We originally booked a different Southern Belle managed house, but found out the day before check-in that it was damaged from the tropical storm. They were great with communication, and offered us three other homes they manage for us to choose from at no additional cost.
The house was beautiful and was a perfect fit for our girls' trip weekend. The bedroom on the top floor was very hot upon our arrival (Savannah in August, to be expected), but there were only 6 of us, so we did not have to use that room during our stay.
Everything was clean and well-stocked. We did a few puzzles, and enjoyed gathering around the dining room table to play games. A representative from Southern Belle checked in during our stay to make sure all was good, and they sent a handyman out to look at the front door and the kitchen faucet. Great communication, and great place to stay!

Overall, we had a good time. The location was near places we wanted to visit. We appreciated having enough seating at the dining table and living room for everyone.
We contacted Southern Belle Vacation Rentals about some issues. A cleaning issue was quickly resolved. Water closet had no light. The electrician SBVR sent the next day said that the fan/light had electrical issues and had to submit for approval to be fixed. He put 2 battery puck lights that were the only light source for the week. He also looked at the dishwasher because the dishes in the cupboards weren't clean nor the ones we ran through. There was nothing he could do because it was too old. He requested a replacement for approval.
The kitchen was lacking. Needed a lighter to light the stove burners. Limited flatware, 1 stemmed wine glass and 3 stemless. No potholders. Bathrooms and kitchen needed a deep clean.
The pool was great and the best feature!
Plenty of outdoor seating but some cushions were dirty and/or torn with stuffing coming out. Some chairs had ragged, rusted steel on legs. One Adirondack chair was broken.
The ensuite Mbath shower pan was cracked and broken and there was standing water in the corner all week. The paint on the wood toilet seat was worn off and looked gross.
Too many other things to list.

Well card for, scenic, & great location for all areas of Savannah. Parking was always available but getting out of the garage from inside was a challenge. Someone has to walk around from front door. Otherwise easily accessible. Enjoyed location & walk ability to a lot of places. Had some electrical issues but come out twice in one day & fixed that as well as Broken slats on one of upstairs bed. A couple of king beds to replace 2 of the queens would have been even nice. The bathroom attached to bedroom was minuscule & difficult to shower in that small phone booth size shower. Very impressive response to work request
All in all we enjoyed the stay & worked well for our family enjoyed the pool & house.

There were eight of us and we had plenty of space and never felt crowded. This is an older with lots character and all of us enjoyed the feel of being in a southern home.
We would stay here again. Thank you!

Property was close to the start and finish of the Publix race, however the pool was dirty and that was one of the reasons we chose this property, also the lockbox was not user friendly. Overall, good place to stay.

Our inter-generational family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the diplomat house. The house is very large with space for the entire family. Although there are a few things that could be addressed (rusted shower/bath fixtures and unsecured kitchen drawers), the house is in great condition for an older home of its size.
The location is perfect for anyone looking for a slower Savannah experience (think less noise, night traffic, gated back patio) with quick accessibility to the historic city center. The spot is also great for those with pets, as Forsyth Park sits right outside the door and a nearby dog park is just over 1 mile away.
Additionally the amenities are tough to beat in a house for a family. The pool, multiple tvs, enclosed courtyard, bus stop to the free DOT, and just inside the Downtowner pick-up area. I can't recommend the Diplomat house enough for families and groups.

Southern Belle was very responsive whenever we had a question! We were disappointed that the pool was not cleaned, but appreciated their response regarding the issue.

I really wish we could have been given information on the history of the house, you could tell that many stories had happened there. There was so much character in the building.
We loved walking to the park, every evening after we were done sightseeing. It was a great location.
The only problem we had was there were no trash bags.

We loved the property. The proximity to Forsyth Park was great. We booked the Old Town Trolley for two days and were able to board at the park. Garage and pool were great perks. We spent the hot afternoons poolside.

The place was nice, the property manager seem to get things done, my only issue was the neighborhood was full of rude people( not sure if they were from there or visiting like me) But things happen, all and all was a good trip. Very nice house, nice size pool for the space.

The kids spent as much time in the pool as possible. Everyone enjoyed their stay here. I did have to point out a few maintenance items.

The Diplomat House is a historical building in Savannah. It feels like you have stepped back in time. If you are looking for a spacious place to stay with historical charm, you will not be disappointed. We left Savannah feeling we had gotten a small taste of the old South. The neighborhood was great - close to dining, activities and shopping. It is close to a huge, tree-lined park which was great for our grandkids. The pool was a nice touch but the vacuum was not working when we arrived and the pool is only cleaned professionally once a week. Management was great and arranged an early cleaning the next day and everyone enjoyed the pool for the rest of our stay. Two things to be aware of about the property. It is advertised with a parking space in the garage. While this is true, it is not practical since there is a car in storage in the garage with a temporary fence around it. When we pulled our rental van in, we were unable to open the doors without fear of scratching them. Fortunately, there is adequate street parking. The second concern is that the upstairs bathroom which is shared between two bedrooms does not have a door. This did not caused privacy concerns since it was shared between our daughter and her kids but it might for others.

We had a great time in Savannah! The house was older and historical just the vibe we were wanting. The only concern we had was that the keys only work on the front door and you have to park in the back of the property. The lock box is old and could use an upgrade. Minor changes that could really make a difference.

Was comfortable for a big family, but needs urgent furniture update. Too many broke and old pieces of furniture. Looks abandoned in care of.

Good Day!
We absolutely loved Savannah and we loved the location of the Diplomat House.
With that said, we were very disappointed with the condition of the house and the way this house was listed was very deceiving.
For one, the house was dirty and in need of many repairs. It was vacuumed, and the toilets were cleaned, but the whole house needs a deep cleaning. There was spider webs and dust on the beams above the beds. There was dust in the corners of the rooms and dust bunnies on the floor. The walls by the light switches, also needed a good washing. The vanity in one of the bathroom’s downstairs had water damage on the counter top, the caulking seemed to have some mildew, the sink in the master bathroom leaked, not unless you turned the faucets really tight. The furniture and everything in the house just looked worn out, dirty and in need of repair! It's sad to see a beautiful house in the historic district not being taken care of.
The pictures on Southern Belle Vacation Retail did not match the house. It made it look like there was a lot of light in each of the rooms, but the house is super dark inside. Maybe when they changed the wall color from yellow to red made it darker? I think the pictures on the listing were taken years ago when the property was first listed as a rental. This is very deceiving, because it’s obvious it doesn’t even look like the same listing.
In the description we were supposed to have 2 parking spaces and there was just one space available to us another car was covered and stored in one of the spots. We had to park our second car on the street, which wasn’t really big deal, but the description said e had two spots. Also, the was garage was filthy. I couldn't believe the junk and dirt we had to walk through to get in and out of the car and the light didn't work in the garage, either.
With all that said, the thing that bothered all of us the most was on the second floor of the property there was two big private rooms with double wood doors that we did not have access to. Nothing in the description of this property indicated we didn’t have the whole house. These rooms were not in a separate area of the house that could be locked off, but a part of our house. It was unsettling not knowing if someone was using these rooms. We heard footsteps several times and doors opening and closing during our stay and not sure where the sounds was coming from. It almost seemed like someone was staying in there. That was spooky

The house just around the corner from Forsyth Park. The pool was wonderful.

This property was the perfect place for our girls weekend! The check in and out procedures were very easy and we did not incur any problems during our stay. We had plenty of space and had a great time using the pool in the backyard. Would book this property again in the future!

The house is a gem…and the pool a lifesaver…remember it’s a zillion degrees in Savannah in July. The house is a minute walk from Forsyth Park. A minute walk from a small grocer. A minute walk from the shuttle to historic downtown.

Easy dealings with property manager (and maybe the owner?) House was exactly as advertised. Cool book with history of the house - interesting read.
The biggest drawback was needed more parking. Street parking was difficult. But the garage was a blessing!
Very convenient walk to Forsythe Park & town. I would stay here again.

The Diplomat House is amazing. With Savannah charm, so much space for our family vacation with a private pool! Easily walk to everything and literally across the street from Forsyth Park. The location was perfect. We will be back!!

Great place for large family
We were in town for my son’s wedding and this was an excellent pace for everyone to get ready and hangout before the festivities. Plenty of space for everyone and we loved being walking distance from everything. Definitely would stay again, hopefully in warmer weather so we could enjoy the pool.

Thanksgiving family vacation from Orlando
Attracted to property because of location proximity to the historic district and the private pool. Being from Orlando, I didn’t think about the cooler temps and not able to make use of the nice pool and beautiful private courtyard. Parking was not a problem even with 3 cars. One car could go in the private garage and could have parked another parallel to the garage, but instead was no problem parking the other two vehicles on the street in front(non-metered). Walking distance to the beautiful Forsyth Park(just 2 short blocks). Property location was convenient for anywhere in Savannah. House was older, of course but with a lot of Savannah Southern charm. Kitchen was adequately supplied. Four bedrooms- 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs. Downstairs beds were perfect. Upstairs right could use a new mattress as reported in reviews from 2015. Very easy check-in and check-out. Would use the property again especially if we had a chance to come in the summer and make use of the pool and courtyard. Loved our entire Savannah experience!

Beautiful Home w/Potential; Needs Work; Pool Not Clean
This house has so much potential. As house flippers we’d love to get our hands on it. It has some fun features like the beautiful bedrooms and the history of the house. Some of the antique books were cool to look at. However we probably would not stay here again for a few reasons. The master bedroom cable wasn’t working. They offered to put a work order in but who wants to be concerned about either waiting around for the cable company or securing your belongings while they send a representative to be there with the cable company. We noticed a bunch of dirt in the pool. Called about it on Wednesday and they told us they’d contact the pool company but that they do service the pool on Thursdays. We were there until Sunday morning and they still never came. The kitchen needs some major help. While they had most of the essentials for cooking its a terrible layout and the cabinets are old and in bad shape. One of the drawers make a sound like nails on a chalk board when you open it. You could hear it throughout the whole house. Another odd thing we found was there are three rooms in the house that are locked. Owners suites. Lights were left on 24/7 in those rooms. There was also a broken article of furniture in almost every closet in the house. Master bath faucet was so hard to turn on and off all the way. Like I said, house needs work.

Fantastic Location
The house was exactly as described and the pictures were very accurate. It does need some updating, as it's a historical property, but that's to be expected. The location was fantastic - right across the street from the park and a block away from a great coffee shop, grocery store, brewery and restaurants. We would definitely rent this house again! The management company was great to work with, and the pool access on Tybee Island was a great bonus!

Great house!
House was a good size and in great location. Very easy to get in contact with Southern Belle regarding anything we needed. The only thing that threw us off a little with that there are two rooms when you go up the steps that were locked and it said private residence , and there's was a light on so we were a little unsure about what was happening there , but we contacted them and they told us that that is the owner's private residence when they come in and that no one was in there. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the pool was awesome to have on the hot days.

Looks NOTHING like the pictures!!!
We came to Savannah for a family vacation and to us location was key! We had 2 little boys ages (5 &3) so we thought a pool would be great. When we arrived at the Diplomat house, it looked run down, nothing like the pictures posted. There was barbed wire running along the fence in the backyard, and I would say the surrounding areas were not the greatest. The house is very old, the furniture was old and dirty, and not somewhere we would have wanted to sit and visit with our family. We found a cockroach in one of the rooms, which I know is common in the south but usually can be taken care of. The pool area was where we spent the majority of our time. It was nice to sit outside, the pool was very chilly but refreshing. There was a camera out by the pool, everyone knows what security cameras are used for, but when other people are staying at your property they should be turned off. Or we should have been made aware there were cameras. So basically we were being watched while swimming. I put a wash cloth over the camera when we were outside and the property manager came over to remove. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our stay, and was disappointed in the outcome.

My Stay
Overall I was very pleased with the house and the layout. However the beds in the house could use all new mattresses. Also it seems the pool could have been cleaned prior to arrival (full of leaves).
It was advertised there would be two private parking spaces (no street parking) but the owner left his car in the garage.

Hidden Gem of Savannah!
We thoroughly enjoyed the space in this home! We had a group of 7 for a bachelorette weekend. The pool deck, side yard, large common areas and bedrooms made our stay perfect. We will definitely be returning!

Girls Weekend
The experience was easy and the owners were quick to respond to communication. Our group was 7 women over age 55. We love Savannah and wanted to be close to the historic area and River Street. The location was perfect (walking distance to most everything), the house was comfortable and spacious with 4 large bedrooms and 3 baths. We loved the pool and patio and spent a lot of time relaxing outside on the deck when not exploring the squares.
