Our family of 6 (all 18+) came together for a much needed two week vacation at 60 Capawock. We've spent may summers in Truro on the cape but have never really experienced an extended stay on MV. What a perfect place to do just that. The house and location were perfect. Everyone had plenty of room to spread out and relax. If you needed a quiet place to sneak away and read a book, there's a porch for that! We loved all the fun games at the house especially the ping pong table! The beaches were quiet, lovely and really close by. We had most of our meals at the house so a good kitchen was key. It was spacious comfortable and well equipped. We even found a good dining table in a separate room to keep a puzzle going the whole time we were there! The only problem we had was..... we couldn't stay longer!
Thank you Dan for a fantastic time at your lovely home.

The house was great, so spacious and well-appointed. It was perfect for a family getaway. Your every need has been thought of for a relaxing stay, from beach chairs & toys, to games and books, to lots of areas to lounge & enjoy the outside, to every kitchen gadget you may need to prep & serve meals of great local seafood and produce. Dan (the owner), was easy to reach and accommodating when we had questions or concerns. We loved being secluded and having our own space for the kids and dog to run around. The beach was a little further than we expected to walk but a very short drive. Would have been nice to know ahead of time that "stairs" beach access is closed (due to a storm last year) so we could have thought about other options before our arrival. Not a big deal as there is so much to do - just mentioning it for planning purposes. We would absolutely stay there again, and hope to again soon.

We visit MV every year with our extended family but this was our first time in the Makonikey area and it did not disappoint! The house was as described in the listing. The kitchen was very spacious with a ton of counter space, 2 sinks and plenty of room in the fridge and pantry. The living space was plenty, and the screened & covered porches came in particularly handy on a couple of rainy warm days for us to still get some fresh air. My daughter and niece made use of all the games available with an added bonus of having the ping pong table and pinball machines on those rainy days. The beaches weren’t quite walking distance for our crew, but with a few mins drive or short bike ride we could enjoy the sun and warm waters. The sunsets on this side of the island are absolutely spectacular and were so easy to add to our evenings verse previous years when we had to plan our day around getting to Menemsha. Getting to Edgartown and OB took a little longer than we were used to in past stays, but I highly recommend this spot for those looking to have a quiet “up-island” type vacation while still able to get to Vineyard Haven easily.

Longtime visitors to the Vineyard tend to either want to be close to the action in Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs or Edgartown ... or to have quiet and isolation. And often those folks will be in the same family group! This place is relatively close in to VH, but really quite private ... both the house itself and the Makonikey beaches. The latter have a few stones and seaweed -- which bothers some folks. Happily, the pure sand experience is just down the beach at Lamberts Cove, an especially gentle beach great for little kids.
The house itself is spacious with a huge kitchen. We like to cook meals as a family -- this made it fun and easy to move around without bumping into each other. and the game room of course added to the fun.
The only thing marring an otherwise delightful visit was that the house had either not been cleaned after the last renters, or was very ineptly cleaned. I will spare the gory details, since Dan promptly responded to the situation and got the cleaners to come back in on Sunday. Dan's responsiveness and the lack of mention of this problem in other reviews earned him the benefit of the doubt for us that this is just one of those things that sometimes happens beyond the owner's control. We'll be checking subsequently posted reviews... and if this issue does not recur, we'd certainly be interested in coming back next year.

Dan and Pam’s home had everything our family needed to enjoy our stay. We spent much of our time on the porches, basking in the peaceful setting. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked outside on the grill as well. Menemsha Beach was a wonderful spot to eat lobsters cooked at Larsen’s Fish Market while watching the sunset. The Friday evening lobster rolls served at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven were fabulous and a quintessential New England experience. Of course, we loved being able to walk to the private beaches nearby which were never crowded.

I've come here four years in a row and I never get get tired of it. The house is situated in the woods for privacy but you are a few minutes from town. It is a short 15 minute walk to the beach where the views from the cliff are amazing. If you want to stick around the house there is plenty to do there. There are games for the kids and adults and plenty of outdoor accomodations. One of my favor things to do is to relax outside in a deck chair while enjoying a beverage. The view of the surounding property is amazing and filled with wildlife. Deer and rabbits are frequent visitors to the yard. If you are into fishing there many charters available on the island as well as surf fishing from the nearby beach. No matter what reason brings you to the Vineyard, this house will work for you. Try it, you will like it!

Island Idyll
We stay at Dan and Pam’s home exclusively and each visit is better than the last.
The short walk to the private Upper and Lower Makonikey Beaches is worth the price of admission! You will often have the beach to yourself, even during peak season on the Vineyard. Ending each day with a visit to the top of Stairs Beach (Upper) to watch the sun set over the Elizabeth Islands is a must, cocktails are optional.
The house and yard are set back from the road surrounded by woodlands providing your own private sanctuary. You are greeted by a covered wrap around porch that leads to a great layout with a large open kitchen, dining room, living room and family room. The air hockey game, pinball machine and enclosed ping-pong table (on porch) are a welcome diversion after a day at the beach. Wide plank stairs bring you to the bedrooms on the second floor. Keep the windows open for those gentle island breezes.
We’ll be back in 2017!

A Gread Find
Our experience with this rental could not have been better. Let me share some of the reasons.
First, there's nothing like staying in Upper Makonikey. It's less than a ten minute walk to stairs beach, which gives you access to a private beach next to the famous "Split Rock." Every morning I woke up and took the dog for a walk to the beach and threw the ball into the surf until she was tired. Most nights we walked back to the beach for the sunset. (The pictures were epic.) During the day we went to Lambert's Cove.
That right there would be a great vacation. But the property itself is fantastic. A beautiful layout with plenty of room for kids/guests and four different spaces to eat. We had dinner outside every night and coffee/breakfast on the wrap-around deck every morning and didn't even use the dining room. The kitchen was large and comfortable and the yard was spacious and private.
From the time we rented until the end of our stay, Dan (the owner) was responsive and helpful. My only regret about this house is that we discovered it only this year after after more than 20 trips to the Vineyard.
