About this house rental
The Brick House in the Woods
Prospect, Maine
This wonderful house is nestled in the woods on 20 private acres. No matter the season, you will be comfortable and content during your visit. There is a gas fireplace in the living room and a wood-burning fireplace in the den (wood is available in the shed). Our home also boasts a heat pump for comfort during warm days of summer, as well as warding off the chill of cool, fall days. If there's a power outage, no worries! We installed a Generac propane generator!
Off the den, there's a 3-season sunroom, and in summer, a screen room on the patio in the backyard.
There are four bedrooms upstairs, and an office/ bedroom downstairs. In the den, there is a double bed pull-out sofa.
We can comfortably accommodate 10 people.
The kitchen is fully equipped, including small appliances, pots and pans, spices, and even flour, coffee, and sugar. Upstairs, there's a good supply of towels, sheets, blankets, and quilts. Upon arrival, you will find farm fresh eggs (seasonal) and other welcome surprises. WIFI is available, as well as a TV (antenna), a blue-ray player, great selection of DVD's, a cupboard full of board games for all ages, puzzles, and a wide variety of books.
Your well-behaved dog is welcome, as long as it is currently treated with flea control and is on a leash or under your control when outside (we live next door and enjoy a dozen free-range hens.)
The Brick House in the Woods is located approximately twenty minutes from the wonderful little city of Belfast where you’ll find many restaurants, a movie theater, and a beautiful oceanside trail, as well as several unique shops and art galleries. Halfway there, you’ll drive through Searsport, ” the antique capital of Maine”, where many interesting discoveries await. Travelling twenty minutes down Route 1 from Belfast will take you to Camden, a lively tourist destination, where restaurants and shops line Main Street, and the beauty of the harbor is a must-see.
Our house is approximately 30 minutes from Bangor International Airport, and an hour from Bar Harbor, where you’ll find spectacular Acadia National Park. Prospect is nearby several state parks: Swan Lake State Park in Swanville, Fort Point State Park, Moose Point State Park, and Fort Knox State Park, where you can visit the fort and view the beautiful panorama from atop the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. Bucksport is just across the bridge. There's a wonderful river walk in town, as well as restaurants, an antique shop, bakery, and winery, grocery and movie theater.
There’s plenty of woods to explore right outside the back door, but if you are looking for nearby hiking trails, there are some a short distance away. We look forward to your visit, and will do our best to make your stay at "The Brick House in the Woods" memorable!

My team and I stayed here to be closer to French’s Point for a large wedding installation. We are florists and the house was perfect for giving us all a room of our own and the flowers a cool spot to wait. The owners were communicative and kind - greeting us with fresh eggs for the morning and a bottle of wine for when the work was done. Very easy to pop into Bucksport (House of pizza) and Searsport (Hey Sailor) to treat ourselves to some good dinners. We felt like we were in a private oasis and then we would suddenly pop out into some of maines great, uncrowded, hidden gems.

This property is beautiful! Susan & Bayard made everything so easy with booking, check-in and check-out. We found everything we needed for a WONDERFUL STAY! Everything was so well stocked. If we would ever be "in the neighborhood" again, we would definitely want to stay at "the brick house in the woods". Thank you Susan & Bayard sincerely.

Very nice warm house in the woods, remote, great opportunity to bond with family and nature, and if you need to get away from the harshness of city/urban life. Responsive host. Made it as base to Bar Harbor and Acadia and nearby small towns. We all had a wonderful time. Internet a bit slow can improve maybe but i guess its normal for the area.

We were in town for a family wedding and the place was lovely. It was clean and well equipped and had plenty of indoor space and outdoor space for the whole family. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

We stayed here for a quick weekend and wished it was longer! The house is large with enough space for the 9 of us to spread out and have enough room. The outdoor space is beautiful and well maintained.

We enjoyed our long weekend in this house. It has many rooms, each one comfortable and inviting. We spent a little time in each one. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining area was very spacious. The bedrooms were roomy and the beds were comfortable I really enjoyed combing through the record collection. There were some real gems in there.
The outside area didn't disappoint either. A fire in the firepit was a nice addition to evening coffee. Even just walking the grounds was a pleasant experience.
Overall, this was a wonderful stay. We are very glad we picked this property and would recommend it to anyone else.

We love this property, and our visits here may become an annual tradition. 11 of us stay to visit family in the area and the house setup works well for the adults and teens to each have their own space, or for all of us to get together. The hosts are very friendly and responsive- thank you!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a remarkable property nestled amidst the serene woods, and I cannot express how truly exceptional my experience was. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that this was no ordinary getaway. Here's a detailed review of my memorable stay:
The host of this property was simply outstanding. Susan's warm hospitality and attention to detail made me feel welcome and valued. They were readily available to answer any questions, provide local recommendations, and ensure that my stay was comfortable. Their genuine care and dedication truly made a difference.
The house itself was a haven of tranquility. Nestled in the heart of nature, it boasted multiple sitouts that overlooked the picturesque woods. Each sitout was uniquely designed to offer a different perspective of the surrounding beauty. It was a true pleasure to wake up to the sound of birds chirping and enjoy a cup of coffee while immersing myself in the serene environment.
The kitchen in this property was a delight for any culinary enthusiast. It was equipped with all the necessary appliances, making it a breeze to prepare meals. Whether you're a master chef or simply want to whip up a quick snack, you'll find everything you need right at your fingertips.
In conclusion, my stay at this property was nothing short of remarkable. From the amazing host to the breathtaking views and thoughtfully curated amenities, every aspect of this experience exceeded my expectations.

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights on a trip to Acadia. The location was nice, area was quiet and very calm. The property was also great, the only issue we had was some bugs that were around the house. The coffee provided was one of the best we've had! Susan was very kind and very helpful throughout the stay, I definitely recommend this place and would book again.

This place was really exactly what we were looking for. We fit 8 very comfortably and could definitely have fit a handful more if we’d needed to. The kitchen was well equipped for a group dinner, and afterword we enjoyed sifting through the hug collections of records, dvds, and board/card games. The owners were super nice and receptive and they left us some delicious fresh eggs. I’d highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to visit mid-coast or downeast Maine. And thank you to the owners! We had an amazing weekend!

We rented this property as a weekend away for a wedding in Belfast. It worked out perfectly for us. We are a family with a small dog and two children under three. The kids had the best time playing outside, with the games and reading the books they had in the kids room upstairs.

The housing arrangement was exactly what he were looking for and relatively close to Acadia National Park which was the primary reason why we came to Maine. The house could comfortably fit all 9 of us and had plenty of room to spend time together as a family. Also, house was very well stocked with needed supplies. Great experience!

We were at Sue’s house for a family vacation and had a great time. The house is perfectly located in a secluded area where all you can hear is the sound of birds. It was a perfect place to relax after a super active day at Acadia park and Bar Harbor. We were also so excited to have farm fresh eggs complements of Sue ( thank you!). All and all a great stay. Would highly recommend this place

We all enjoyed the quiet relaxing atmosphere at the Brick house. Susan is a wonderful host adding the special extra touches of gladiolus in the kitchen, fresh eggs on the refrigerator, and a complimentary bottle of wine in the wine rack. She also let us know about the weekend events in the area, which helped us plan our weekend activities. We loved the homey feel of the house and we’re considering booking again for next summer.

My friends and I booked Sue's house for a big reunion trip. We could not have made a better pick for our place to stay. To start, the place is beautiful - nice and private in the woods, with a lovely well tended garden around it. There's plenty of beds, a well stocked kitchen, two living rooms, one with a record player and tons of records. The backyard has a grill and screened in two season room, and a hammock off to the side. The house used to be Sue and Bayard's, and you can feel the love they've put into the place.
But let's talk about how amazing they are as hosts. They left us a bunch of farm fresh eggs in the fridge for us when we arrived, which was a nice surprise. And about halfway through the stay, they messaged us asking if we wanted their friend, a longtime lobster fisherman, to come cook us a real Maine lobster boil. If they offer this to you, take them up on it. We paid for the lobster and clams at extremely cheap prices, while Sue and Bayard brought us a bunch of homegrown vegetables, some bottles of wine, and two homemade apple pies made from their orchard. Where else in the world will find vrbo hosts that do that? They were a delight to chat with while they were serving and making us dinner. Seriously, don't pass this up if they decide to keep offering this to their guests.
Other nice things - the place is very close to the coast, Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor, and Bangor. You seriously cannot go wrong with renting this place. We will definitely be back.

This lovely private spacious home was the perfect getaway for our visit bar harbor/ Acadia. 6 of us had our own bedrooms (and more beds to spare), 1.5 baths, 3 livings rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, an netted outdoor area, a grill. Etc… lots of records to play from and we regularly saw hummingbirds. We were also left with some delicious local eggs! Highly recommend this place

We enjoyed our time at the Brick House in the Woods! We had a party of 8 plus four-legged friends and were comfy! We spent most of the days 1 to 2 hours away, near Bar Harbor, so if you don't mind driving a bit, this is the perfect place. Sue left fresh eggs courtesy of her hens in the fridge and there were essentials in the kitchen when we arrived. She was easy to get ahold of for questions and recommendations. Overall, lovely place to stay and we recommend without hesitation!

Peaceful Beautiful Maine Retreat
We had such a comfortable, peaceful stay in the beautiful flower filled Brick Home. The home felt so like Maine. We were surrounded by flowers, birds, in what felt like a garden.
The home had everything we desired in a Maine Retreat. Fresh eggs in the morning was a wonderful added gift. Thank you for sharing your home!

Perfect family gathering site!
This house worked out very well as a headquarters for five family members attending a wedding nearby. We invited other family members to a picnic in the backyard which was ideal. House was extremely well-equipped and clean and we appreciated the eggs! We would happily return!

Roomy welcoming house with great hosts
Staying here was wonderful with a great well stocked kitchen, den & dining room for gathering, many beds and multitudes of amenities. Hosts were responsive and generous with food and supplies. They had assembled packets of information on local attractions and general information on the area. We loved the comfortable feel of the house and had only begun to discover all the neat items in the house when we had to leave. We never really got to enjoy the three seasons room as we only stayed 2 days. We wished we could have carried it with us to our next destination. It was s lovely treed location ablaze with blooming phlox and was off the beaten path. Can’t say enough about this clean and elegant place, made even better by the hosts.

Beautiful quiet vacation home, close to lots of fun activities
We loved our stay! The house was spacious and quaint. We enjoyed both beautiful porches for reading and birdwatching and working on our puzzle. The house was nearby many parks and trails, so it was easy to make plans for excursions away from the house. Sue answered all my questions and we got to enjoy some of her chickens’ eggs! :)
