We loved this property! Very clean & comfortable with all the necessities. The location is great -- very easy to find and right outside of Kapaa with easy access to all parts of the island. The weather was cool and rainy for much of our stay (which is why it is such a beautiful, lush island!), so did not get much use of the pool, but it is a nice addition for warmer weather. We would definitely stay at Sleeping Giant Cottage again.

This is a perfect location for talravelers exploring hawaii. It has beautiful scenery on the way to the house. The house itself is exactly as pictured. And hosts had everything necessary for beach days

We came across this property because it was close to the sporting complex our sons tournament was being held at. We absolutely love this cottage. It was clean and comfortable. Perfect for our little family. The kitchen has everything you need. The two porches and the little plunge pool were great. I would definitely stay here again. The host was very quick to message back and accommodate us.

Normally we stay at a beach resort when we visit Kauai but we wanted to have the opportunity to cook our own meals this time. We will definitely be returning to this little cottage. Super clean, excellent communication from hosts. Super cool cat that lives on the property! Short drive to the beach and downtown Kapaa. Perfect location to avoid contra flow traffic as there are a few ways to get to the cottage, so no waiting around! The pool is perfect size for a small family. Enjoy the sounds of the birds and just relax! Thank you Michelle and Rohin, we will be back soon.
Oh and this cottage has ALL the beach equipment you could possibly need. Chairs, umbrella, ice chests, snorkel gear. You name it, they have it.

The cottage, just up the hill in a residential area at the base of the Sleeping Giant Mountain, was exactly as represented and perfect for us Kauai is not that large of an island ; therefore the central location of the cottage made it easy to reach anyplace on the island you wanted to go.
Minutes away to the south is Lihue, airport, COSTCO, Walmart, Target. To the north Kapaa, Safeway and the best shave ice on the island ...Wailua Shave Ice (Strawberry/Mango with snow cap and foam). Day trips north are Hanalei and south/west to Waimea and Kokee State Park.
If you want to feel like you are at home, kitchen, laundry, screened lanai, lush yard then it’s perfect. If you want maid service, room service, walk to restaurants and bars or an all inclusive experience it’s not the place for you.
For us it was perfect, neighborhood cat “Tortilla” would saunter by to say hi and the outside garden shower was more than delightful.

We found this house to be the perfect location for exploring the island!!
The house was as advertised - I would describe it as clean and cozy. It was wonderful to come back after a day of exploring and be able to cool off in the splash pool and relax out on the screened in porch (my favorite part of the house!). Our kids found the pull out couch to be perfectly comfortable and we all enjoyed the easy access to washer and dryer during our trip.

Great spot for private vacation rental!
We LOVED this house! It’s in a beautiful, more private area and was just a quick drive down to the beach. Lydgate Park nearby was amazing!! The pool is a little smaller than we realized but it was great for the kids to splash around in. If we ever go back to Hawaii this is definitely where we will stay again. The hosts were fantastic and very responsive. Thank you for helping make our trip awesome!

The perfect Kauai stay
I LOVED this place! So peaceful and calm, felt so remote and yet only 10 minutes from Kapa'a. And the checkin was a breeze. I'd love to stay here again.

Very nice with a few problems
This was a very nice property and exactly as advertised. Neighborhood was out of the city proper but convenient to everything. Plunge pool was cold but a nice addition. Screened porch was fantastic.. However, window sills were not cleaned and, more significantly, three of the pillows had mold on them. Yes, Kauai is very damp, but this certainly should have been noted in the cleaning process and the pillows replaced. Maybe understandable for a budget hotel, but at the price charged, greater care and oversight should have been exercised.

Cozy place close to Kapaa town
The house was a cozy homebase on the east side, making it easy to go either north or south.
While the house had everything we needed, it didn’t feel 100% clean ( food spots on the cabinets, dust bunnies on the lamps), so I did a one over When we arrived. And I wish the pool got more sunlight to be warm enough for our infant to swim in.

4 nights in Kapaa
This property isn’t near the beach but a fun change in a beautiful mountain setting. The house is small but perfect for a couple or small family. The house is well appointed with quality items and furniture. Our favorite was the screened in porch in the back. A great place to relax, eat, read a book or nap.

Relaxing stay with our Ohana
The place was perfect for a little getaway with our family. The kids loved the pool and quiet surroundings. Just make sure to bring some mosquito spray if they love your blood. ❤️
The owners were great and responsive when we needed them. Would definitely book again.

When I saw this listing I was very excited and it looked awesome for my husband and my toddler of 3 years old. Especially with the pool I thought my son would have a lot of fun and he did. However, the pool is not heated and even though it's Hawaii and it's hot outside it may take awhile for some to get used to it cooling pool. ( We knew that before arriving)
Also, the pictures listed are when the place was recently done with renovation because when we arrived it looked run down and dirty. This was a red flag for us especially with COVID. We expected this home to be clean. When I was looking around we found no toiletries. No hand soap for the kitchen so we contacted the person in charge and she mentioned that they were probably in a rush and didn't leave it for us. Dishes and utensils for kiddos were also dirty with crumbs and residue. There's also no dishwasher which we knew before going. However, the drying rack was so dirty it was driving me insane to put clean dishes on a dirty drying rack.
Then their bathroom sink had a previous leak and their P trap stunk so bad because it was old and it was probably semi clogged from many travelers. My husband wanted to replace that for them so bad since he's very handy. We could smell it from our bedroom or whenever we were in the hall way. We also found complimentary resort toothbrush and toothpaste that was left from previous owner as well in the bathroom.
In our bedroom we also found a booster seat for dining and I was pleased to see that since we have a toddler but when we took it out it was so filthy I ended up cleaning it. (Please bring a pack of disinfectant wipes since there are none provided at this place)
At that point, I ended up cleaning all the surfaces with disinfectant wipes that I had brought. Also, their lanai is awesome since its screened in but all the furniture had stains on it and that was disturbing to the point I couldn't let my family sit on the couch on the lanai. I ended up using the sheet that they had provided from our bedroom to put it over the bed in the lanai area.
There's also no AC and this was something I asked before booking. They mentioned that's pretty windy so we should be fine. After staying there, they definitely need AC there because it was very very hot and barely any wind in the afternoon.
We were excited to see how they had beach gear and it was so rusty to where it was embarrassing to bring to the beach. I have so much more to say but ran out of room.

Jungle Retreat (no camping required)
Fantastic clean, comfortable property with a magical tropical backyard (including banana and cacao trees) which surrounds the lanai. I liked being in a regular neighborhood and it's great to have two routes to the coast, both of which avoid the Kapaʻa traffic.

Super Clean And Charming
We enjoyed our stay at the Sleeping Giant cottage. The back porch was peaceful and comfortable with bird songs quite often. The keyless lock made entry easy and communication was perfect. Just a walk to the Sleeping Giant hiking trail from the house and easy drives to beaches, farmer’s markets and sights. The cottage was spotless and tidy. We’d stay again and recommend to friends.

Great time at the Sleeping Giant Cottage
We loved our stay at the cottage. Owners were very responsive to the one minor problem we had. Remote enough to give the feel of privacy yet minutes from Kapaa town.

Great location in a comfortable setting.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at michelle’s Cottage. It was easy to access the more touristy areas of Kauai without the traffic. The cottage was perfect for two people plus it was equipped with beach towels and chairs. Would love to stay again. Plus, Michelle was easy to access.

RENT THIS ONE!
We stayed here for six days during our honeymoon, and it was well worth it. The cottage is quite private and feels like home. The backyard is so beautiful--you feel like you're sitting in a jungle.
There are chickens in the immediate neighborhood, so expect to see them and be woken up by roosters at the crack of dawn. The roosters bothered us at first, but we came to appreciate that they helped us to not "waste" the day sleeping when we should have been out exploring. I highly recommend hiking Sleeping Giant (it is very strenuous on the west trail), check out the Old Hawaiian Village, and go to Smith's Family Luau. We also did the mountain tubing which ended up being our favorite adventure :)
NOTE: There is no AC here. It was very hot inside the house even with the screens open and fans going. If you are very sensitive to the heat, this might not be the right fit for you. But otherwise a beautiful cottage with so much to do in the surrounding area.

Absolutely perfect!
The best way to see Hawaii! This is the perfect central location and a comfortable house. This home is stocked with everything we could need, and more! The yard has so many interesting plants and trees, it was like living at a miniature botanical gardens! Mahalo, and I would love to stay again next time I'm Hawaii 🐾

Live on Kauai like a local, in the comfort and privacy of a beautiful home
I stayed in this house for five nights with my wife and 9 year old daughter. The whole experience exceeded our high expectations.
We immediately "liked" this home (do you know what I mean??) from the moment we walked in. The beautiful interior of the home and its furnishings were pleasing, the floor plan was great, and the owner's attention to cleanliness and detail was obvious. The interior, as well as front and backyard and landscaping are all well maintained. As we unpacked and took it all in, we slowly began to fall in love with this place.
The house has good sized front and side lanais and also an enormous rear facing screened-in lanai. The rear facing lanai is an awesome place to hang out and relax, read and drink coffee. It also gives some privacy and separation from the other rooms and allows you gaze at the lush/tropical back yard while hearing the sounds of nature through the screens.
You can also set up the rear lanai for sleeping if you decide to use the large air mattress (provided). This worked great for my kid, and she loved the fact that she could fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle every night. And just like at a high-end hotel, all bedding, pillows and sheets were clean and ready to go, courtesy of the owner.
There is abundant natural light and also good airflow through the many windows of the house. We were comfortable in terms of temperature the entire time. And in terms of hot water for bath/shower, there is plenty! And the water pressure is very good too.
The kitchen has been upgraded with new appliances, and is beyond adequate for cooking family meals. We soon discovered that everything we needed, but didn't bring, was stocked in this house and waiting for our use. Examples include a coffee bean grinder, coffee filters and a coffee maker, olive oil, salt, sugar, and pepper, ice, a tea pot, an outdoor grill, beach towels.. the list goes on and on... utensils, bowls and plates, cups and glasses.. we cooked frequently and we had everything we needed.
The house is set back from the street and is in a quiet area. The general setting is beautiful with views of lush green mountains and dramatic Kauai skies from the street in front of the house.
And the location is unbeatable! It works well for short trips down to Kapaa town for a nice meal or visit to a beach, or excursions north or south on the island.
Lastly, the owner was available and super responsive, but also let us be and gave us complete privacy.

in the shadow of sleeping giant
A Wonderfull cottage stay. Well appointed and comfortable. Gives guests the feeling of what it is like to live in Kauai . Rick the owner is top shelf. There is no better concierge at any resort.! The grounds are rich and lush, your own private Jungle. Rick may be selling the cottage. I hope the new owners continue it's use as a guest cottage. We want to come back here next year. Sleeping Giant Cottage is the best.

Hidden Gem!
Beautiful, quiet surroundings and well stocked with kitchen supplies as well as items for a day at the beach. We really enjoyed the screened porch out back in the evenings and on rainy days. The neighborhood is just far enough off the main highway to feel away from it all but not too far as be be an inconvenience. Great location for accessing entire island. The house was a little tight for 4 people but doable if you fold up the sofa bed each day and take advantage of the outdoor spaces. Outdoor shower was great for washing off sand and red mud from rainy day adventures. Would love to book here again.

Nice little place located in a great location.
We had a great visit to the island and this was the perfect place to stay for our family. We had everything we needed and located close to a lot of beaches and easy access to the rest of the island. Thank you for everything.

Seclusion Rendering Landscaping Makes Gem in Town
This property is in a suburb-like area near Kapa'a with neighbors next to and across the road. But the selective placement of trees and other plants makes it almost impossible to see the neighbors from within. Further, there was little residential noise heard! These aspects make this a very good choice for those folks that are looking for a secluded place, especially when this unit is fairly close to downtown Kapa'a (~10 mins).
Other aspects of this property as indicated in the list of amenities made the stay here very convenient from the "comforts of home" perspective. The only little thing that I would have preferred is air conditioning, but given the typically perfect temperatures,, most places do not use them.
The landlord is very friendly and accommodating. He even brought over a couple of fresh coconuts from his farm - nice!
I strongly recommend this location when on Kauai.

Everything needed was in the house. Handy and convenient
Recommend this vacation rental for it's setting in a tropical paradise with beautiful birdsongs and the fact it's once-removed from downtown (yet just a few minutes from Kapa'a). Very conveniently located for excursions North, south or west. Thanks, Rick, for your suggestions and recommendations. The Saturday night street fair was a blast. Thank you for a memorable vacation.
