About this house rental
"Island Sounds" is a 3 bed 31/2 bath home located on beautiful Dauphin Island, Alabama which is a 14 mile long barrier island located between Mobile Bay, Mississippi Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. This island is a place where the locals are laid back and the visitors and guests enjoy great fun fishing, boating, playing on the sugar white sand beaches, swimming, bicycling, kayaking and eating some great fresh local seafood.
This home features all new appliances, granite countertops and new decks. There is also an outdoor shower, extra bathroom (#4) and refrigerator under the house. It is steps away from Mississippi Sound which is full of flounder, speckled trout, crabs, shrimp and more. The beach at Mississippi Sound (3 min. walk from house) is beautiful and great for kids with shallow water. The Gulf of Mexico is a 5 to 6 min. walk with beautiful sugar white beaches and unlimited fun in the sun. The sunsets are absolutely beautiful as anywhere in the world. The "Island Sounds" is located on a canal leading to the Mississippi Sound, Mobile Bay and Gulf of Mexico. You can even bring your boat and dock it in the canal at the home. You can also fish and crab from the dock at the house. We have a green underwater light to attract speckle trout and other species at night and we also provide crab traps for your use! There is a nice shady area under the house for grilling and relaxing. The home has 3 flat screen TV's, a Blue Ray DVD player and Bluetooth speaker sound bar for your enjoyment. Also, free, password protected internet service is provided.
We now have a 6 passenger golf cart for rental at an additional charge. The cart is very nice and is a great way to go to the beach and explore the island. It is street legal and would be a great enhancement to your stay. More details are available after your booking of the home.
There is so much to do on the island.
Sand Island is nearby and is one of the most popular destinations for our boating guests for fun and relaxation. Fishing, water sports, collecting sea shells or just sitting in the water with a cool refreshment is the order of the day there.
Or you can just head to one of the many public or semi-private beaches on the island. Bring your beach chairs, umbrella, sunscreen, fishing pole(s) and refreshments and enjoy the sun, surf and sand. Did someone say sandcastles and seashells?
You can also charter most any size boat for fishing, cruising, dolphin watching, etc. And you can also rent pontoon boats at the Dauphin Island Marina.
We might also suggest a visit to the DI Sea Lab and Estuarium. Great for the entire family. Don't miss it. There is also 200 year old Fort Gaines, a Civil War fort that is full of history. Remember, Admiral Farragut's famous quote, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"? It happened here!
Don't miss the bird sanctuary which is a great place to stroll, hang out and look for many interesting birds and wildlife. And the nearby "Indian Mounds" is a great place to visit, be close to nature and look for birds and interesting creatures.
There is also the old "Little Red School House" which has been remodeled and is now a great community center complete with much history. It has free internet, computers and a huge lending library for the kids as well as the grown-ups. A must stop for information and fun as you explore the island.
There is also a golf course, tennis courts, beach, pool and family friendly bar at the Isle Dauphine Golf Club. As island guests, you are welcome to enjoy these amenities (they charge a small fee). They also have a great restaurant there (Pirates's Bar & Grill) with great breakfasts, lunches and dinners along with a beautiful view of the sand dunes and Gulf. There are also a few other terrific restaurants on the island, all with great local. fresh seafood for your enjoyment Capt'n Snapper's, Dority's, Islanders, Pelican Pub, and a few more. Or you can purchase some local shrimp and seafood at Skinner's Seafood on the island and cook it up for yourself or they will gladly steam if for you while you wait. There are also several ice cream and snow cone spots for the little ones, or not so little ones!
The West End of the island is where you'll find a large public beach with air conditioned restrooms, snacks, drinks and endless sand and surf. On most weekends they have outdoor movies (Friday nights) and music (bring your beach chairs!). (NOTE: The west end may be under repair due to the hurricanes last season.)
There is also a public beach on the East end of the island adjacent to historic Fort Gaines. There are also several public beaches up and down the boulevard and a huge beach near the center of the island by the red school.
Don't miss the many interesting shops on Dauphin Island and you can even grab a bite at the Lighthouse Bakery.
You may also want to venture just north of the island at the base of the bridge to the enormous fishing pier. There you may catch white trout, speckle trout, flounder and croaker and many others. It is fun anytime but it is really special at night under the lights (small fee).
For your convenience, there is a full grocery store including a deli/bakery about 10 miles north of the island. It is called Greer's Old Bay Market and they will have everything you need to stock up your home for your stay. Greer's also has a full ACE Hardware store adjacent to the grocery store. And they also have fuel including marine fuel if you need this for your boat. Greer's is located on Dauphin Island Parkway (Highway 163) and is right on your way to the island. Don't miss it! For your GPS....10835 Dauphin Island Parkway, Theodore, Alabama

This rental has everything you could need to cook, sleep well, go to the beach, and enjoy the canals. We stayed for a week and would have moved in if we could have! Plenty of space for 6 adults and 3 kids, making a true family reunion possible!

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Island Sounds!!! The owner and manager were both so helpful and very responsive! We loved the location, the property was perfect for our family!! They had a little things like toilet paper, laundry detergent, soap, coffee, spices and such to get you started. And the complimentary wine was a sweet extra touch! Plus extra boards and wagon for the beach. We would absolutely love to stay again!!

We had a great time! The house was clean and well stocked with dishes, cookware and utensils. The complimentary wine and cold bottled water was a super nice surprise! It would be nice to have a few more larger bowls/ dishes to keep leftovers in. House is just a few minutes walk from the beach and they have a wagon to help carry chairs, etc. Only complaint is that yard needed to be mowed and/or trimmed and just a note to renters: bring extra toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, soap and trash bags if staying for a week and have several people. Overall, we had a great time! Neighbors were friendly.

Lots of space & beautifully decorated. It's location on the island was convenient. The back deck was a fabulous area to just chill. Our favorite by far was the fishing dock out back. Walking right out & taking the kids to fish at night by the green light was perfect! We made some wonderful memories!

The location was good and we love Dauphin Island. The first thing we fixed was the master bathroom toilet. Tried to fix the sink which just ran but couldn't so notified the property manager who did get right back to us and promised to send a plumber. He finally showed up 5 days later and told us he was going to get a part and would be back in 15 mins. We never saw him again. The washer and foot wash run only scalding hot water and the outside shower and fridge don't work at all. We also had issues with the stove, microwave and dishwasher, none of which the plumber could fix. We also asked him about the suspicious black spot on the main bathroom ceiling and were told the upstairs shower was probably leaking. All in all, did not get our money's worth on this one.

We stayed here for a few days with 8 people (4 adults and 4 kids ages 2-9) and had a great time! The house has plenty of room for everyone and we loved the back patio area! We spent most of the evenings just sitting on the back patio. The owner was friendly and responsive and made everything easy and seamless. Great experience and we will definitely be back!

If you are visiting Dauphin Island this summer, make sure you bring food with you. A lot of the restaurants were having supply chain issues due to the pandemic I think along with employee shortages and increased demand. Also, many of the restaurants are closed on Monday and Tuesday. The restaurants we were able to eat at were pretty good. We really enjoyed Dority’s! I just recommend having a backup plan. The house was nice. The back deck was wonderful. The gulf beach was gorgeous. The beach on the Mississippi Sound side was really calm but the sand was rougher so water shoes are a plus. We visited the aquarium which I would skip next time. The Little Red Schoolhouse had a nice little museum and really friendly ladies there to tell us about the island. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

Delightful little cottage
We loved our stay in Dauphin Island. The back porch was on a canal where you could fish and/or trap crabs to eat. A short walk in any direction will bring you to a small beach on the bay or on the ocean. We were often the only people on the bay beaches. The house was well appointed to cover all our cooking needs. They even left us a bottle of wine which was an especially nice touch. Thank you.

House Rental on Bay Canal
We had a great time! House was great and Candice/Robert were easy to reach for minor issues. Outside deck was the best spot and the most comfortable! Somethings to know - only 1 of 2 bdrms on the main floor has a TV. The upstairs has a queen and single outside of the master bdrm but all share the same bathroom (and only 1 TV in the master). Small bathrooms but great showers. Internet was slow (but think this was an island thing). For those bringing a boat the parking is tight and the street can be a challenge to maneuver.
