Impressive décor. However, they need to address cooling issues. We could not enjoy the property due to lack of efficient air conditioning. The two bedroom ac units functioned ok. The third unit in the separate suite struggled to get the room cool. The kitchen unit was horribly inefficient. The small kitchen adjoining family room ac unit did not work. All other shared spaces were entirely open to the outside, including the kitchen. The oppressively hot August months made it extremely challenging to occupy any shared area as a family. We arrived at a house that was extremely hot with no instructions for the ac controllers. It was a process to get any working units going, operation isn’t obvious. One controller lacked a battery, and another one required a code to use. Overall, the hacienda was clean and was well stocked. However, after the initial welcome to an uncomfortably hot house we discovered one of the beds had hair/eyelashes on it. Not ideal for sheets that are supposedly fresh. I was also disappointed in the lack of response from the owner. I reached out with my concerns. I did not hear back until multiple messages later. He did share that they were having a family issue. However, to date, I have not heard anything back from him about my concerns. If you are looking for a home to enjoy time together as a family, reconsider Casa Sur during any of the hotter months in Merida. We ended up leaving and finding another option to stay the rest of our time in Merida.

We LOVED our stay at this property. It is a perfect blend of curated, old-school Yucatan with beautiful artwork and furnishings and modern amenities. Soft, comfy beds, a wonderfully appointed kitchen, fluffy towels, nice size pool, and lovely indoor/outdoor living. We enjoyed having coffee out by the pool. The time of year that we visited was very hot (April) so we appreciated all of the fans. There was an issue with the internet the first few days we arrived, but the hosts and on-site manager were very communicative and had it fixed fast. The property is in a very tropical location, so be ready for insects and such. The property had good pest mitigation and screens on the windows, etc. Great walkability into the city center and easy for UBER drivers to find us. We highly recommend this house!

This stay was magical. We enjoyed Casa Sol and highly recommend. Great location, easy to navigate to all the hot spots. My wife enjoyed all the fun decor and artwork through out the house. The pool and outdoor space made our trip special. Just beautiful.

We truly had an amazing experience staying at this lovely home in Merida. The pool and porch areas were beautiful and perfect for cooling off on the hotter days. The hammock by the pool is a slice of paradise. We easily all fit in the home and having a separate casita was nice. Communication with the home homeowner was easy and always had quick responses. The groundskeeper was amazing-helped us every day, gave us advice for adventuring in the town, fixed anything that didn’t work. We had a rental car which made getting around easy and quick access to the beach but the house was a great location to easily use Uber as well. Would highly recommend this house-it will help you have a true Merida experience.

The home is absolutely gorgeous in every detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there with the pool, the large kitchen, and the multiple places to relax. It was a holiday weekend, and we would have liked to see the house manager a little more frequently, but that was understandable. The house is a 25 to 30 minute walk from the center which we enjoyed as we are all walkers. Taxi cabs and the local bus are also very available. all in all, a highly recommended home to visit Merida and Yucatan!

We loved our stay at Casa Sur. It’s so lovely inside and outside in the garden. The pools was used many times a day, as it was very warm while we were in Merida. The kitchen is well stocked, there were plenty of pillows and towels, and we really appreciated the purified water and ice available in the fridge, and drinking water at the kitchen sink and casita kitchenette sink. Alex takes amazing care of the home 4 times a week, and is responsive and communicative, despite limited English. We were able to enjoy a free walking tour in the center of Merida, and drove to Uxmal archeological zone, the chocolate museum (the monkeys were a fun surprise!), Cenote Kankirixche, and Hacienda Mucuyche. A fun excursion that worked out well on our own without the high fee. Hire a guide at Uxmal and you’re all set.
We really wanted a chance for our kids to get a more Mexican and Mayan cultural experience, away from the resorts and big hotels. Merida was a great place and we recommend this home.

We had the most wonderful time staying at David and Gary’s gorgeous house. The backyard courtyard with the beautiful pool felt like a dream. The house had everything we needed and was absolutely beautiful and spotless. We loved everything about our trip and the house. Alex was super responsive and fixed the small little issues we had. Thank you David and Gary for your wonderful hospitality, for all the info. about Merida, and for sharing your amazing house with us! It was an unforgettable trip!!

This property is as beautiful in person as it is in the photos, and a very comfortable base from which to explore the culture of the Yucatan. The hammock by the pool is reason alone to book this place! It is easy to get from the house to the central historic square and tons of restaurants on foot in cooler times of the day or by a short, inexpensive Uber. There are many thoughtful touches like an outdoor bluetooth speaker, bug spray, and a comprehensive manual of suggested restaurants and things to do. Highly recommend.

Recently enjoyed a 3-wk stay at Casa Sur hosting family/friends. This is a fantastic colonial-style property with a perfect blend of modern amenities. It's equipped with a piped water purification system in the kitchen and casita so no need to muck around with bulky "garrafones" for drinking water. The pool is terrific after a day out and about in the Yucatecan heat and the garden space is wonderful. Guests all commented on the comfortable beds. A caretaker is onsite several days a week to handle the gardening, pool, general housekeeping and maintenance - a frequency rare with vacation rentals. The house is a very doable 1 mile walk to the main cathedral, but for those not inclined to walk, UBER is an easy and reliable option.
Because of the owners' many lovely art pieces the property is perhaps best suited for an adult groups or families with teens/older children. It would be a challenge to monitor toddlers or young kids.
In short, I hope to visit again. It was grand!

We were lucky enough to spend 4 weeks at Casa Sur and it's just as lovely as the pictures. While it is located in a less affluent area of Merida, we found our neighbors friendly and welcoming when we went out for our daily walks. It's also a cheap Uber ride to almost anywhere in Merida. The owners responded promptly to a couple of minor hiccups and seemed ready and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. My wife and I stayed in the Casita which was like our own private bungalow on the property. The Casita also has my favorite shower of all time! (Tip: Don't miss the handmade tortillas that are produced daily at San Soucci which is only a block and a half from your front door.) To summarize: We love Merida and we love Casa Sur.

Casa Sur is a beautiful house. We loved relaxing there at the end of the day. The furnishings and decorations helped to immerse us in the Mexican culture. The kitchen was well stocked and the rooms were comfortable. The casita allowed for some privacy in a lovely setting. The location was farther from the center of the city than we expected. We elected to walk, but an Uber ride might be more appropriate for many visitors.

This 200-year old colonial home has been stunningly restored and made a very comfortable base for us during our Yucatán trip. We really appreciated the good communication with Alejandro (Alex), who helped us with a number of things. I would love to stay here again!

Alex the local manager met us. He’s great. Our first impression was the house was fantastic. Looked just like the photos. However, we struggled our entire visit with the presence of rodents in the property. The property manager attempted to get it under control with traps and sticky boards, but it didn’t work. 5 days into our 10 day stay we finally reached out to the owners. This occurred when we were awoken by mice on top of us in bed! And after days of finding rodent feces throughout the main house: kitchen countertops, sofa, bathroom floors and showers. Smelled a foul smell in the kitchen and upon inspection we found a 5”+ mouse on a sticky board. Owner got next door neighbor to remove the dead rodent. Owner did what he could, but due to the way things work in Merida, any fix took days. Owners offered a $50/day ‘refund’ for our inconvenience, but this hardly addressed our anguish. The final insult was the morning we were heading home, I discovered mice had chewed into my packed luggage to get at a package of Emergen-C. If you’re still reading, and assuming the problem is solved, the house is great. Beautifully appointed throughout. Just wish we had had a different experience.

We chose Casa Sur for our group trip to Mèrida after researching many Haciendas in the Centro. The photos and reviews were great but our experience was exceptional! We had clear and prompt communication with our host and the caretaker keeps the property up beautifully. Initially we were concerned that the location was a bit too far from popular Plazas but it ended up being an easy Uber or 20 min walk. Mèrida and the Yucatán is an amazing location with friendly people, delicious (and reasonably priced) food plus stunning sights. We will definitely come back for another group trip to stay at Casa Sur to explore more of the area.

Our stay at Casa Sur was amazing. The moment that we walked into the home we thought the home was spectacular. The kitchen was really well stocked and we enjoyed cooking a few meals during our stay.
We did have issues with not having hot water in the casita, however David promptly organized plumbers to look into what was happening and resolved the issue.
I would highly recommend this property. It is beautiful, comfortable and is located about fifteen minute walk to the plaza.
We look forward to booking Casa Sur next year as the home exceeded our expectations.

Amazing Home!!
Casa Sur was the absolute best choice we could have made for our stay in Merida. Not too far from the main part of Centro, easy access to bus/uber and can walk to find taxis. The house itself was a dream! The pool was perfect to cool off froth heat, and the sitting rooms and kitchen were great common spaces for us all to share. Our family felt so comfortable throughout our entire stay. It was tranquil, very comfortable and the beauty was endless. Thank you to our hosts for such a great experience!

Casa Sur is an amazing property centrally located in Merida. The pictures do not capture the charm
A charming large Traditional house with beautiful pool and grounds. The pictures do not capture the elegance and authenticity of the home. The host and Alex were attentive and knowledgeable. We stay with two 12 year Olds and they loved exploring the grounds and swimming in the pool.

Exceeded expectations and really made our vacation shine
We are two 40s/50s couples that travel together frequently; two of us are originally from Mexico. We haven't been to Merida in some years and were excited to return. David and Gary's property really put a wonderful layer of icing on an already great vacation. The house is a stunning icon of period-appropriate Merida architecture that's been preserved and updated where necessary. The back garden, and pool area is visually stunning. There is a wonderful taqueria two blocks away and well-equipped supermarket 10 minutes (walking) away. Alejandro, the caretaker, is available to help should anything go wrong. We really appreciated the opportunity to stay in such a great place and will certainly consider it again if we return.

Casa Sur - una casa yucateca
Although I grew up in Mexico City, this was my first time to visit Mérida. We picked Casa Sur because we wanted to experience the charming ambiance of an authentic casa yucateca that also included modern perks. Casa Sur was impressive, spacious and decorated to honor the colonial era. During our stay, there was something new daily to appreciate or wonder about, whether it was the artwork, furnishings or the lovely tiled decorated floors. The outdoor patio living area is where we spent most of our time, visiting our daughter and friends from Mérida. It was beautiful and with a lovely view of the garden, reminiscent of homes in Cuernavaca. Nothing was amiss in the large gourmet kitchen outfitted with everything you could possibly need.
We also walked or took Ubers to el Centro to shop, visit the museums and people watch during the day and in the evening. Our dining experience at Apaola, Agua de mar and Pita Mediterrean was exquisito. Finally, I would recommend visiting Hacienda Mucuyché where we took a tour of an hacienda and swam in the cenote and into the caves with a guide. We would love to visit charming Mérida again and stay at Casa Sur.

Perfect outdoor space.
The outside area is idyllic. What the photos do not show is how comfortable the seating is and how warm the pool is unlike the other two houses in Merida we have stayed in. The annexe at the bottom of the garden is fabulous and my husband used it as his office.

Beautiful Casa Sur
Casa Sur is an outstandingly beautiful property...both house and grounds.
The fabulous art collection is very tastefully curated
However the most important thing for my family and I was the responsiveness of the owners and the support staff.
Alex the house manager was perceptive and anticipated our unique needs given our party included elderly parents
Gladys the coordinator was a gem. I lost my phone in a taxicab and after my initial panic I called Gladys who made a few calls and my phone was returned to me within half an hour.....in a city of 1m people! Gladys also waited up to let us into the house until 1:00 am. She was also super helpful with arranging taxis and transportation to Progresso
Manon the chef recommended and arranged by Gladys cooked Yucatan specialties that were absolutely delicious. Manon's food and level of service was superb. Highly recommend her.
We felt integrated into the neighborhood when we followed David's recommendation of purchasing delicious bread and pastries from the door to door bicycle vendor and were almost pavlovian to his tooting horn
David the owner was prompt in all communication and their well appointed kitchen made preparing meals a breeze.
Would definitely recommend this property
Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us.

Merida magic!
This property is amazing! From the moment I walked through the front door I was in love… the architecture and the building is believed to be around 200 years old. It is so perfectly located to the city center, and easy to get in and out of the city for day trips to Mayapan, Uxmal and Chichén Itzá!
We had 7 people and that was a prefect fit, 8 would be pushing it but 7 was perfect!
If you are considering Merida, just do it! The host David was so awesome and made our stay very special! He was so knowledgeable about dining and museums, and he even assisted us with where to get our COVID testing done for the return trip home.
Thank you David for everything!
Aloha from Hawaii,
Michael G.

Amazing Home Walking Distance to Centro
The photos do not do the grandeur of this place justice. 4 of us were more than comfortable for a week. 20 min walk to Centro. House had all of the amenities you could want including a chef's kitchen and separate Casita with a kid bed. The hosts were proactive about checking in and Alex the caretaker was there for whatever we needed including letting me in when I locked myself out at night. Would definitely stay here again.

Charming and comfy
I stayed here with my dog for ten nights. The house is very historical, and I loved everything from the architecture to decor, landscaping, and all the thoughtful amenities. The hosts keep the place well stocked with everything you could need, and the shower is great and the bed was comfiest one I've slept on in Mexico. Alejandro, who takes care of the home, was incredibly nice. My dog got a cut on his leg and Alejandro grabbed the first aid kit and patched up my dog without a second thought because he is a nice person. I'd definitely come back here anytime and am grateful for the days I spent here.

Great Place, An Architectual gem!
Beautiful 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house. The kitchen is fully equipped with a commercial full sized 60 inch stove. Nothing is overlooked from bedding to towels. Great soaking pool. Wonderfull architectual details, mosaic tile floors and owners personal art work.

Paradise Lost.
The hacienda is beautiful. It is now located in the middle of a hotel construction site. The dust from truckloads of rock being dumped makes it impossible to keep the property clean. The air quality is terrible accompanied with the smell of burning trash daily. The cacophony of construction and the air quality makes the property unusable. The construction also stirred up sand fleas causing extreme discomfort. The owners were not available due to the pandemic. I left the property 10 days early due to the border closure. I have not heard from the owners since I departed.

Beautiful hacienda . Completely Equipped.
This historic hacienda that is exquisitely decorated and equipped with everything anyone could need. Alejandro, the property manager couldn't have been more helpful. He was available 4 days a week to change linens, empty trash, sweep the patios, and even share information on places to visit. Appliances are full sized and in good working order. The pool is for cooling off not for serious swimming. The grounds and the house are filled with beautiful exotic plants. Beds are comfortable and each bedroom has it's own full, tiled bath.
One bit of advice - Getting around Merida can be confusing at first. We had rented a car at the airport and got really lost finding the property. I recommend taking a cab to the property when you arrive and then renting a car if you need one.
We absolutely loved Cass Sur! It was a privilege to stay there.
