About this house rental
A nature lover's dream....
The large windows of this rustic home look out on the San Francisco Bay and the trails of Mount Tam are literally right out your door. It's hard to believe that San Francisco is a mere 14 miles away when you wake up to deer in the garden and the smell of pine.
There's a large patio surrounding the property from which to enjoy the ever-changing vistas of San Francisco and Mt. Tam . And despite the mountain setting, it's only a mile drive down to the quaint Mill Valley town square.
This cozy artist's retreat is located at the head of a hiking trail which will take you as far as Stinson Beach (if you've got the energy) or as close as the little stream about half mile down the fire trail.
A large fireplace, terrazzo floors, eclectic antiques and interesting old books... It is very much a retreat whether you want to stay put & relax, sail or mountain bike, experience small town life in Mill valley or explore the many sights in San Francisco.
Sleeping: 2 bedrooms (1 king + 1 queen)

We loved the charm and uniqueness of this home with top marks for the view and outdoor spaces! I could sit on the patio forever! The kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. My teens loved looking through the extensive book collection and we even played a couple records on the turntable! Susan was super easy to work with & accommodated us for an extra night.
My only feedback is that b/c there isn't traditional HVAC systems in the home, the air is a bit stale & dusty. We opened windows & put on the fans which helped. Perhaps the curtains could be laundered to freshen things up a bit as well?
All in all, we enjoyed staying here and visiting the surrounding areas for the "nature" portion of our vacation.
Thanks for having us!

This house was not only amazing but also so interesting. The decor and construction makes you feel like you stepped into another time. The bedding and towels were of great quality. The house and kitchen were very well stocked for cooking, entertainment, and relaxing. We had our 5 year old daughter and it was very comfortable for families. We all enjoyed the books, unique decor, and bright windows all around. Our favorite part was the record player. It made the whole vibe complete!
The view was the most breathtaking. We really enjoyed having meals outside and exploring all the little areas around the yard.
The drive up the mountain was easy and the owner was very descriptive on how to access the property so it was breeze. We even had some deer greet us when we arrived lol.
We will definitely make plans to stay here again, as we love San Fran and this house is centrally located to our favorite spots downtown, Napa, and The Muir Woods. Mill valley was a great little town to visit for coffee, little shops, and grocery shopping.
Til next time!

The house of Susan is an exquisite combination of a very comfortable interior with an exceptional view on SF bay from the terrace of the garden.
House is nicely equiped with stylish furnitures and modern kitchen. Beds are extra comfortable.
The surroundings are extremely quiet.
South terrace and garden are facing the bay while from the North terrace you have Mount Tamalpais facing you.
Trails are passing right along the garden.
Mill valley village is a 5 minutes drive with all neceassry shops and restaurants.
SF downtown is 20mns drive.
Sausalito ferries are also very convenient to reach the city with a nice sea trip.
Susan is extrememy reactive and does her best to make your stay perfect.
A great souvenir.
No doubt we will come again.

We were in Mill Valley for a celebration of life and we were pleasantly surprised with our stay, the house and view are so incredible, you really can’t get a sense for how special it’s is until you’re there in person. Highly recommend!

This property is a special place. I would absolutely recommend booking it. Plan your trip so that you have time to spend hanging out at the house and walking the nearby trails.

We loved our stay in this Mill Valley gem. The 360 degree views were to die for. Communication with the host was friendly and prompt. The property had mid-century charm and was well stocked with everything we might need for the week. We would definitely rent again.

Outstanding from top to bottom. This property and the host are perfect. If you like mid century modern architecture this is the place for you. Relaxing, private, conveniently located but out of the way- I could go on and on. A little tricky getting up the hill to the residence but the view more than compensates for this and cannot be adequately put into words. I've been traveling for almost 50 years and cant think of a better overall place to stay. This house really made the trip superlative. Would stay here anytime.

This dream home was built with cutting-edge architectural details, even by today’s standards, with furnishings and garden spaces to compliment the perfect union of indoor-outdoor living. The house was clean, comfortable, and I appreciated that the kitchen has stainless steel pots and pans in good condition. My only change would add a screen door in the kitchen. Communication was equally impeccable.

My husband and I just stayed here and it 100% exceeded our expectations. Great house in a great town with a great vibe. We would definitely return and hope to some day!

Four of us traveled from all parts of the country to attend a memorial so we were wrapped in sadness. Our friend Maria had immigrated from Cuba at age 9, was an interior designer in New York, had a home in Mill Valley and summered in Spain. She was married to an artist. We immediately felt she had a hand in us choosing this very special home. The artwork, the wonderful pieces throughout that were curated from Spain, the fun book that shared the history of this 1959 home and the spectacular views of the city and Mount Tam.
When we drove to the property we navigated a steep road with twists and turns and, once we got to the top of the road that dead ended at the door of this property, it felt like we could touch the clouds!
Many times "vintage" equals old and musty, lack of water pressure, old appliances, etc. Not this beautiful home! It is a time capsule complete with modern conveniences. We had so much fun selecting albums and playing them on an actual record player!
We sat outside in the sunshine enjoying the landscape and sharing memories of our dear friend. The sadness lifted (some) and we talked about how Maria would love this place. Thanks to our wonderful host for sharing her home. It was cathartic and exactly what we needed!

This is a beautiful property and a fabulous house. Proximity to downtown Mill Valley, 30 min drive to Stinson Beach and trails steps from the house. This was my second stay here and I can't wait to return.
4.8
We had a wonderful two-night stay in the house. The views from the house are beautiful, it's a direct hike up Mt Tam, and the house itself is a preserved family treasure. I highly recommend reading the house book to learn about the history of this authentic mid-century home built by the current renters' grandparents.
4.8
Not only is this a wonderful location for proximity to San Francisco and the surrounding area, but the view from the front of the house is spectacular looking out at the bay and San Francisco. There is hiking right out the back door. You are just 20 minutes from Muir Woods National Forest and 30 minutes from San Fran. The house itself is an amazing step back in time with lovingly preserved mid century modern details throughout. The property is beautifully landscaped and maintained. The pictures do not do any of it justice. The beds and bedding are very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare many meals. We would stay forever if we could. Thank you so much for sharing your property with us.

This wonderful property feel more like a sanctuary or a trip back in time. The outside is as beautiful as the interior is so lovingly kept in its original form except that the kitchen appliances are fully updated, which was so helpful.

Incredible property/ home with amazing views. The owner Susan is great to work with; very good communicator, makes everything easy. This is a very special place.

Such an amazing home. We really enjoyed stepping back in time (with modern conveniences) for a few day's.

Previous reviews say it all. Most peaceful location.

The house is situated high on a hill above the town of Mill Valley with a view of Mt Tamalpias on one side and San Francisco and its bay on the other. The property is beautifully landscaped with many hummingbirds flitting among the bushes. The property and views can be appreciated from inside the house because of numerous large windows. Though only with two bedrooms, the house is quite large with, for example, a separate study and a 20-foot ceiling in the living room. Because of the original owner's relationship to Spain (and enthusiasm for Don Quixote), there is much Spanish art and artifacts. The kitchen is modern, and everything in the house worked except for the entertainment system though with the help of the owners, we eventually got access to some Apple+ films. In sum, if we ever spend much time in the Bay Area again, we will try to rent this house.
4.8
The house is beautiful and setting was terrific. Views are unparalleled. The beds were comfortable and the owners were available for questions. Check in was a bit confusing. Had to call to find the key. House could use a deep clean, as it smelled a bit musty. Overall we were grateful for this time together in a beautiful setting.

Amazing mid century house appointed with wonderful furniture and art. Great views - even downtown San Francisco! So peaceful and quiet!! Will definitely stay here again!!

We had a phenomenal time staying at Susan's lovely home. The views were incredible and the house felt very private. Susan was easy to communicate with and the house had everything we needed. We will definitely be back again.

We had a wonderful stay in this unique house. The view is truly breathtaking, and the house has a great history and feels like home. Very well appointed, great light and views from every room, comfortable beds, and lots of entertainment options. We enjoyed hiking around Mill Valley and visiting San Francisco, but one day we spent just enjoying the house. A wild turkey joined us on the patio! We'd definitely stay again.

Well-appointed home in a relaxing, beautiful location. We had a wonderful visit with family here!

The view is absolutely unreal. The area is stunning and is just above town. I got the impression from the map that it was more “out of town” - bust its right up the hill. It is in fact better than the pics. Based on the original 50’s vibe of the place I thought for sure it would feel more tired and dusty. It was immaculate, clean and orderly. My musical partner and I (Jackopierce) were in town playing Bob Weir’s legendary Sweetwater Music Hall in town. We were able to to take a day off at this UNREAL mountain top sanctuary reading in the sun, taking hikes and exploring the great little town of MV. We stopped at Whole Foods on the way in and also got food at the MV Market. The weather was spectacular. Kitchen was fully stocked and even had a handful of snacks and coffee.

My husband, our adult daughter, and I enjoyed our 4-night stay in your charming home. The views from the house and the property are incredible! The home is spacious with plenty of places to curl up with a book and watch the ever changing skies. We took the suggested short hike from the property the day we arrived and did some hill work climbing Summit Ave another afternoon when the rains stopped. None of us had been to Mount Tam before, and we enjoyed hiking there and experiencing more amazing views. Mill Valley is a charming town with some excellent restaurants. Thanks for a great place for a relaxing getaway.

Truly unique property and destination. My daughter had her wedding at the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley and this was the perfect place for us to stay. We had a few visitors for dinners and brunches and everyone raved about the house and view. We were able to hike right out the back door. Susan was a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Susan.

This is a very special home and we had a wonderful stay. The home and its furnishings and artifacts are family treasures. It is mid century because that is when it was built and furnished, not because it has been “done”. The pieces that aren’t of the period are there because they have meaning to the family. The trip up to the house is a bit of a challenge. Lots of winding roads to the top of the ridge line. But you are amply rewarded by the views. We were there during storms. Maybe if you amble up in the summer the trip is more mellow. But we loved being there, had great communication with owners and look forward to returning.

It’s hard to find words to describe this property. The views are absolutely stunning from every direction. The house is amazing and comfortable - truly a mid century modern gem. There are several outdoor spaces to lounge and enjoy those awesome views. We picked this location for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. A short drive from San Francisco and to wine country in Sonoma. Had everything we needed, was super comfortable and an incredibly romantic venue. The trails right outside were perfect and the town of Mill valley was adorable with lots of restaurants, shops and a great market. Our hostess was very responsive and flexible. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Beautiful views, well kept landscape, and the house had everything we needed (& more)! Also, there's a perfect hike right from the property which we enjoyed because it didn't require any driving. Highly recommend this place!

What an amazing mid-century retreat blending with the surrounding nature with an ever changing and mesmerizing view of San Fransisco as well as Mt Tam. The ancestors of this home had great style and attention to detail. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and we enjoyed barbecuing every day. Thank you, Susan, for your prompt responses to our questions. We hope to stay here again for a quick getaway amongst the trees.

We found this rental experience to be very easy. The manager, Susan was responsive and friendly. We had no problems.
