About this house rental
Welcome to “Hoot Mon” Lake House! Hoot Mon Lake House is located in North Windham, Maine, an easy 30 minute drive from Portland International Jetport (PWM) and about 2 hours and 15 minutes north of Boston. Four generations of our family have spent countless summer days lounging on the beach, playing in the water and enjoying the incredible sunsets here on Sebago Basin. The Basin is a smaller outlet of Sebago Lake (connected to the larger lake by a boat-friendly passage under a bridge.) The lake is dotted with islands at the south end and home to many loons and painted turtles. Our lake house is at the end of a small lane and about ten steps from the beach. Our road is a dead end with other camps on it and is therefore a quiet and neighborly little community.
Hoot Mon has three floors and two full bathrooms. There are two private bedrooms. The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and an in-suite full bathroom with a stand up shower. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and access to the second full bathroom (also with a stand up shower) through a large walk in closet. There is also a queen-sized pull-out couch upstairs. Both bedrooms have closets and dressers for your use.
The kitchen is part of an open floor plan and flows into the dining/living space with tons of windows and a panoramic view of the lake. The view is spectacular! The basement is a perfect place to hang in the evening, play a game, watch a movie, do a puzzle and relax! “Charlie’s pub” (named for our grandfather who built the house) is the main attraction down in the basement. There is also a utility room in the back with a washer/drier you are welcome to use.
Outside, the private neighborhood beach is just a few steps away. We have beach chairs and towels for your use! We also have a picnic table and grill outside so your family can enjoy the beautiful Maine evenings. There is also a small porch on the front of the house, facing the lake, which is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing evening and watch the sunset.
North Windham has lots of shopping and eating options, including Hannaford’s, Shaw’s and Walmart, which are all one mile up the street. There are many family fun activities in town as well! On Saturdays there is a farmers market in town and we are happy to recommend spots for eating and ordering takeout - whether you are looking for something close by or are up for more of an adventure, we have lots of favorite spots!
Cleaning procedures are in accordance with CDCs guidelines (you’ll receive a welcome letter when you book which outlines our cleaning procedures.) We’re simplifying the dishes & supplies in the kitchen. There will still be enough dishes for cooking & eating, however this means that if you want to use spices & oils etc for cooking you’ll have to provide that for yourself.

This cottage is perfect for two, but can accommodate up to six. Steps from the beach. Easy to launch a kayak. Good appliances. The driveway only accommodates two cars and there is no on street parking. Five minute drive to all shopping. We would come again

This is our second year at this rental. However, we previously stayed at multiple other rentals within a small area at the same beach. This is our favorite rental for our small, multi-generational family. The location, property, beach, amenities, communication and check-in/out are all great.

Everything was very nice at “Hoot Mon” cottage. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and it was great to have the beach outside our door. There are lots of good restaurants nearby and many things to do, kayaking, mini golf and a drive in movie.

Clean and enough room for all guests. Beautiful lake views, really nice beach steps away. We brought our kayaks and there was a perfect place to launch right by the cottage. Was nice to have a washer dryer. Being really close to town was convenient, yet the setting was peaceful. There were a several cottages right near us, but still felt quiet and relaxing.

The lake house, affectionately known as Hoot Man, is located on a private road, and a private beach shared by a small, friendly and well kept neighborhood. There are beautiful views of the sunset over the Sebago Lake Basin, and a peaceful quiet punctuated by the calls of the loons skimming the lake water. The house is very cozy and clean. The mini splits in the bedrooms and living room keep the cottage comfortable. Everything is in good working order, the internet is fast for remote work, and there are plenty of games for rainy days. The only thing that would have made the stay even better, would have been kayaks on the property. Casey was a great host and responded quickly to our questions!

What an incredible location and well maintained property! Our family enjoyed both the amazing beach (our children made fast friends with others vacationing nearby on the great community only beach!!) as well as took advantage to how close the property was to other activities on days the weather wasn’t cooperating with being on the beach. The property was clean and communication with the owner was so amazing and clear. Hoot Mon has a place in our family memory and heart after an incredible week!

I stayed with my mother and son(12). We were familiar with the location, having previously rented homes at the same beach. I rent in the area annually, but rarely want to return to properties. This is definitely a house will return to. In addition to the two bedrooms, my son made the upstairs loft his space for the week, which was perfect. The house is clean and well appointed.
All aspects of the booking and stay were ideal. We brought two kayaks and enjoyed them on the basin. The only possible improvement would be kayaks on site, rather than driving them from Maryland. However, it would not stop me and they can always be rented locally.

The waterfront location of this well-maintained, light-filled cottage is terrific for easy access to a protected sandy beach that is well-suited for children. It is in a very quiet area with no traffic, with easy access to a variety of stores, restaurants. The location is also convenient for local nature walks and hiking, as well as excursions in and around Portland.

We had the best time at Hoot Mon. This was the perfect place for my family. The house was so clean and had everything we needed. Having the beach right outside our door was so convenient. Christina and Casey were so helpful and great to work with. We will be back.

We loved the easy access to the beach and lake, as well as the convenience of grocery stores and restaurants just down the street. We recommend this as a great vacation spot and would return in the future.

"Hoot Mon" is a lovely lake cottage with comfortable and updated furnishings. It is open layout and has two bedrooms with en suites. It was perfect for our family consisting of two couples. It has great views of the Sebago Lake Basin, and direct access to a small neighborhood beach which was quiet and very clean. We really enjoyed the air conditioned interior on the hot summer days, which also made it comfortable for sleeping.

This property is awesome for the view and the proximity to a sandy beach. Has beach chairs and beach towels for guest use. Would have been super awesome if there were a kayak, paddle board, or canoe to use too.

Another wonderful stay at HootMon! Our family looks forward to our stay every year. The home is always clean and supplied with the necessities (linens, toilet paper, etc.). The owners are super nice and accommodating. If you forget anything, grocery stores, Reny's and Walmart are just around the corner. And you can't beat the beach, the sunsets, and the loons!

Lovely, Thoughtfully Designed House with Amazing Sunsets
We loved our stay in this property. The spotless house has been lovingly cared for with thoughtful touches inside. The upstairs bed and bath provides plenty of privacy from the downstairs bedroom with a loft that can be used as a third sleeping space. We found the views of the water and access to the beach even better than the photos on the listing. One could spend the entire stay lounging on the beach or in the house or take short day trips to many places. We loved having access to the gas grill, washer, and dryer. The kitchen space is great, too. We also made sure we were on the deck most nights to watch an extraordinary sunset that took on different colors each night. And our communication with the owners was great from start to finish. We are already talking about a return to this gem of a house.

Amazing Family Vacation
This property was perfect for our small family getaway. Very clean and only steps away from a small beach for the kids to play and adults to relax. In addition, the location is very convenient for quick trips to Walmart, Supermarkets, restaurants, etc if needed. We definitely plan to vacation here again!

Amazing!
The Hoot Mon Cabin was perfect! It was so quiet and peaceful. The water views from the deck, the sunsets and the proximity to town were fabulous. The cabin was very clean, had all the necessary amenities and then some. The kitchen was well stocked and was great for cooking meals. The owners were very responsive to any questions we had. We loved it and would definitely return!

Hidden Gem
We absolutely adore HootMon. It is a little hidden gem... steps to the beach, yet shopping is just around the corner. This was our second stay. Looking forward to returning next year and making it a family tradition.

Terrific setting right on the beach
Well equipped and very clean. More of a home than a camp with favs views up and down. Nice calm basin for easy canoe or kayak. Everyone loved the place.

Family vacation
We enjoyed spending time together as a family at the lake cottage. It was literally steps from the lake and super safe for our two young kids. I enjoyed that the kids could watch a movie on the third level while mom and dad could watch their own show in the basement.

Perfect few days
