My wife and two daughters just finished our weekend stay and we had an absolute blast. The beach and dock were excellent. There were plenty of water toys and the water is crystal clear. The grocery store is close, the Maine Wildlife park is just down the road, and it's not far off I95 so it made for a pretty great weekend getaway. We will hopefully be back next summer. Thank you Peter!

We booked this site because of the lake, the location to Portland and golf courses, and the ability to bring our dogs. We were blessed that all 3 of our adult children got the time off, we were all together with my 90 year old Mom. The house was perfect, we loved spending the whole day in the lake, Peter supplies the paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, and a paddle boat. The setting was amazing, and our son proposed to his girlfriend on the dock in front of our family!!! It was a perfect week in the perfect spot, we will be coming back for sure!!!!! Thank You Peter for such an amazing location for our momentous event!!!

Very clean and well supplied with everything needed for a relaxing week. The owner was available for questions when needed, but was not at all intrusive. The dock was not available due to the excessive rain, but Peter made arrangements with a neighbor to use their dock for our boat. Very nice.

Peter is a great host. The lake is lovely and clean. Getting into the water is gradual and sandy, which made it easy for our grandkids to walk in and play where it's shallow or jump in off the dock. They loved swimming to the floating dock. Lots of chairs for sitting by the lake plus kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. The house is as described and very comfortable. The separate "apartment" below the main house worked well for our two families. We had a great time. Thank you, Peter.

I stayed at this house with my mom, dad and adult daughter. There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and enjoy the week. The house itself had everything we needed and then some! While we didn’t have the best of weather, we thoroughly enjoyed time on the dock, in the paddle boat and kayak, and the beach. We could have easily stayed another week and loved every day.
We drove to Freeport for shopping, Portland and Cape Elizabeth for sightseeing and Boothbay Harbor area for the botanical gardens and a whale watching excursion. Everything was a bit of a drive from the house but I knew that before booking. We wanted to see Maine and all the different countrysides so this location ended up being perfect for us!
Thank you for opening your house up to us so we could experience Maine together. Memories were made that will last a lifetime ❤️

Incredible spot!
What an amazing oasis. The house is very comfortable, well appointed and right on the beach! Peter was a gracious and responsive host. Lots of thoughtful touches, kindling and newspapers for s’more fires, buckets of water by the door to reduce the amount of sand one tracks in, etc. Perfect vacation. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful week at Peter’s rental on Sabbathday Lake! Lovely, well equipped rental—plentiful kitchen and cooking supplies. We were very happy and Peter was a gracious and lovely host. Great spot for kids with the nice sandy beach and lots of interesting things to do in the area! Would happily go back!

Two Weeks on the lake
We chose this property for its proximity to a family member who owns a house on the lake, and we rented it for two weeks. This property is nicely landscaped and situated on the south end of Sabbathday Lake. A wall of windows in the living room provides a spectacular panoramic view of the lake and its surrounds. The water is shallow and crystal clear and just steps from the door. The kitchen is well appointed with a nice set of dishes and everything you need for cooking, even a good set of knives. The house has two separate entrances, which was perfect for the days our adult children visited - they used the studio apartment which afforded them privacy and their own bathroom. It is located near a main road, but the traffic on it is sparse. The owner is genuinely nice, lives nearby and was extremely responsive, including replacing a piece of furniture that didn't meet our needs.

Beautiful sandy beach with fire pits and fully stocked with wood. Kayaks, canoes, paddle boat and boards. Stocked kitchen. New High end washer and dryer. The list goes on and on. We give this place a 10🌟

This is a great rental. It has everything you could want, very clean and everything is as it looks on the website. The beach area is wonderful and lots of great sand for children to play in. There are 6 paddle boards, 4 kayaks, 2 canoes, a paddle boat, fishing equipment and life jackets. Great for families that love the water.

Awesome view
Very clean, amazing view, my family had a great stay here. The beach area is shared but never crowded or more than a few people around when we stayed. The owner was friendly and available to help throughout our trip. Would definitely recommend!

Great stay, wonderful owner
Have stayed at many vacation rentals and this one ranks near the top. Great, flexible owner, A+ cleanliness, super location. I had misread the description and thought the beach was private but it’s shared with the house next door. No issues at all, we still had the beach to ourselves, just good to know.

Great week!
Peter was super helpful and answered all questions very quickly. The house worked perfectly for two couples since we each had our own space. The only thing to be aware of, if your looking for a really private place to stay, this isn’t it. The beach is shared with other families, and although everyone is very considerate, we still found it to be a bit awkward. Also, there’s traffic on the road behind the neighborhood that can be loud.
All in all though, it was fun! Location to Portland is convenient, the sunsets were beautiful, and the house fit our needs.

A delightful summer house with an excellent beach and wonderful view of the lake. Restful and tranquil. You could hear loons calling day and night. My family and myself had a wonderful time.

This property is truly a gem
Beautiful and serene, it was the perfect place to get away from the city for a weekend. Loved getting out on the water for a bit, plus aside from one or two other couples we had the corner of the lake to ourselves as the summer crowd had come and gone.
Inside, lovely design combined with everything you could need , thoughtfully provided: Mr. Peter was very helpful and responsive to all our questions.

Simply perfect lake house!
This place is incredible! A great location right on Sabbathday lake but also in terms of proximity to Portland and surrounding towns. The view from the living room over the lake is amazing - especially at sunrise! My husband and I rented this and Peters next door property for our friends and family to stay at leading up to our wedding - it was the perfect setup that allowed everyone a comfortable place to sleep while providing the perfect spaces to hang out together. Everything was perfect during our stay and Peter was an A+ host - very accommodating and quick to respond leading up to our stay. We are definitely coming back!!

Waterfront getaway in ideal Maine location
This was our first stay at this property and we hope to return. Complete with kayaks, canoe, paddle boards, and all the lake toys you could want, this is a fabulous family vacation waiting to happen! We wanted to be close enough to Portland to enjoy shopping, yet out of town enough to feel like we could enjoy privacy. The sandy beach in front of the house is perfect. As a host, Peter is quick to respond to any questions or needs. We loved our stay!

MAINE AT ITS BEST
We've been renting in Maine for several decades, and so I can say with authority that this is one of the best houses we've rented. Here are some of the reasons: clean lake, beautiful beach, all kinds of boating and paddle boarding equipment, excellent bedding and firm mattresses, sharp knives in the kitchen! (a rarity in Maine rentals), plenty of towels and pillows, far enough off a highway to be quiet (most of the time) but close enough so that shopping, dining and used bookstores are nearby. Peter is a superb host who lives nearby. Always attentive, but never obtrusive. When we had a plumbing issue, he made sure a plumber was called right away. He also has a great eye for interior design. And, one more thing, this morning we saw six loons - two parents and four babies. We've already booked for next year.

The Best Maine Lake House!
This lakefront property is AMAZING! The property is impeccably cared for by Peter, the most responsive, attentive owner we’ve rented from. It’s everything you could imagine and more for your Maine lake experience. Book now, you won’t be disappointed.

Everything we were looking for!
Our stay at Whip-O-Will on Sabbathday Lake was just what we were looking for. The cottage is exactly as depicted in the pictures, and just a few steps from the lake. It has been beautifully updated with many thoughtful extras, but still retains the charming features of the original cottage. The view from the living room is nothing short of spectacular.
The kitchen was well-equipped for any meal prep; we did a full-blown Maine lobster dinner and had everything we needed, from kettles large enough to steam lobsters, down to the nut-crackers needed to crack the shells.
Most importantly to us, the lake was literally a few steps from our door, and there were ample opportunities to take advantage of this beautiful location. We enjoyed swimming, canoeing, kayaking and the little paddleboat that is there. There is a firepit on the beach and plenty of kindling and logs available for evening campfires.
We felt fortunate to see the resident loon up close several times during our stay; he appeared nearly daily, and came near enough to shore to really appreciate his beauty.
Peter, the owner, greeted us upon our arrival and was quick to respond to any questions that we had during our stay. He made us feel very welcome; we'll be back!

PEACE!!
Total relaxation! This was our first trip to Maine to visit my brother and his family—I can now see why they are so in love with this state! The view from this house overlooking the lake will put anyone at complete peace. Sit outside, enjoy watching the kids use the provided life jackets, paddle boards, 2 person paddle boat, kayak and canoe while taking in the breathtaking scenery. Thank you Peter for a wonderful stay!

Everything you could possibly need for the perfect Maine vacation!
This property exceeded our expectations; the cottage has all the amenities, and the lake view was amazing! The owner, Peter, was so kind to check in with us after we first arrived to ensure that we had everything we needed...really appreciated that personal touch!
Our only regret is that we did not have an opportunity to use the wonderful outdoor space the owner has created for guests as we were constantly "on the go" with local family.
We would definitely rent this cottage again!

clean,quiet, and comfortable.
Great spot. I really felt at home here for my stay. The design allows for a comfortable place for a family to gather but everyone can have a space for their privacy. I spent most of my time on the lake or the beach and was able to catch colors of both the sunrise and set. Great opportunity here for fishing bass and trout. id strongly recommend bringing your fishing gear.

Beautiful, well-equipped and furnished vacation home
Property was just as advertised--immediately on the waterfront of a quiet lake. Beautiful lake views, sunsets. Easy access/very close to highway. Close, albeit quiet neighboring lake homes.
Very clean and well-maintained inside and out, well-equipped kitchen and anything needed is there!
