfect! Very comfortable bed, loved the fireplace & the soaking tub was wonderful!

This was a last minute reservation. Place was ok, some flooring was slippery, not much of a kitchen. Jacuzzi had no jets and also very slippery bottom. One thing, bed was very comfy.

A few things to consider that I just wanted to share with you privately: the bed is really uncomfortable. I might consider upgrading the mattress to provide a more comfortable night sleep for your guests. The light bulb was out on the "porch light" by the front door. The TV didn't work - we tried to connect but it was so slow that it couldn't ever connect for us to watch a movie. While the bathtub was very clean, the shower was a little dirty - some hair and small bits on the floor of the shower. The coffee pot is really old & was terribly dirty. I tried to clean it up as best as i could so i could make coffee, but it's also stained from use. Might consider replacing with a new one. Great location and feel of a "pioneer vibe". Enjoyed it!

Annie's Cabin is a pleasant little cabin located off-street so it is quiet and peaceful. It is very well maintained with reasonable amenities. The king-sized bed is very comfortable. The bath is a large room with tiny shower and big soaking tub. There is also a credenza containing a small refrigerator, coffee service, glassware and sink. It is a bit of a walk to the main downtown area but I enjoyed the walk (I'm 73).

Annie's Cabin was a sweet little getaway. The house was clean and friendly. The bathroom was nice and the big tub was great to relax in. The only complaint I have is that the bed was not too comfortable. While it wasn't the worst bed I've slept in, it definitely wasn't the best. I woke up with a sore back on the second day. Check in and check out was super easy! Everyone was friendly and pleasant.

Annie's Cabin was great.

Annie's has everything you would want! It is a well kept, beautiful little cottage. The bathroom is awesome and huge, the oversized tub is perfect and the bedroom/living room is spacious and inviting. Everything you could want in one little package!

beautiful amenities, lovely space and perfect. I loved it. Plus amazing bed :)

Great to return to the place we spent our wedding night 20 years ago. Nice, quiet and relaxing time!

Love Austin Retreat. We usually stay at El Jefe but stayed at Annie's because we took our doggies this time. It is always very quite and romantic and have a fire going most of the time. I took off one star only because we have been going for over 10 years and everything is always the same. Bed Spreads, rugs, upholstery....maybe some sprucing up would do, but it is always clean. One of my most favorite places to stay.

Love Austin Street Retreat! it was our second stay at ASR. So happy to have a pet friendly option - we love to travel with our dog and Fredericksburg is a very dog friendly town. Plenty of green space to play ball and hang out with friends. Always our first choice in pet friendly lodging!

Parking is a bit tight so once we parked, we walked everywhere. Clean, nice place.

Perfect getaway- quaint, quiet, close to Main St heart.

Positives: Lovely outer appearance of unit, nice interior overall, good rustic furniture. Breakfast coupons good idea. Bed slept well. Afghan throw at chairs nice touch.
Negatives: Front door swollen from rain, VERY hard to open. Heavy moldy odor in unit. Shower almost too small to be usable. Do something with storage shed just outside of unit's front door, overall entrance to the place may be intended as rustic but comes off creepy. Toilet takes multiple flushes. I know you want quaint, but improve privacy with better window coverings. Paver floor in bedroom is bacterial haven, but cleanable. Not so for natural stone floor in bathroom area; even a steam treatment can insure a germ-free surface there. The overall impression of the stay rates the 3 rating. It's obvious you were trying for rustic, quaint, maybe even historic. But what one is left with, overall, is a sense of corners having been cut and the guest expected to "embrace" them. Not returning here. Sorry.

Property is cute but significant deferred maintenance. Attention to detail on the cleanliness lacked as there was a large spider web with live spider next to bathroom sink in prominent view when we arrived. Coffee pot was dirty. Shower was small. No bath mat. Curtain didn't fit. Just Lack of attention to details that could have made it a really cute place. Bed was comfortable.
4.3
Such a cute cabin with a wonderful bath tub that was walking distance from downtown. I can't wait to stay here again!
4.3
This is a very cute cabin tucked away one block from Main Street. Has a nice bath tub and a separate shower(although very small). This is a very roomy and comfortable cabin that is decorated very nicely.
4.3
This was a wonderful, secluded place to stay! Even though both places on either side of us were also booked, we never knew they were there. The bathroom was definitely one of a kind and the bed was excellent!! Milk bones, along with food/water bowls were even left for furry friends which made us feel more relaxed about bringing them.
Thank you for creating great, very clean accommodations for our visit to Fredericksburg!

We absolutely loved our stay at Annie's Cabin... everything was perfect for our Christmas season get away, and the cabin was the highlight!!!! Can't wait to come back to Fredericksburg and another stay at Austin Street Retreat!!!!

We enjoyed the nice in town hideaway! Location was great and the room was very clean. We look forward to going back! The shower was a bit small but overall the place was amazing!

We had a great time in Fredericksburg. The Austin Street Retreat & Annie's cabin was perfectly located one block off Main Street and walking distance to everything we needed. The cabin was clean and very well taken care of. The staff was amazing and very helpful. I left my cc there and Lisa quickly called to let me know before we left town. I'd highly recommend staying here when visiting Fredericksburg.

We had a late check in on a Saturday and left on Sunday. I'm actually disappointed we didn't get to enjoy this little gem longer. We will definitely be back.
4.3
We have stayed at the property in the past and been very pleased. The property seems to be lacking attention to detail these days. I thought I lost my phone in one of the chairs and the crud and debris in them is clear they have not been cleaned in some time. We could smell dog smells in our room. Also, after the storm the bathroom seems to be leaking in around the raised commode area, you may want to look into this as in places it had seeped in and pooled on the stone. The grounds are pretty neglected too.
We love the location and seclusion and the breakfast coupons are perfect. I'm sad to say we won't book in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Clean, quaint, and cozy. We would heartily recommend it to others.
