About this villa rental
Perched on the edge of a remote coral atoll, Sand So Sea offers an exceptional getaway on Great Guana Cay, an outer island of the Grand Abacos. This hand-crafted Bahamian villa is situated on a bluff providing spectacular views of the turquoise stretches of the Bay of Abaco, Scotland Cay, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The house itself is 2800 square feet comprised of three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, each with it's own independent entrance, indoor and outdoor living/dining areas, a bedroom and bathroom. With natural wood finishes, custom cabinets, and marine grade fittings, the space is like a "ship on land" and has been crafted for comfort and efficiency. We have an automatic generator that runs all the functions of the house in case there is loss of power.
The wrap around deck effectively doubles the living space, with 300 degree views of water, stretching from the Bay of Abaco on the west all the way to the Atlantic Ocean to the immediate east. From the deck, enjoy dazzling sunrises each morning, and from the dock, flaming sunsets over the bay.
Great Guana Cay's miles of white powder beaches begin just a few minutes walk from Sand So Sea, and are so isolated that often the only footsteps in the sand will be yours. Additionally, there are both inner and outer coral reefs that run the length of Guana Cay. If you love snorkeling, swimming, diving, kayaking, boating or fishing, all of it is accessible by foot, golf cart, boat or kayak.
The settlement of Great Guana is located about 2 miles west of the house. A tiny outcropping with a population of under 200 people, the settlement hugs Guana Harbour and has a grocery, rental agencies for boats and tours, and several restaurants boasting colorful beach bars.
This is a unique property and we hope you will find, as we do, that it is a shatteringly beautiful place and that it will provide you with the getaway of a lifetime.
Please note that we book up to a year in advance, but reserve the right to defer beyond that, as rates may need to change from year to year.

Best VRBO we’ve ever stayed.

You are literally perched up high at a point at the end of the island with endless views of water everywhere. The home is exquisite with incredibly fine appointments, including luxurious sheets and spreads. The outdoor space is amazing and if that wasn’t enough, we were traveling by boat and Dana, the owner, handled all the last minute logistics for us which was huge. Big thank you!

We had the most amazing time with our family, the views were spectacular. The home is exquisite. We have never stayed in such a nice property on such a gorgeous island.

I cannot say enough nice things about our experience. Dana was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our trip was amazing. She communicated with us before and during our stay. The house was beautiful, well stocked and perfectly clean. The views are as good or better as shown in the pictures. Truly breathtaking!

We had the loveliest time at Sand So Sea over the Christmas Holiday week. My husband and our 4 adult children stayed to celebrate our daughter’s college graduation and the Christmas holiday. The property and home were stunning and the views cannot be matched. Our host, Dana, was amazing! Responsive and accommodating, she thought of everything and took fantastic care to assure our experience was fantastic. We will be back!

This was our first stay on Guana. The house and grounds were extremely well kept and in working order. Host and crew took very good care of us! Location of house is private (which we prefer) but town is a short ride away. The house has spectacular views of the Atlantic and Scotland Lagoon. I would highly recommend this property!

Paradise
This was our second trip to Dolphin Lookout for my husband and I. We went last July for only 1 week and thought it wasn't long enough so this trip we stayed for almost 2 weeks and think this trip was even better than the last. The views from Dolphin Lookout are simply breathtaking. We enjoyed sitting in the chairs under the palm tree enjoying morning coffee. We swam and snorkeled from the lagoon side where we saw barracuda, Angel fish and a very large shark (we didn't stay in the water to find out what kind it was it was probably 6') We watched the sunset from the dock most nights and swam there too. We say a few manta rays from the dock. We kayaked in the lagoon 3 days seeing many fish, shark, rays and turtles. Snorkeled under the neighbors dock and the sunken tree and the fish were plentiful. Just like swimming in an aquarium. We rented a boat from Troy at Dive Guana for 3 days to Island hop and to do some snorkeling. We even went out with him on a dive trip to Fowl Cay and met people from Kansas and Oklahoma. It was a great trip and would recommend anyone to go out with him if they have the opportunity. Jack was amazing to work with to ensure we had everything we needed. Our trip was beautiful, relaxing and just want we needed to rejuvenate ourselves to our work life. We are making the Abaco's a yearly trip. Unfortunately our next visit will not be at Dolphin Lookout only because we are bringing friends to enjoy in Paradise with us. Thank you for sharing your little piece of Heaven on Earth with us.

What a fantastic week!!! Didn't miss a TV once. Quiet seclusion at Dolphin Lookout. The house was a private getaway for us. The amenities were nice, the history and information impressive.
Being off the beaten path had tons of advantages. Empty beaches, tons of exploring and relaxation as waves crashed into the coral. Drives to town were full of fully blooming tropical plants and trees. The people on island were friendly at every step. Gina and Ronald were an awesome resource for "what to do" and "where to go" on the island.
Travel between islands was easy. Book your guides early or risk not being able to fish offshore. Boat rental is easy and affordable.
Ben and Cathy, Thank you so much for sharing Dolphin Lookout with us. It's a great place for two people to escape to, relax and recharge.

Once again, perfect for us
This was our third consecutive year visiting Dolphin Lookout, although last year we were, generously, day visitors, as DL's owner, Ben, was in residence. There is nothing to add regarding the view; it is beyond compare. As always, all of the nearby beaches are beautiful, the snorkeling amazing and the cottage comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen is equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals. We love the secluded nature of the property, listening to the surf, particularly with easterly winds, and exploring all the paths Ben has created both to the Atlantic and Scotland Lagoon. The Cay itself is small, quiet and friendly. We've met some great people and had interesting conversations with owners, renters, workers and residents. We'll be back. Thanx, Ben, for sharing this magical place with us.

Heaven on Earth!!!
We loved our stay at Ben's sweet beach house on Great Guana Cay! The views are breathe-taking....what a special place to spend your vacation. The house is very comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. We cooked our breakfasts and dinners at the house, which made our stay very relaxing. The sunsets from the bay side on the private dock were spectacular and my husband also fished from the dock and caught a handful of fish. We walked all of the private beach areas, which are beautiful and found the locals to be very friendly. The care-takers were very welcoming and answered all of our questions. We will come back some day to heaven on earth!

Best of both worlds!
We had such an amazing time at Dolphin Lookout. We walked the length of Ocean Beach from the Lookout, snorkelled both from the dock and Cay Sera Beach, caught snapper from the dock where we also saw a very large shark, a barracuda, a turtle and a big blue fish that we think was a tang. We enjoyed every sunset from the dock and sat for ages watching the waves crash in on the ocean side, particularly spectacular as we had some high winds. And then at night we were lulled to sleep to the sound of the ocean just beyond the window.
The property could be known as Best of Both Worlds as, unlike other properties in the area it affords the opportunity to enjoy both sides of the island in complete privacy. This means that if the wind is blowing on the ocean side the Abaco side is sheltered and vice versa. Or, regardless of conditions, it simply provides for a greater range of experiences.
The owners sent us very comprehensive information about the accommodation and the locality before we embarked on our trip to which we referred again and again throughout our stay. This reflects the affection that they themselves have for the place which in turn is mirrored in the attention to detail and the cosiness and comfort inside the house.
It was, indeed, all truly magical.

We stayed at Dolphin Lookout for our honeymoon after getting married on the beach just down the road. The views were beautiful day and night. We could not have asked for a more romantic place.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Dolphin Lookout. Words cannot describe the serenity and peacefulness as you watch the ocean during the day and listen to the surf at night. It was hard to read and not take in the passage between Scotland Cay and the "bluewater" outside the reef. The cottage's kitchen had everything one needs for meal preparation. Excellent selection of dinner and cookware to satisfy your gastronomical desires. The Settlement also offers great lunch options, especially Grabber's. We re-connected with staff members from previous visits who made us feel welcome and appreciated. Looking forward to our next visit!

Meticulously kept, quaint cottage with the most beautiful views I have ever seen! My husband and I were able to just relax and step away from daily stresses. The simple life. This is what Dolphin Lookout is all about! Highly recommend and would definately go back!

Thanks Kathy and Ben for sharing your lovely cottage with us. We had a wonderful trip!

Dream come true!
My husband and I found this house on VRBO about 5 years ago and it has been our dream so when my husband retired we decided it was time to make it a reality. It was even better than we had anticipated. The views are amazing and the home is immaculate. It had everything we needed and Gina even brought us a fishing pole.We loved the privacy and the drive in the golf cart.was one of our favorite parts. The snorkeling was great. It truly was a great stay and we will definitely stay again.

Fantastic as always
We've been several times and the view off the porch never ceases to amaze us. As usual, Ben's house was clean, comfortable and stocked with necessities. The wifi worked perfectly and the power stayed on the whole week so we didn't have to use the generator. We had some great snorkeling in Scotland Bay and at Caysera (see Ben's guidebook for snorkeling excursions). The snorkeling off the dock wasn't as good as it had been on prior visits but we may have just hit a couple of off days. We loved the new restaurant Mermaids and highly recommend it for dinner (they don't open until 4:30 and I think they're closed on Monday and Tuesday). Cheesy name but good food and excellent view off the deck. We rented a boat from Troy at Dive Guana and didn't really care for it - very slow and burned through fuel like crazy so it was expensive. We've had better boats from Water Ways and Conch Pearl and they will pick you up in Marsh Harbour to go get the boat so you don't have to bother with the ferry schedule. Note to Central Floridians re flights: We used to use Air Gate out of New Smyrna and they're awesome, but now that we've flown several times with Air Unlimited we feel comfortable recommending them as well, particularly since they are just using the King Airs for Abaco charters now. We've had very good experiences with them. Happy Traveling! And thank you to Ben and Cathy for providing such a wonderful home!! :)

This is a very wonderful and special place - - - But
Our recent stay at the Dolphin Lookout was the third time we have been there. It is truly a magical place for those who are looking for complete privacy and amazing views. It accommodates only a couple but I can't imagine a more romantic and peaceful place. The "but" I refer has nothing to do with the place itself but rather the power source for the whole area of islands. The power was on only intermittently for the whole time we were there. For us this wasn't a big issue because there is a generator that supplies power for most of the house. It does not, however, run the electric range for cooking. That didn't bother us very much since there is a propane barbecue there and great places to eat down in the village. The area does have to get their power issues fixed though.

Paradise Revisited
My wife and I spent the Christmas and New Years holidays at Dolphin Lookout and had an incredible time, this is our third time renting this property and it always is immaculate! We have travelled all over the world and this island and Dolphin Lookout in particular feel like home, the views, the cleanliness, and peaceful setting are the perfect way to rejuvenate for the new year! We absolutely love Dolphin Lookout and have already scheduled our next trip, we can’t wait to get back to this secluded island paradise!

Breathtaking seclusion
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 9 night stay at this charming property. It’s exactly as described by the owners, and we enthusiastically echo all the positive comments from other visitors. We experienced the seclusion we were longing for, and enjoyed the ravishing views from the wraparound porch as well as all windows. Sunrises were a particular treat, as were the double rainbows over the Atlantic. We also enjoyed lingering on the impressive boat dock and there experienced the best sunset ever. I wish I could share some photos here.... Thank you, Ben and Cathy, for providing such extensive information in your thoughtful booklet. We felt very well prepared for our stay. I should also mention that the home is clean and appealing, the bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen provides you with everything you need. The caretakers are responsive and courteous. Dolphin Point Lookout is a marvelous place, and we would return in a heartbeat.

Stunningly beautiful place
We loved everything about it. The complete privacy, the beautiful view, the quaint town, the hopping bar, the friendly locals, the excellent snorkeling off the beach, the ease of getting there, and the fantastic job the owners do of making sure you are prepared for the stay. Top notch! Would recommend to anyone!

Wonderful time at Dolphin Lookout
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Dolphin Lookout. The setting was beautiful and we could have stayed on the deck all day watching the changing view of the water all around. The house had everything we needed for a relaxing stay--no detail was overlooked. We hope to return again to enjoy the house and the great escape that is Great Guana Cay!

We had a very relaxing stay at Dolphin Lookout. The property is exactly as described in the many reviews we read before booking - it has an outstanding location at the Southern tip of Guana Cay, looking over to Scotland Cay, with fabulous views from the deck. The property itself is small, more like a studio apartment, but as spacious as a nice hotel suite. And there is plenty of space on the deck to just sit/lie down and chill. We tended to eat out at lunch time and relax at Dolphin Lookout in the evenings, and take a night cap sitting under a palm tree and marvel at the night sky (tip: use starwalker app or similar on ipad to see what all those constellations are). Our strategy of staying home paid off on new year's eve, when the beach on Scotland Cay hosted an elaborate 20-minute firework display at 9pm. They must be a family friendly lot on that private island to have the fireworks so early, and we were certainly grateful for what felt like a show put on just for us at Dolphin Lookout! We enjoyed leaving the blinds open and waking up to glorious dawn skies. Our pilates teacher would have been proud of us as every day we strolled down to the boat dock and did our "boat dock" pilates session - always on the look out for Bob the Barracuda, who often turned up as we arrived. The restaurants are not outstanding, nor should they be when you consider the constraints of island life, but we were not disappointed. We particularly enjoyed eating at Orchid Bay. I would say they had the best and friendliest service and the verandah is lovely to sit on and watch all the boating activity as you dine. The wifi worked very well, and we put it to good use, not for browsing, but for listening to Spotify using the aux cable connected to the mini hi-fi system. We also had a few movie nights on Netflix and again used the aux cable, to deliver a nice surround-sound experience. It's certainly a good idea to buy groceries at Marsh Harbor as the local store is very limited but does have all the basics. But the best place to buy dinner is straight from the dock near the liquor store. We didn't have enough cash one day and the the local ATM was closed for business (i.e. Grabbers) - but we were able to buy some nice large cray fish tails for $6 and three bottles of local beer! Our favourite activity was just to relax and enjoy the stunning Cay Sera beach where we hardly saw another soul. A fabulous escape.

This was our second time staying at Dolphin Lookout and it was every bit as lovely as the first.
Our first visit included a large family group scattered in different homes on the island for my husband's 50th in July 2015. This was a very different visit and so nice, just the two of us. We spent lots of time reading on the front deck surrounded by the most gorgeous views I've encountered. It's so private and detached from everything while only a fun cart ride into the settlement and Nippers :)!
Caysera Beach is not only a beautiful, private beach but the snorkeling is awesome with a reef right off the beach. Being able to snorkel in December without a wet suit was a nice surprise!
Lots of walks on the little poured cement stepping stones to watch the waves crash against the rocks. It was mesmerizing. The small clearing at the edge of the southeast part of the property, where the adirondack chairs sit, is a perfect spot to check out the stars on a clear evening.
There are a couple of little trails besides the one leading to the dock that offer different views of the water and are worth checking out.
We joined the golf cart parade and had a ball with other locals, all dressed in their ugly sweaters and decked out carts. It ended, after several stops, at Nipper's for live music and incredible fireworks on the beach. I would highly suggest going over the Holidays but not next Christmas and New Years' Eve as we just booked it, sorry!!
I was happy to see the large barracuda still lives under the dock. We did not kayak this time, but if the winds are coming out of the right direction, kayaking is a must-do. They have all the equipment you need for a day on the beach or on the kayaks.
Dolphin Lookout is immaculately kept and they have basically everything you need there. The people on this island are lovely. We made several new friends :).
We counted in our heads about 18 islands we've visited over the years from the South pacific, and through all of the Caribbean; this is our favorite spot!

We cannot say enough about Dolphin Lookout! We spent a week there and were amazed every single day - not just by the beautiful scenery (as expected in the Abacos!) but by the location, privacy, and amazing craftsmanship of Dolphin Lookout. The house is incredibly well built and maintained. It takes a number of days to find and appreciate all the details that goes into this home and the care that is taken in keeping it up. From our booking, to preparation for trip, to arrival and the assistance of Gina as host, to cooperation with travel delays due to weather - the experience was first class and exceptional. This is the pinnacle of what rental by owner aims to deliver - Bravo!!
The seclusion of Dolphin Lookout provides complete privacy, unmatched and breath taking beauty, and relaxation at a level that is only believed through experiencing it. Being on the tip of the Great Guana Cay provides access to both the deeper ocean and Sea of Abaco access while still allowing access to the town of Guana Cay and the ability to explore the island. The Guide to Dolphin Lookout provided once booked lists important information that makes preparation easier and provides excursion suggestions to get you started on discovering the island and all its secret spots of beauty.
We will, without a doubt, be planning a return trip very soon. If you are looking for beautiful island scenery, complete privacy, and relaxation then we cannot recommend Dolphin Lookout enough.
Thank you so much for sharing your spot of paradise with us!!!!

Cozy second story cottage-for-two on the very South end of Great Guana Cay with a fabulous 270 degree unobstructed view of unimaginably turquoise tropical waters. You won’t find a better deck view and atmosphere for relaxing with your morning coffee, or chillin in the evening with your favorite wine, beer or cocktail reminiscing about your days adventures. Inside the cottage you will find a super-comfortable queen size bed located next to a large screened window where you will quickly learn to love falling asleep and awaking to gentle sea breezes and the sound of rhythmic crashing waves. Heavenly. The full size kitchen is equipped with everything you may need if you opt for an intimate candlelight diner for two. The cottage is accessible only by golf cart and is hundreds of yards from the closest neighboring beach house, so if you are looking for privacy, this is the place for you. Within a short golf cart ride is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, with marshmallow soft sand, picture perfect views, and usually no one else on the beach but you. And yes, wifi service in the cottage works well if you feel compelled to share photos with friends. If there is a heaven on earth, this may be it!

My husband and I just got back from a week at Dolphin Lookout! It was the perfect place for us! Charming, quiet, and clean on the inside, and great views and adventure on the outside. We had everything we needed for a wonderful week. The Atlantic was too rough for snorkeling while we were there, but the Sea of Abaco (just down the path with a private dock) was perfect--it was calm and there was lots to see with very easy access! If we had been staying almost anywhere else, my husband would've been very disappointed with not being able to snorkel. So, thank you Ben, the place is exactly as you say it is! We loved it!

Words cannot begin to describe our experience. It was quiet, beautiful, and simply paradise. The view from anywhere in the house was fantastic.
Ben sent us great checklists so we knew what do to to prepare for the trip and everything worked out great. The caretakers met us at the ferry and made sure we had everything we needed.
If you have a chance to stay at Dolphin Lookout, do it!

If you are wanting a getaway vacation away from the hustle and bustle of busy life then this is it! The owners have created a spectacular home away from home. The views of the ocean and surrounding islands are second to none and the wrap around deck is perfect for your evening drinks or morning coffee. The gentle ocean breeze and rustle of nearby palm trees truly provided a most relaxing and calm environment. Even for a one bedroom house it felt so expansive given the large decking area and endless views. The owners have paid great attention to detail of the interior with sailing/nautical decor which was timeless.
We couldn't fault this place at all and we'd love to come back. Many thanks for a truly wonderful time.

Hello Ben,
We had a tremendous time celebrating our 25th anniversary on Guana Cay at Dolphin Lookout. What a unique place. We can't wait to return. We would like to share some of our favorite things about our trip:
+Coffee every morning on the Adirondack chairs under "perfectly placed" palm trees overlooking the ocean and Scotland Bay.
+Sunsets every evening from the dock on the Sea of Abaco. "Bob" the barracuda seemed to enjoy hanging out under the dock just before sunset.
+Caysera Beach. The whitest sand and clearest water that we have ever seen. Our beach umbrella was the only umbrella on the beach. Our footprints were the only footprints in the sand.
+The cool pathways from Dolphin Lookout to the ocean and bay.
+The Views! "WOW"
+We had a great time kayaking around the dock and in Scotland Bay.
+The golf cart rides to and from the cottage added an additional sense of adventure to the trip.
+Good fresh fish at Kidds Cove in the settlement on the harbor. We actually watched the boat come into the harbor with the catch of the day. We had to wait until the fish were cleaned, but the dinner was well worth the wait(grouper and wahu).
+Good dinner at Fishtails on the harbor. Neat sports bar atmosphere.
+Sunsets at Graebbers.
+Dolphin Lookout cottage was good in every way. We don't know anything we would change.
+Gina & Ronald, Caretakers. Gina met us at the dock upon our arrival and had our golf cart ready for us. We simply loaded our bags and were off. Gina and Ronald did a great job.
+The Knowles taxi service in Marsh Harbour(Joe & Susan). Per the recommendation provided in your guide, we called Joe and let him know our flight information. When we arrived, he was waiting for us at Marsh Harbour Airport. Joe's wife Susan greeted us with a hug. Joe took us to Maxwells for shopping and then returned an hour later to take us to the ferry. He kept our bags while we shopped. Only charged $25. We called Joe the day before our departure and let him know our flight information. Susan met our ferry at the dock and took us back to the airport. Only charged $15.
+Orchid Bay. Gated community. We felt very safe.
We are already thinking of our return trip.
Thanks again,
Doug and Becky
