About this cottage rental
Our houses, Bakki and Holt, are the perfect base for your Icelandic holiday. Have a memorable day at Snæfellsnes National Park with a snow scooter trip on top of the amazing Snæfellsjökull glacier, a visit to a natural hot spring like Deildartunguhver, or amazing waterfall like Hraunfossar. Other interesting places to visit are, the active volcano Grábrók, the crater Eldborg, historical viking landmark Reykholt, and taking a walk into the glacier Langjökull. You can stroll through the nearby cozy town of Borgarnes and drop by the cafe’s, museums, shops and restaurants. Take a drive to the capital Reykjavík with all its glory, nightlife and culture. Make a day trip on the Golden Circle and see the exploding Geysir with all its natural power, and drop by the historic Thingvellir National Park, and view close up the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. In the evenings you will always come back home to this modern architecturally designed house in Helluskógur and probably the first thing you will do is, relax in the hot tub with a glass of red wine and enjoy the Northern Lights in the peace and quietness after a memorable day.
The newer house was built in 2012. It has an open kitchen-living room with a large kitchen island. It is very spacious and ideal for family and friends preparing a good meal together. The kitchen has all necessary tableware and high quality equipment for cooking and baking. The living room has floor to ceiling windows and an amazing view. Even if you are inside it feels like you are still completely connected to nature. In the living room you will find books and magazines to read, films to watch on the large flat screen TV and a piano to play on. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with high quality beds and a beautiful view. The bathroom is spacious with a long wooden countertop and a large shower room.
The design of the house is outstanding and well thought out. It has floor to ceiling windows, open space, hardwood floor, natural stone tiles, designed lighting and with one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly floor heating systems installed in houses today. The heating system is perfect and we can guaranty you a warm and cozy house in the winter time.
The smaller cabin was built in a traditional, Icelandic summerhouse way. It is well constructed and insulated. It is warm and cozy all year round with all necessities and comfort. The house has an open kitchen-living room area. In the kitchen there is all the table ware and equipment you need for cooking, baking, and serving a lovely meal. The living room has a great corner sofa and a large flat screen TV and films to watch. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with great quality beds. Free WIFI.
The houses are only 30 meters apart, connected by a nice walking path. Both houses have large terraces, each with a hot tub that fits up to 7 people, barbecue grill and comfortable outdoor seating. They are perfect for making a good meal and relaxing in the peaceful environment. Beside both houses are grass lawns surrounded by a birch forrest, ideal for kids to play.
Both houses have FREE WIFI, a large flat screen TV, a dishwasher, a washing machine, books, and everything between. See detailed facility and equipment below.
We have been connected to Borgarfjörður since childhood and would like to share good advice and information about the house or the area so don´t hesitate to send us an e-mail request about anything you would like to know about it and we will do our best to help you.

It was our family’s first trip to Iceland and we loved it! The accommodations were great, with plenty of space for us to gather for meals and relaxing together. The houses were very clean and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay.
The host is extremely accessible, responding within minutes when we accidentally locked ourselves out. We highly recommend this property, and would definitely stay here again!

The two houses are beautiful and very well stocked. It was wonderful, having two separate homes, which allowed us to spread out some. there is so much information in the house in order to explore the country. we truly loved our stay and have every intention of going back.

Absolutely perfect .Very much space and clean. Good communication. We will come back, for our next stay in Iceland

One of the best!
Having literally travelled around the world three times, and a fan of VRBO (Turnkey) this is one of the best! GREAT property, GREAT location, and even GREATER hosts - answered all questions quickly making planning a breeze.

This property is gorgeous. We wanted to move in and never leave. The main guest house is beautiful and the guest house was also a perfect addition for our needs, as a group of ten family members who had never been to Iceland before. The hosts communicated with me, as much and as often as I had questions - right from the time of booking. The location is remote and very private, which we really loved. However, if you stay here for a week like we did and expect to try to see as much of Iceland as possible, you are going to do a lot of driving every day. We loved the small town of Borgarnes, and the convenience to spending a day exploring the national park and peninsula. It is over an hour to Reykjavik, and most of the other attractions are a full day trip away from the house. That being said, it was great property for a group of ten to return to at the end of the day, as there was plenty of room to spread out and the kids especially loved the hot tubs. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for your warm hospitality!

A wonderful holiday in a fabulous place
We're a family of 13 ranging from 85yrs to 5 mths. visiting in October/November. We were well catered for in every way. The main house is very modern and airy and very warm, the nearby secondary house, connected by a hidden path, is cosy and comfortable although the mezzanine level bedroom is very low and up a steep ladder, older kids would love it. Able to all eat together in the main house. And the hot tubs were well used !
Iceland is fabulous, amazing scenery wherever you go. We only managed the Pingvellir and Snæfellsjökull national parks and Reykavik. My husband also went diving which was amazing. All in all everybody loved it whatever the age.

Beautiful house!
Lovely house and great location. Very clean and had a great view. 4 adults and 5 kids for comfortably. Only small downside was that there was only 1 bathroom (which was also the laundry room) for several people. Not a big deal, though, and we made it work!

It was amazing. We spent 10 days with our families in both houses. At the peak we were 14 adults and one baby. Then it was really full in the houses but some day we were just 7 adults and one baby. Then it was really comfortable. But even during the week with 15 persons it was really okay. We had a great time on the huge terrace enjoying the evening sun. Some of us also spent some time in the outdoor hot tubs what they really liked. We often cooked for the whole group and everyone found a place to have breakfast and dinner in the main house. So mainly we spent time together in the main house, the guest house we just used for sleeping. It was perfect for our group.
The light that flows through the house the whole day is so beautiful. When you enter the house, you will fall in love with it.
When we had any questions, Heidrun always answered almost immediately. So Heidrun and Robert are great hosts. They prepared a baby crib and a high chair for our daughter. andThe equipment (coffee machine, dish washer, washing machine, dryer etc.) is great.
And the location of the houses in Helluskogur is a dream. You hear the birds singing at night. Sun never really went down during our time at the end of May.
And also for our day trips the location was more than perfect. When you are planning your trip, the brochure Heidrun and Robert wrote, will help you a lot. There is really good advice there.
Thank you for great time in your houses. We really enjoyed it.

Paradise
Tranquility! The house was warm all the time, comfy beds and------ lots of snow. Spacious, marvellous large windows so full of light .Northern lights? Well a faint curtain of palest green light as activity was low.
Made use of the hot tub. A separate toilet would be an improvement when there are 7 in the house but our only criticism Massive towels Wonderful stay

Perfect for our 14 family members!
The 2 houses allowed our family of 14 to be together yet sleep comfortably. Cooking for the group was easy in the well-stocked kitchen (and the coffee maker was awesome and used incessantly!). Heidi was so accommodating for the baby providing a crib, highchair and toys! The homes were everything we expected and the hot tubs were a wonderful end to our adventurous days. It was a perfect location for, us to see the golden circle or Snaefellsness National Park. Groceries, gas and restaurants were 10 minutes away and we loved the secluded, quiet feeling of the houses.
We would absolutely stay here again! It was perfect for our large family.

Perfect house for larger group
We rented the house and guest house property in early June for an extended weekend. We re a group of 14 and it was a perfect fit. The surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for just taking a short hike. Great river is a short walk away. It is a short drive 10-15 minutes to the nearby town of Borgones to pick up groceries. House was in perfect working order (Clean, modern, updated) and easy to get to if using your GPS.

Wonderful
We had a fabulous 4 nights renting both properties as a three generation family celebrating a special birthday. The lovely long table in the main house allowed us all to eat together every evening. The houses are fully equipped, even down to toys for the little ones and, as our stay coincided with Easter, a bowl full of chocolate eggs. Snow on our arrival made it magical and the hot tubs were appreciated after a hard day's sightseeing, especially when the Northern Lights made an appearance. We would love to return, perhaps trying one of your other properties. Thanks .....

Beautiful property and very well equipped.
This was a perfect place to stay for our 2 families of 5. Our 2 groups were all adults and the younger 20somethings all stayed in the cozy cabin but joined us in the main house for meals and socialising. There was plenty of room and we thoroughly enjoyed cooking, hot tub and socialising there. The path between the main house and cabin was extremely slippy. There are puzzles and games and a DVD player with a small selection of films. All in all the properties and location exceeded all our expectations and we would definitely recommend for a short or long stay. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive both before our stay and during. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable holiday. The Bole’s, Harlow’s and Taylor’s from near London, UK.

Amazing location! Wonderful home! Excellent hosts!
Space allowed in these reviews is too limited to say all the great things about this property. We had the most wonderful time, and are already planning a return trip.
Helluskógur 10 is the perfect place for a family or group to stay in Iceland. It is in a quiet location, remote enough to be dark in winter. The surrounding area is extremely beautiful day and night. In late November we saw the Northern Lights, the Milky Way, and meteors every night from the living room window or the hot tub. It is close enough to the town of Borgarnes that there is no problem running out for groceries or other essentials. It is within an hour’s drive of glaciers and mountains, and there is spectacular scenery everywhere. Reykjavík is a beautiful 90-minute drive away, and it was very convenient for us to visit the city for shopping several times during our stay.
The main house is modern and well-equipped, and very comfortable to stay in for up to 7 people. The smaller house is perfect to accommodate additional guests, or for a couple to have some privacy away from the main group. The walk from the smaller house to the main house is short and very easy.
The coffee machine is so convenient. It makes a cup on demand, and everyone enjoyed having coffee immediately available. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to fix breakfast every morning, plus three large family meals over the course of our stay.
The hot tubs were very clean and provided a warm and relaxing location to view the stars and Northern Lights.
The washer and dryer worked very well and were quite convenient to have.
The bedrooms were warm, and the beds were so comfortable that we seemed to sleep longer than intended almost every night.
The owners, Heidi and Robert, are very friendly, flexible, and accommodating. The houses were spotless when we arrived. We had a question or two during the stay, and they responded very quickly via email.
We were sad to leave, but look forward to returning soon!

Elegant and comfortable house, far from the tourist crowd
The main house is a lovely modern space, circled with glass and affording great views. Modern appliances and a bunch of lighting options make the place luxurious. The hot tub under the stars is a terrific feature. The house location is a bit off the road, so recommended if you're looking for solitude. The walk to the Landa River is terrific.
The house in the rear is a bit more rustic, but very clean and comfortable. It doesn't live up to the splendor of the main house, but also has great views.

Beautiful home, perfect location
8 of us stayed for a week and we were all delighted with the houses: both are lovely and well-equipped. We loved the hot tubs and used them every day! The location is perfect, being just a hour from Reykjavik and the amazing Snaefellsness peninsula (a must-see), not to mention convenient to Borgarnes. We went horse riding (only a few miles away) and loved the tour-guide, Hawk the Beard, Heidi recommended to us. Speaking of Heidi, I've been renting homes online for 10 years and she was the most organized and responsive owner I've ever dealt with. Really amazing. In short, if you're looking for a place on the west-coast of Iceland, you can't go wrong with this one!

Beautiful, relaxing retreat
Our family of 8 adults recently spent two nights at this beautiful property. After several days driving, hiking and exploring in southern Iceland and the Golden Circle area this was just what we needed to recharge. We rented both the main house and the guest house but the whole family was drawn to the open kitchen/living room in the main house. Preparing meals was a pleasure in the well equipped kitchen and even those who chose instead to soak in the hot tub were not too far away from the action and conversation. The blackout curtains in the bedrooms were a nice touch, but I couldn't resist peeking out on our last morning to watch the sunrise over the beautiful landscape. The property was also conveniently located for a day trip to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Beginning with my initial inquiry last fall, Heidi was incredibly responsive, with nearly instantaneous replies. She provided thorough information on the house (including visual instructions for all the appliances) as well as info on recreation, shopping and cultural attractions. The only thing that would have improved our experience would have been more time to explore it all!

Amazing house, perfectly off the beaten path.
We loved the area and had a magical drive to the house arriving around 2am - Iceland time. It felt like we were the only people in the country. After a couple hours of sleep we walked down the road to admire the beautiful Langa River - it's saphire blue color a striking contrast to the purple lupine dotting the banks of the river. We especially liked how we could all be together in a house-enjoying our time togther.. no tourists anywhere in sight...yet only a scenic drive away from the most spectacular sights I have ever encountered. We continued to get off the beaten path and took smaller roads through the mountains to Thinglevir, Geysir, Gulfoss, dinner in Reykjavik and back home to Borgarnes. A long, but perfect day! Another trip to Snaefellness netted equally special memories. Hit the road early and you can beat some of the busses out of Reykjavik!! We managed to arruve at a waterfall and hiked to the top before anyone else arrived. By 9 you are following the tour busses but it is manageable. After days of driving, Borgarnes offered just the right amount of history, museums, sculptures, churches and coffee shops to balance out a day hopping between the comforts of our home base and sightseeing,. I would absolutely recommend this rental. If you rent both spots the path between the houses is magical, where you keep hoping a fairy will present itself at any moment...of note - pass the road to turn for the main house and turn at the next dirt road to drop off luggage (or have you kids drag it down previously mentioned path.) Heidi was helpful and easy to communicate with. 5 stars!

Fantastic properties in an idyllic setting
We had a fantastic stay in these two beautiful houses. We were lucky enough to stay over Christmas for 4 nights. We visited Iceland with family in the hope of having a white Christmas and Iceland did not disappoint.
Unfortunately we arrived later than planned due to flight delays and following a 2hr drive in blizzard conditions finally found the main house using Heidrun's very helpful directions. The main house is stunning and everyone was wowed by it upon arrival. We let our parents stay in the main house while the younger adults (all in their 30s) had the guest house. The main house is larger than it looks in the pictures and easily accommodated the 9 of us for meals and relaxing in. It has a great bathroom, spacious bedrooms and a great open plan area for everyone to gather, not to mention a brilliant coffee machine! The guest house was ideal, and also had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Both houses had all the mod cons you could need and good wifi access. Both hot tubs were well utilised and there was nothing better than sitting in them with a drink in our hands as the snow came down.
Heidrun was really helpful and when we had issues with one of our hire cars, and the hire car company weren't much help Heidrun managed to organise some jump leads to borrow on Boxing day. Which meant we were able to visit the local waterfalls and caves an hour away.
We had a fantastic stay, the only downside was unfortunately we didn't get to see the Northern Lights - apparently they had been visible in the area the night before we arrived - but such is life and it gives us the perfect excuse to visit Iceland again!
We found Heidrun very helpful and quick to respond to our messages. We fell in love with the houses and their location, there was something very special about it all and we miss it very much.

Wonderful Stay in West Iceland
The house was very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The guesthouse was perfect for my wife and I while our daughter and her family stayed in the house. The location was peaceful, quiet, and within easy driving distance of everything we wanted to see in West Iceland. It was far enough away from city lights for us to enjoy a spectacular Northern Lights show for over an hour on our first night.
The owner was very accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We would certainly recommend the property to any of our friends planning a trip to Iceland and look forward to staying there again.

Gorgeous place and great location
Loved the house and cabin too! Great base camp for area explorations. Our only difficulty was the stove and microwave as we dont have these types in Canada but owners were so patient with our questions and Rob was very interesting to talk to!
Would stay here again for sure.

A truly excellent property in a beautiful location and fantastically managed
We rented both properties for our group of 12 for one week and were absolutely delighted.
Heidi and Rob were amazing from day one. We first inquired 12 months prior to our visit and they were extremely helpful and patient with my never ending questions, answers to which were sometimes only seconds away. Advice from key sights to the best supermarkets was freely given and so very valuable.
The houses are stunning. The smaller older property is quaint and practical, the new property (that I believe has been, at least in part, built with Rob and Heidi's own two hands) is stunning. They are close together and in a beautiful and peaceful area a little off the beaten track. Although being a little more remote we were still able to access the main sights easily. Driving in this stunning scenery was never a problem, in fact it was a privilege!
There are plenty of sights to see and walks to do. We traveled inland towards Gullfoss (the falls), down to Reykjavik and up towards Snæfellsjökull. I have to say 'towards' because in two cases the snow forced us to turn around when we were very close, which was a shame. We shall just have to come back :-), which will be a joy. Our trip to Reykjavic for the new years eve fireworks was AMAZING. You just have to see it to believe it. I love fireworks and have done complex and large displays myself but I have never seen anything like this. In reality the whole city goes bang from 11:35. it builds to a crescendo at 12:00 (mind blowing in sight and sound) and goes on, and on.
Returning to the house or staying put for relaxing days was always a joy. The hot tubs were heavily used, relaxing with snow all around, a drink in one hand, watching the night's sky was amazing! (we did get the northern lights one night). Rob and Heidi's attention to detail is impressive. The guide books you get when booking (directions and operational manuals) is the best we have ever seen and made life a breeze.
The local town, Borgarnes, has good supermarkets and great coffee shops and the Settlement Center (museum) has a lovely restaurant. There is also a local bakery made famous in the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller), Hollywood thought the scenery so amazing they filmed it (although the bakery became a pizza joint..)
We were all really impressed with the properties and the owners.
We can't recommend this enough and we would love to go back!
Don't wait. BOOK this property now or we might get there before you.

awesome
Absolutely wonderful. Both warm and inviting. One house traditional whilst the other was ultra modern but still cozy. Sleeping for 8 in each house was fine if you are looking for a large group with a path between the houses. Hot tubs were lush with fantastic views of snowy mountains. Would highly recommend.

High quality well equipped house
The house was in a great location, exceptionally well equipped, warm and comfortable. The hot tub was a great place to watch for the aurora. The owners were very helpful when we were struggling to get car hire due to the weather conditions. Highly recommended
