Funky little hotel that is adjoining a cool art deco tavern. The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The whole place has a quirky nice vibe. We knew ahead of time that there was no elevator so that did not come as a surprise. We stayed in the triple room on the top floor. Good breakfast that includes a custom ordered omelette if desired.

No había secador tampoco.

huge bath with crystal taps in middle of bedroom!
decoration rather grand
excellent blackout curtains
the en-suite loo was separated from the bedroom only by a curtain
the staircase up to the first floor was extremely narrow and steep

Warm environment and employees. Very naive large room. The general aesthetic of the building and the interior design is excellent. Not another typical hotel. There is no big company exploiting the building, but simple people. This means that your money goes in the right hands. This is why you feel so warm and cozy. I would definitely suggest it, however If someone is old I don’t know if he/she will manage to go up the stairs on the fifth floor. This is the only disadvantage and only for people with that are not capable to walk well or are very old.

The staff especially the clerk from Romania were great. She spoke four languages and gave us help with recommendations and directions. She was wonderful!

Wonderful Art Deco Hotel, well located with helpful staff, and a comfortable room. A great Brussels experience.
Lacks elevator, but staff kindly took luggage to our room.

The quality and size of the room were great.
I was not aware that there was no elevator, and my room was on the 4th floor. For people with mobility difficulties this would be a problem.

very cool building in a convenient location
could be very challenging to get up the stairs for someone with physical disability or injury

The bed was really good and I loved the bath tub
There was no door to the toilet, only a curtain so I guess you can see the problem here. Also there was no soap or shampoo provided by the hotel

Spacious rooms, very friendly staff, and well located.
Some minor faults concerning cleanliness.

Lovely staff, close to the centre, a beautiful Art Deco hotel which unfortunately was being renovated so I couldn’t appreciate its beauty. Amazing staff, organising buses and taxis for me, even coming in early to che k if I got my taxi. Highly recommend this hotel.

Well priced accommodation in a great location with a nice manager. Good value for money. It's not a Radisson Blue but it is good value for money.

The room had been recently refurbished.
The room was very noisy, with various sounds from the neighboring rooms, the corridor, the ventilation(?), and alarms from the street. The building is undergoing renovation and the view from the window was completely blocked.

Location, spacious rooms with good shower, clean.

Up front the place is "quirky"... you walk in and you see a lounge-like bar/pub area and wonder if this is really a hotel. However the staff is so personable and helpful that we ended up feeling very comfortable. The hotel is close walking distance to the train station and a major bus drop off point, and very central to Brussels city. It is a bustling city area so if you want countryside, this is not the area to be in. The hotel provides a wonderful breakfast if desired for extra cost, but not dinners. We were tired of eating out but found a wonderful Thai restaurant a block away that did take out, so we did that along with purchasing a nice bottle of wine at the hotel (they do sell drinks!!) and ate in our room which had a small table for that purpose. As I said, the staff was wonderful... even selling me ice cream one night and ordering a taxi for us for a middle of the night ride to the airport when we left. Staff is not on site overnight.
I suppose it would have been nice to have staff there overnight, although we didn't really need it. Also, it might have been nice to get food at the hotel other than breakfast, but again... not essential. There was some construction going on to the outside of the building, but it only made noise a few times and only mid-day... and that is temporary.

The location was perfectly located in central Brussels. My room was comfortable and the staff were so nice and accommodating.
I wish the hotel had air conditioning but I realize a lot of older hotels in Europe do not have it. I would stay there but maybe in October or cooler months.

Great location, just a corner away from Rue Neuve and close to public transport. Big comfortable room too.
It was a bit noisy at night, other residents could be heard walking around on the floor above but other than that nothing to complain about.

RIEN. LA CHAMBRE A LES PUNAISES
NICHTS. DAS ZIMMER HAT DIE BETTWANZEN.
NOTHING. THE ROOM HAS BED BUGS.
BEDBUGS PUNAISES BETTWANZEN BEDBUGS PUNAISES BETTWANZEN
Everything. The room has BED BUGS and I got 30 bites on my body and 9 on my face. My face, hands and arms swelled up and the itching was agony.
Barbara one of the managers tried to refund me for one night. I was meant to be there for 4 nights. I insisted on a full refund, which I understood Barbara did in my presence on Wednesday, September 7. I also had to cancel going onwards to Germany which was the main reason for my trip and return home as the bed bugs would travel in my luggage to the next hotel. This would also mean more agonising bites. I decided it would be better to go home. The suitcase remains outside and all the linen (used or not) has had to be laundered at 95C.
It transpires that Espérance did not refund me, but are demanding that I return a key I forgot to give back and only then will they refund me. The key and fob can be re cut for less than it costs to send them. I am not at all happy with this attitude: one that she said that she had refunded me but evidently didn’t when I checked the statement and two making the FULL refund contingent on the key’s return. I am disgusted by this behaviour.
Furthermore, the entire hotel will need to be fumigated as bed bugs get everywhere. Treating an individual room is no guarantee of totally removing the problem. Also, note that 25% of the population present with swollen and incredibly itchy bites.
I would not recommend this hotel.
