This place was very clean, bright, roomy (for 3) and relaxing. The host responds quickly to messages and check in is simple. We appreciated the simplicity of the check out process as well.
The location is on the "quiet side" of the island with quick access to the the Bass Harbor light, Wonderland, and Ship Harbor trails as well as Seawall.

Property was clean and well-stocked. Mary was responsive. When the power went out on the island, she even came to the property to check in with us. House is less than 10 minutes from Southwest Harbor, which has a cute little downtown and awesome restaurant (Drydock Cafe). We would definitely return.

We love this little cottage. Mary is a wonderful host and our week stay here was great. Highly recommend this cottage for a vacation on MDI (quiet side).

The house was just as described. Very clean, organized, and comfortable. Mary was very communicative and easy to work with. House was a great location, convenient to Acadia, towns, and restaurants. Wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend staying here and would come back again.

This home was perfect for my family of three and there was room for more. It was situated very close to Bass Harbor so we walked down a block every night to watch the boats come in and saw spectacular sunsets from there. The house is very clean and well-outfitted with everything we needed. Definitely will rent again when we come back to Acadia.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay at this cottage and our interaction with our host, Mary. We loved being on the “quiet side” of Mount Desert, and still were able to enjoy beautiful hikes that were 5-10 minutes away. Mary was willing to bring us anything we needed during our stay—gas for the grill, toys and a wagon for our children. The cottage felt cleaner than most hotels I’ve stayed in. Would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for an Acadia vacation.

This property was one of the best VRBO's I've stayed at! The home was CLEAN, with extremely comfortable mattresses, cotton sheets, comfortable pillows and plenty of towels. Great water pressure in the shower with no skimping on the hot water. Property was spacious, especially the kitchen (very well stocked) with so much counter space if you decide to cook, which we didn't since there were many great restaurants for eating in or take-out within a 10 minute drive of the home. An excellent location in Bass Harbor to avoid other crowded areas of Mt. Desert Island with 2 Acadia Park trails with stunning views of the Maine coastline within a 5 min. from the home. We took the ferry over to Swan's Island for the day which was so easy as the home is literally a 2 minute ride from the ferry (pack your own food if you do go to Swan's Island). The owner is so lovely and we were fortunate to meet her. Excellent communication and answered texts within minutes with questions I had. Highy recommend and can't wait to go back to this gem again - Staying here was definitely a contributing factor in an excellent vacation to Acadia!

Cute place. Had everything we needed during our trip. Close to Acadia but away from all the Bar Harbor shenanigans. It also put us into a location to hike away from Park Loop Road. We had a couple of great hikes in the Southwest Harbor part of Acadia. Close enough to Bar Harbor for shopping and food when we wanted that. I’d stay again.!

This is truly a very nice property. Exceptionally clean in every way possible you could want. It felt like you were staying at a relative's home with all the things you need including hand soap and kleenex and a clean beds and lots of towels, etc. There was even fresh flowers to great us!! Great location if you want to be out of the hussle & bussel of the tourism sights. I was sooo glad we stayed there and would definitely recommend to others and if I ever get back to the area, this is where I want to stay again! Thank you so much.

The cottage is exactly how photo'd and described online: very clean, bright, sunny, uncluttered yet providing all the kitchen equipment I needed as well as many other necessities. Lovely vase of flowers upon arrival! Mary walked down to say a quick hello first day while I lounged in the yard. Warm and friendly, willing to answer questions and provide any help needed. I hiked most days in Acadia NP and it was a pleasure to return to this haven for relaxation later in the day. Quiet, comfy, safe for solo female traveler but would also be great for a couple or small family seeking getaway from noisy rentals in the "non-quiet" side. Would love to stay again on a return trip.

Charming little cabin! Mary the host has worked hard to make it an enjoyable stay for her guest, clean, bright and well stocked. My husband and I loved the location because it got you away from the crowds. We were able to watch the sunsets at the harbor and there are two easy trails within a short drive just passed the light house that are a must see! Definitely would stay here again!

This was our second stay at this property and once again we were very comfortable. It is spacious and open. Four adults were very comfortable. Bass Harbor Island Cruise's Nature Cruise is walking distance from the house and we highly recommend it. We will be back!

Nicest rental & manager ever
You'd never know this cottage has been rented to people for over 20 years--it is so clean & in the BEST location. Much preferred the quiet side.
Mary was so kind and attentive, too. It was nice to have a personable manager for a change rather than someone who cranks renters in & out.
Our only "complaint" was there's no washer/dryer in the unit. She doesn't say there is in the listing, so it's not like we weren't informed. I just missed that detail. So pack extra, especially if you have small children who like to explore like ours!

Comfortable little cottage
We liked this sweet little place! It's well stocked. The kitchen is large and comfortable to cook in, the beds comfortable, linens soft, and I loved the vaulted pine sided ceiling. Mary placed a vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen table, such a beautiful and thoughtful touch. We would definitely stay again. Beautiful scenes nearby - Bass Harbor Head Light, ship harbor & wonderland trails, flying mountain trail, and sunsets!

Great location to explore Acadia from
Excellent property to base from to explore Acadia National park from. Very clean and comfortable with all the basics. Very quiet location. Less than a block to view the harbor and a short walk to the harbor itself. Beautiful sunset over the bay.

We had an excellent time while there. Accommodations were perfect for us. Everything was squeaky clean and the fresh flowers were such a nice welcome. Quiet area too.

Awesome cottage!
This is the perfect cottage for exploring Acadia National Park and all of Mt Desert Island. Mary made sure everything was perfect for our stay. There's lots of space inside and outside. The full kitchen had everything we needed to prepare breakfast every morning before our daily explorations. And there's many great restaurants close by. We walked across the street nearly every evening to see the amazing Maine sunsets. The cottage is within 20 minutes of Bar Harbor and the ANP Visitor's Center. We would definitely book again!

Quiet refuge near Acadia National Park
Loved the location. A quiet street close enough to access all of Acadia Park - but away from the crowds. The house was comfortable, clean, and well provisioned. Communications with the host were first rate - friendly, informative, and responsive. Hope to come back.

Excellent
We enjoyed our stay at this property. Owner thought of all of the details of traveler to provide needed items at the property. Cleanliness, location and everything about it was great. Actually pictures on the website doesn't do the justice the way property looks and feels. We highly recommend this property to anyone who would like to visit Mount desert Island and Acadia National Park.

Maine Cottage
We really enjoyed ourselves in the cottage. Mary was a great host, the cabin was spotless - had everything we needed. It was right across from a lake, had good eating spots close by (Seafood Ketch and Hanson’s Dairy), and very close to Acadia National Park, where we spent most of our time during the week. We were greeted every day by three or four deer, which live close by. Mary’s husband was an old car nut, so we enjoyed sharing stories and pictures together. I know where we’ll be staying the next time we visit Maine - Mary’s cottage!

Cottage in Bass Harbor
We were welcomed with flowers on the table and a note from the owner which was nice. Everything was in great condition and very clean. We had an excellent view of the bay, only minutes from the Bass Harbor lighthouse, and deer all over the property. We traveled daily to Bar Harbor and it was less than a 30 minute drive. Mary was very accommodating and available to our last minute needs including us locking ourself out of the cottage on day 1. I would definitely recommend staying here!!!

Great place for us
We spent a week in the cottage while we explored Mount Desert Island . The cottage was cozy and perfect for us . The bed was very comfortable. We were fine with the location because it was a quiet place to come after a day out . We bbq with the gas grill most evenings. We had a walk to bass Harbor every day . We pretty much had everything we needed .
PS .. the fresh flowers when we arrived were a welcome sight !

This little cottage was amazing.
This cottage was adorable. So cute, clean, just adorable! The landlord(s) were awesome. The hurricane IDA came through mid-week when I was 2 hours away so thy set my bicycle into their garage to keep it dry! I was able to score some good pricing on lobsters (got 10 of them) and they set up an outdoor burner so I could cook them outside in the air (no hot house here!!) and I cleaned them, froze them and took them home....yummy! I would ABSOLUTELY stay there again without hesitation if I go back. My only advice is, beware, the hot water is 200 degrees (yes you can make coffee straight from the tap!), if you plan on cooking meals there and need special equipment, check with Mary to see if she has it up at the "big" house. There is no blender ( I bought one for my smoothies and margaritas!!) no crockpot and no spaghetti pot/strainer. BUT, like I said, Mary will bring it down from her house if you need something. They just could NOT be any better hosts. I miss them already! Thanks Mary!

Wonderful cottage in Bass Harbor
We had such a wonderful stay at this cottage in Bass Harbor. The cottage is clean, comfortable and location was perfect. We enjoyed being close to Acadia National Park, only 20 minutes away. Bass Harbor is also a beautiful town, we took the Ferry to Swan's Island and visited the Bass Harbor lighthouse. We loved our trip to Maine and want to come back again next summer.

An experience beyond our expectation
First of all, the cottage is spotlessly clean and the fresh flower on the table is a delight. Our host Mary provides all the necessities for us to cook our breakfast before heading out. She even provided an outside burner for us to steam the lobsters in her lobster pan because the next guests are allergic to seafood. She is very considerate and responsive to all our questions during our stay. We had a wonderful vacation and couldn't be happier with the cottage. Thank you Mary

Wonderful stay in Acadia
We enjoyed our stay in Acadia and this house was a great base camp. It was exactly as listed and in a vey quiet neighborhood. It was 10 min to Echo Lake and about 30 min to Sand beach in the park. The house has everything that you would need and I would definitely stay there again. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and she was very welcoming !!

Fantastic cottage! Would stay there again
We had a great time in Maine! My wife found this cottage. The info and photos matched what was offered. Just a 5 minute walk from the harbor. Nice, quiet area. The owners checked on us and stayed in touch. Highly recommend place to stay.

A Quiet Side Gem
This is the first time in our 17 years of vacationing on MDI that we would want to advance book so we can be sure to get this newly found gem on the ‘Quiet Side’ of MDI.
This “Quiet, Modern Island Getaway Cottage” is, just that, a gem which is larger than our apartment at home. When searching for an affordable place for our vacation on the island this spring, we came across this listing and couldn’t believe we found the perfect place.
On the day of arrival, our ‘home away from home’ was ready for us ahead of check-in time. We were greeted with fresh flowers, refreshing air from the open windows, and a personal note welcoming us.
After walking through the cottage, we were immediately pleased with the choice we had made because it was more delightful than we imagined. If we, as seniors, were to have a place to live in Maine, it would be a cottage similar to this.
Some words to describe this gem:
*Spacious
*Refreshingly immaculate
*Airy with ocean breezes
*Tastefully decorated
*Well-equipped
*Irresistible price
*An inviting glimpse of Bass Harbor from the living-room sliding doors
*A short drive to Gotts Store (1.4miles) – the best cream puffs, which we order a day ahead
*The so close Seafood Ketch restaurant (.3mile) on Shore Road across from Leighton
Mary, as a host:
Exemplifies the goal of hospitality
Thank you Mary for providing a ‘home away from home’

Affordable Luxury for the Budget friendly family
Place was perfect. Located 1 mile from Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The Ketch restaurant was superb and right down the street. This quaint, out away from the crowds place could not have been better. We did most of the outdoor stuff on that side of the island. Bar Harbor is about a 30 min drive from here, but the towns you go through to get there are scenic and enjoyable. Beds were comfortable, couch also folds into a bed if necessary. We bought food at the grocery store (5-10 drive up the road). Cooking meals, grilling hamburgers outside, saved us $. The only issue was no laundry option, but there is a laundry mat in SE Harbor (10 min away). I would stay here a hundred times if I could. Everything was clean and perfect. Forget the hotels and b&b’s, stay here, enjoy MDI, and use your saved $ for other adventures. A+ rating.

Comfy and wonderful!
We had a lovely time at Mary’s cottage. It was sparkling clean, with fast internet as we worked/schooled from home, and excellent provisions for cooking meals. Water was hot, beds were comfy, and the cottage was super close to many awesome hikes in the quiet side of Acadia. Main park was a quick drive away, as well. The cottage has a nice yard for kids to play in, quiet residential street for biking, and even a view of the water. We couldn’t be happier with our stay and hope to return. Thanks, Mary!

Bass Harbor Cottage
This little cottage worked perfectly for our little family of 4! Mary was very welcoming and responsive; she left some fresh flowers and the lights on for our late arrival. We used the WiFi for work/school in the mornings, and spent all our free time in Acadia National Park. The WiFi was fast and reliable, the kitchen was well stocked, the space is quaint and comfortable. It is very close to Bass Harbor lighthouse, great tidepooling at Ship Harbor Trail, and Seafood Ketch Restaurant for some great takeout. I would highly recommend this place for a getaway in Maine with great access to Acadia.

Wonderful and very comfortable lodging!
While not fancy it had everything we needed, with a lot of extras that made it comfortable. Mary had taken great care to provide everything we needed, even a beautiful vase of fresh flowers to welcome us! The beds were very comfortable and we appreciated little things like fans, and clocks in the bedrooms, and a pot big enough for lobster! We used the outside grill multiple nights and it worked great (It does use 16 oz propane bottles, but 1 lasted us the whole week, but you might want to bring one). Very clean with up to date appliances and lots of dinnerware and pots and pans. Thank you Mary, we really enjoyed our stay!!
