About this cottage rental
Lathkill cottage is a beautifully decorated two-bedroom cottage on the grounds of Stainsborough Hall that sleeps three adults or two adults, one child and one infant in a travel cot.
Recently renovated, the accommodation is all on one level and comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one bedroom with a single bed), and a bathroom with a large walk-in shower. We provide everything you'll need for a comfortable stay - Linens and towels are included - and we leave those little things you'll need - such as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, bin bags, tea towels, shampoo, conditioner - in your cottage so you don't need to worry about bringing everything with you.
The terrace at the back of the property overlooks the stunning countryside and beautiful gardens and comes complete with a Webber BBQ and outdoor furniture.
We welcome pets - and provide them with their own (darker) towels and welcome packs. We also have fenced fields for them to run around in!
Lathkill cottage is one of four cottages that we have on the property, but its sufficiently private for you to feel you are getting away from it all. But, we do have some communal facilities for you to enjoy - such as the Games Room with a table tennis table and extensive DVD collection, a tennis court, and a children's play area.
From the cottage, you can step straight out onto the many public footpaths that cross the Derbyshire countryside. You can walk directly from our land on the path around Carsington Water (ideal for walking and cycling), the nearest country pub is a 1-mile walk across the fields and you can walk to the market town of Wirksworth over the fields is less than 30 minutes.
Before you arrive you will receive a comprehensive online guide detailing all the activities that you can do in the area.

Wonderful rural location, lovely cottages
I would highly recommend these cottages, very nicely refurbished with lovely decor. My children loved the play area and we enjoyed the tennis court as a family. You can sit outside in the sun all day at the back of the cottages with rolling hills as your view. Great hosts, very good communication and on site should you need anything - great wine available to taste/buy.
Overall one of the best self catering breaks we’ve had in england.

Lovely property
We really enjoyed our stay - we chose it because it was close to our friends in Middleton and it was very convenient to visit them. We enjoyed a game of tennis and walking round the grounds but most of our time was spent off the property. The cottage was really clean and the beds comfortable. It was lovely and quiet so we slept very well. I do wish I had brought my slippers as only the bedrooms were carpeted! We had a problem with the bathroom towel rail not working and although this was not fixed during our stay (which made the bathroom chilly) the owners were extremely helpful and communicative over the problem and gave us clean dry towels and I was able to tumble dry them on another day. The kitchen is small but perfectly well equipped for basic cooking and heating meals I had pre-made. It was useful to have the use of a freezer across the yard too. The television reception was intermittent but we made use of the extensive DVD collection in the games room so it didn't matter too much. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Lovely compact cottage with great walks out the back door
We stayed here with anothe couple and we had 2 dogs between us. Cottage was perfect for our weekend stay but would be a little compact for a week with 4 adults but perfect for a couple and a child I'm sure. The lake really is a couple of minutes out the back gate of their land and a pub less than 20 mins walk away around the lake. Would recommend for sure.

Great break, comfy cottage, good hosts, good location for rest, walking and sight seeing
Cottages overlooking the pond, fields and countryside, in a tranquil setting. Good weather made each morning a lovely start and for a very relaxing break. A short drive into Wirksworth, or walkable along the lane up hill, or a great walk across fields to Carrsington Reservoir, for walking, bike trail, restaurant and cafe. Or drive to Tissington trail for a great cycle along the old railway. Walk into Ashbourne for some history, from the top of the trail too. Lots of other walks around- we were here when the lambs were springing around , which with the cows, geese and birsdong in full flow made for an idyllic location. Eateries in Wirksworth /shops and good pubs in locality. Mistral is a good favourite. Saturday market in Wirkskworth definitely worth a visit- get there earlier if you don't want to miss out on the great bread and cakes...and good coffee.
There is a stone museum and the Star Disc (best at night) to see in Wirksworth. Matlock Bath and Masson Mills for shopping at factory prices.
Cottage was clean and comfortable. Tiled floors so you may want your slippers! Open plan kitchen had limited space for us as I did cook a lot, due to our requirements, but it would have been ample for a family eating ready made food/lighter meals...there was a microwave, dishwasher and oven/hob. All utensils we needed-although a bit short on cutlery-as we cooked 3 meals a day. Tea towels/washing up liquid/dishwasher tabs all provided. Take your own bathroom toiletries but towels provided for.
We made very good use of the table tennis, played tennis on the court briefly and the others made good use of the large dvd selection! I read my books on the terrace in the sunshine!
Host Tim was very friendly- made time to join us at the table tennis! and made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. He has a decent bottle of wine too!
We left with a view to coming back - for those times when we just need to rest. No internet to speak of and not the fastest in the game room- but I view that as a PLUS! we left significantly more rested and calmer than when we had arrived! Recommended!

Great cottage perfect for walking
A lovely cottage with great walks around, we took our labrador and he had a great time running everywhere. Tim was very helpful letting us into the property before the time we should have arrived. A lovely few days away.

Charming and idyllic
Our stay in Lathkill cottage was lovely. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed including a cot for the baby. There was a slight problem with the light over the stove but the owner tried to help resolve it temporarily with tape. Apparently someone was coming out the next week to sort that. Everything in the cottage is new and nearly pristine. The grounds around the cottage are stunning and idyllic. I only wish we had taken a bit more time to enjoy it there rather than venturing out. We were a bit unsure about check in and check out procedures but didn't have any trouble with it and hope we did what we were supposed to do before we left! The play room for all the cottages is a nice amenity with lots of DVDs, wifi, games, a freezer and washing facilities. We would definitely return which I hope to do so I can take in the country surroundings more.

A place to get away from it all
Clean and cosy property with all amenities, situated in the middle of the countryside with easy access to walks and a short drive to more walks, bicycle rental, pubs, villages and towns. And if you want to not just walk, there is a tennis court, or table tennis if it is raining. Wifi and mobile signal patchy which can only be a good thing. We only stayed a few days of an off peak week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lovely, cosy Accommodation with a picturesque scenery
A good location for people who love walking. A good amenities - the property was spotless clean and well- maintained even though the wireless signal is poor which is a good sign for all of us to stop using Internet heavily and get out to explore the world of Wirksworth. The Rising Sun pub is an excellent venue for everyone to eat out and I thoroughly enjoyed eating their vegetarian meal. Good beer too. Been visited to popular cafe called Mercia which offer high standard of snacks and their staffs are so friendly sharing their experience of working there. A highly recommendation for anyone who want to wind down and chill out.
