About this apartment rental
Need a relaxing refuge to retreat to after a day of adventuring among the natural wonders of Yosemite National Park? Our warm and inviting home is located inside the park gates equidistant from the celebrated features of Yosemite: the namesake Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias and 800 miles of hiking trails. Over and over guests tell us that when they come back at the end of the day, they feel like they are coming home.
Alpine Escape is a 760 square foot (70 square meter), one-bedroom apartment. You will enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen with full-size, quality appliances, granite countertops and a full complement of cooking equipment (pots, pans, coffee maker, blender, and so on). Knotty alder cabinets in the kitchen, bath and bedroom and knotty alder doors and trim throughout give a warm feel to the home. We live upstairs in our own apartment while you have the ground floor with a completely separate entrance.
For your comfort, we have central heat (propane) and a gas fireplace to keep you warm in winter and air conditioning (Fujitsu mini-split) to keep you cool on hot days.
The living/dining area has a table for four, a large sofa and a 47" flat-screen television for watching movies from our DVD collection or streaming on Roku, Netflix or Paramount Plus.
The bedroom features a queen bed with a built-in knotty alder closet. An alcove off the living room provides bedding for up to two additional guests on a daybed and pullout trundle with memory foam mattresses. The trundle is at floor level, so it is great for younger kids, but perhaps not so great for older adults! Alpine Escape is the perfect size for a couple or a family with one or two children. It can work for four adults if the bedding is acceptable, but we don't recommend it for two couples traveling together.
Outside you have a small, covered patio and a sitting area with a pergola and a sunshade where guests often enjoy breakfast or an afternoon glass of wine.
We are near the end of a quiet street, the perfect starting point for an evening stroll. Some winter mornings, we've woken to the laughter of young kids happily sledding down the road in front of our house (and observant parents keeping their eyes open for the occasional vehicle). There are places nearby to go for walks with excellent birding and wildflowers, including what may be the best display of Evening Primroses in the entire park right in our front yard (in the early 1900s the Evening Primroses were a major attraction in Yosemite Valley and the subject of some of the first hand-tinted color photos ever taken, but there are now only a handful scattered around the Valley). There are some good, flat and steep running and walking trails at the top of the neighborhood, about a five-minute drive away.
But of course, you are coming to Yosemite for the soaring granite cliffs, massive sequoia trees and tremendous views. Yosemite West is located inside the park entrance, and sits near an intersection of the roads leading to the park's most famous features: Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point and Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. These popular park destinations are all within 15-18 miles (30-35 minutes) from Yosemite West in three different directions. The Badger Pass ski area is only seven miles away providing access to Yosemite's winter wonders, including XC ski and snowshoe trails, as well as lift-served skiing and snowboarding. If you're looking to eat out, the restaurants of Yosemite Valley are about 30 minutes away, while the Wawona Hotel, which welcomed Theodore Roosevelt on his 1903 trip to Yosemite, is about 30 minutes in the opposite direction.
We also pride ourselves on our depth of knowledge of the park and our willingness to share that knowledge. Since 1985, we have been coming to the park for the world-class rock climbing and have been living here full time since April 2003. We're hikers, climbers, backcountry skiers and wildflower enthusiasts and general naturalists. In past years, we have worked as Assistant Manager of the Yosemite Mountaineering School running the hiking program (Theresa), a park ranger (Tom), ski instructors (both). Through those experiences, and through helping our guests over the years, we have wealth of information that we are willing to share to help you make the most of your time in Yosemite whether it's a couple of days or a couple of weeks!
Note also: we have a security camera that overlooks the front yard and the road. This helps us see that guests have arrived safely. When we are gone, it also lets us know when guests have left so we can let the cleaner know people have left and he doesn't have to keep swinging by to see if he can clean yet. And finally the public works plowing supervisor uses the camera to see if he needs to send a plow crew. Only authenticated users have access (that is, this is not a public webcam).

This property was immaculately clean, beautifully furnished, very comfortable, quiet and in a great location for visiting Yosemite National Park. The kitchen was well stocked and the washer and dryer were a big plus. Our hosts, Tom and Theresa, were a great resource for park tips and information and we followed some of Tom's great suggestions for additional things to do in the park besides our planned ones. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to do them all! This property was perfect for us as first time visitors Yosemite due to the property itself, the location and our hosts. I absolutely recommend this property if you are planning a visit to Yosemite National Park.

Our first trip to the area. Loved the location..in the park and it felt like home during our 5 day stay.
Full kitchen , washer/dryer and comfy beds. We traveled with our 16y/o and 19 y/o. The “nook” with two beds worked great!
Tom was very knowledgeable of the area and gave us great suggestions on hikes and things to see. So many great memories made!
Thank you for making it great Tom!

This house has more than you could ever expect! During our stay, there was a power outage for at least 5 hours, and our house was the only one on the street with lights on, thanks to its batteries. It made a huge difference!
Tom was incredibly attentive and cordial, providing us with all the necessary information. The house is perfect for up to 4 people and is located within Yosemite, although it is about 30 minutes from Yosemite Valley where you can find groceries. So, come prepared.
We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Alpine Escape Yosemite to anyone looking for a comfortable and reliable place to stay.

We were so happy to spend a week at Tom and Theresa’s home. The unit is immaculately clean and exactly as described on VRBO. We were lucky enough to have Tom’s expertise to help us plan our days and he provided a lot of history on the park. The central location of the house could not be better. It was a perfect place for our family of four (2 adults and 2 teens).

Tom and Theresa were absolutely wonderful and their clean basement space had everything we needed for a great week at Yosemite. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome and helping us so much in our planning process!

Would definitely stay here again

The property was well appointed, clean, well stocked and comfortable. The owners were very kind and found someone to put our chains on our tires in the snow. They were very understanding about our fear of driving in the snow and offered accomodations in case we couldn't make it out. The location is perfect for visiting attractions in the park. Really very nice.

Well appointed and comfortable. Easy in and out with no stairs. Fireplace gave great ambiance and no firewood required. Best part you are within the Yosemite gates so no waiting in line to get in.

Our Christmas getaway in Yosemite was magnificent. The fireplace, the silence and my nap in the most comfortable giant bean bag chair made it a happy trip. Thanks muchly.

Great property inside the park. Very comfortable after a full day of activities. Tom and Theresa are awesome owners!

The owners have tremendous attention to detail and have forgotten nothing in their attempt to make their apartment comfortable and well equipped. After long days at Yosemite we felt like we were coming home. The half-hour drive from Yosemite Valley is on a long, curvy, mountain road, but the house is much closer than most other rentals. This a great place for a couple to stay while exploring Yosemite National Park!

Very clean and cozy place with all the necessary amenities for a relaxing weekend hiking around Yosemite National Park. Would recommend for any couple for your weekend at the park!

We thoroughly enjoyed, and were fully satisfied with, our stay at the Alpine Escape. Tom was a great resource and helped us tweak our hiking/sight-seeing plans; the beds were comfortable and the area was very quiet; all of the amenities were high quality and in great condition; the house was in close proximity to Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove and the Valley... (Renters should be aware that Tom and Theresa live above. You can hear a minimal amount of sound -- ex. light footsteps -- but this was never a bother and greatly outweighed by the friendly chats with Tom and Theresa).

My family and I feel so lucky to have picked this listing! It looks exactly like the pictures and has literally everything you could need. We cooked the entire time we were there and the kitchen had everything! They have truly thought out anything guests might need and ensure you have the most comfortable stay. We hope to one day come back!

The stay at Alpine Escape was wonderful! First time using VRBO and was so lucky to be at Thomas’ place. It was very clean and the bed arrangements was great for a family of four. Love the fireplace during chilly nights. Thomas was super friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable about Yosemite. Would definitely stay there again in the future if we visit Yosemite.

Our needs were pretty basic and this property had everything we were looking for: 2 separate sleeping areas (toddler in tow), kitchen, and close proximity to the valley. We really appreciated how all of the furnishings and fixtures are well kept and up to date on style while being very comfortable and cozy. There is a large kitchen for cooking and plenty of countertop space to lay out food/snacks and random baby stuff. Good sized bedrooms and mattresses were all comfortable. We were here after a snow storm and the 2 heating options were wonderful - central heating and gas fireplace.
Tom and Theresa are great hosts - friendly, welcoming, and very thorough in their correspondences (highly appreciated).
Would highly recommend this property to others especially to young families!

Alpine Escape was very comfortable and well equipped. It was a great location for resting up between hiking trips. The kitchen and outside grill were equipped with everything we needed to prepare our own meals, and the beds were quite comfortable and appreciated after a full day of hiking. We also appreciated Tom's knowledge of the park and his various recommendations. The on-line recommendations were also very thorough and helped us prepare for a successful visit. We especially appreciated the recommendation to visit Raley's grocery store on our way from San Franciso to the park.

We booked our stay to visit our daughter who was working in Yosemite for the summer, but we were also excited to see the park and do some hiking. Tom and Theresa were excellent at communication from the day that we booked. We also had to contend with back to back wildfires at the time of our trip and they were very helpful with providing us with air quality updates and flexibility with our reservation due to the unhealthy levels of smoke. Most importantly, they welcomed our daughter as a guest due to the smoke in the valley. Tom and Theresa were always available and always very friendly and informative when we saw them, which made it feel like we were long time friends. Thank you to them for welcoming us, providing frequent and helpful information and for the flexibility due to the wildfires. We did not adjust our trip and we were able to enjoy the park for the entire week and use their recommendations for some spectacular hikes.

perfect base camp
This is an AWESOME VRBO. Perfect for a family of 4. Exquisitely cleaned. Well appointed with new and high quality appliances. Tom and Teresa live above the rental portion, so they are present to help with anything you need. Although they are so well organized, there aren’t any questions to be had! Truly excellent hosts! The 30 minute drive into the valley is scenic to say the least, passing right through the Tunnel View. And so nice to stay inside the park! Highly highly recommend!

Beyond Perfect Home & Host
From making first reservations to departure, Tom & Theresa provided ongoing communication, updates, info from detailed directions to grocery stores & restaurants. The home is spotless clean with a well-stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, all living spaces comfortable and well-appointed. Tom is a wealth of information helping us plan our hiking adventures for the time we stayed in Yosemite Valley. We have NEVER stayed in a VRBO home or host like this! We are impressed and grateful to Tom & Theresa for sharing their home and adding to our "trip of a lifetime"!

Amazing!
My wife and I were very pleased with this home. Very clean home and there were lots of amenities provided from kitchen essentials, washer/dryer on site and the bed was comfortable. Tom and Theresa were excellent hosts and Tom was full of knowledge when providing insight on hikes and trails and general park info. On our return trip to Yosemite, we will be booking with Tom and Theresa again. Thanks to you both for making our first trip to Yosemite memorable.

Great property and great host
Excellent stay!
It’s inside the park, very close to glacier point road, short drive to the valley. The gas station in Wawona is a very short drive from the house.
The property is pristine. All the provisions needed for a couple or a small family is there. Tom is very friendly and informative. Thank you Tom, for the excellent wine. It was very much needed after a long trip and drive.
I have already recommended this property to all my friends. I’m planning to come back to Yosemite in the future and will definitely stay here.

This was the perfect property for our family's Yosemite adventure. Great location, abundantly appointed home. Furniture and bedding in excellent condition and very comfortable. Wonderful family vacation
My family of four loved staying here as a jumping off point to exploring Yosemite this summer. The property was just as it appears online - clean, spacious, well-maintained, etc. Tom and Theresa went the extra mile - such as providing us with a screen for added privacy for our two children sharing the living room alcove beds and offering sage advice for making the most of our stay with two little ones.
Overall, we loved our stay and hope to return again!

Magnificent!
We felt so lucky to have stayed at Alpine Escape for our Yosemite trip. The location is terrific, the house is super clean and cozy and our hosts (Tom and Theresa) were exceptionally responsive and personal. Tom took the time to answer all our questions and more provided us with lots of valuable tips. Staying in the park is a real advantage to escape the big lines at the entrance every morning, especially as we were there on memorial weekend. For us, it could not have been any better!

Tom was a treasure trove of information about hikes and natural history as well as a great host. Our flat was comfortable and immaculate. He takes wonderful care of his rental and guests alike.

Convenient location with wonderful hosts
Our family of four really enjoyed our stay here - the location was great for getting to the valley and to the west/south of the park, and Tom and Theresa made a wonderful, cozy home away from home for us. Communication was clear and detailed, and as a bonus, because they are so familiar with the area, we got some great recommendations for places to take our kids that were not in the normal guidebooks. Hopefully we can come back and see Yosemite in another season!

Great location for "in the park"!
Very clean and well equipped with very helpful property hosts that were very knowledgeable about "things to do" in the park. We would revisit this property in the future.

Great House for family
This is a great place for a family while visiting Yosemite. The kitchen is well equipped and clean, there is a twin bed with trundle bed by the corner of living room, eating area living room, equipped with in-house washer dryer, and a nice outdoor BBQ and a cover space to sit outside. The bathroom is clean and upgraded and there are nice touches throughout the house. The owner was easy to communicate with and very quick to respond to any/all questions we had. This is a wonderful house while we are Yosemite and I highly recommend it.

Wonderful place to stay!
This rental has everything. It is centrally located, amazingly clean, and offers a ton of amenities. The owners are absolutely the BEST. They offered help (Tom actually fixed my leaking radiator hose) and all sorts of great advice on the park. I came home and immediately booked my next stay with them. This is just simply a wonderful place to spend time while exploring Yosemite Park.
