About this apartment rental
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, a 4 mile scenic bike ride to Kingdom Trails, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. The house is a artisan's dream, with built-in cherry cabinets, hardwood floors and concrete counter tops. Everything you could possibly need is here for a perfect Vermont vacation; wood stove, washer and dryer, fire pit, well appointed kitchen, trails to hike and snowshoe and a small cabin in the woods (with it's own woodstove). Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house.
I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.
Please let us know if you might be bringing a pet. We ask that they not be left by themselves in the apartment, unless crated..

This property was fantastic! We had gorgeous views, the apartment was much bigger than expected. Our dogs were welcomed and had a great time. We were a few minutes from all the trails. This place was perfect for us, we would absolutely stay again!

Property was great! We had a wonderful time. The apartment is larger than expected, and the wood burner makes it super cozy on cold VT days. The location had tons of art/sculptures to take in with the landscape. We had a young child who enjoyed the toys and books available at the apartment. I would recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in Vermont’s North East Kingdom.

Even though we just spend 2 nights here we enjoyed it very much. It’s such a beautiful location and the host is wonderful. We will return here for sure for a longer stay.

My fiancé and I loved our stay, and always a plus to have a place that lets us bring our dog! Great property and in the perfect location to disconnect. We love Vermont so this will now be our place to visit on the regular. Thanks again for such a great stay!

Lovely spot for a vacation
We had a wonderful stay. The location was amazing with a view that can't be beat. The space was warm, inviting and very clean. We enjoyed walking our dog on the trails out back. We would definitely return.

Beautiful view!
We stayed in the apartment for a long weekend in June as a family of 3 with our dog. The location is perfect for a weekend on the Kingdom Trails, just a 10 minute drive into East Burke, and with a stunning view and plenty of woodsy trails to explore. The apartment was cozy, spacious and comfortable, and our dog had a ball playing with the owners’ dog. A great weekend!

cozy stay for skiing and unplugging
very nice stay! my mother and i stayed in the lower loft that had a great view and a wood fireplace. meryl and the property manager rob were very responsive and helpful. wifi is a bit slow for watching a movie and the entrance could do with a few hooks and a place for shoes and coats. other than those minor details everything about this place is beautiful and relaxing! i want to come back in the summer to enjoy the hiking trails on the property!

Four Days In Paradise
Wonderful location, extremely clean, great layout and all on ground level, very private, the view was amazing! My family and I enjoyed our stay immensely. The owners, Meryl and David, were very kind and pleasant. They take much pride in their property. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Also, very talented artists. I can’t say enough about this home! This is our second stay at this property and stayed in the cottage for our first stay. The apartment is spacious and was easily able to accommodate our family. Mud season in Burke was crazy so it was nice come to the house on the hill.

Very private and beautiful views
Very nice location. Close to Lyndonville. Grocery store , etc. Panoramic views. Kids went sledding in the backyard. Will visit again.

Like being in another world
Property was very clean, appointed very well, kitchen utensils were plenty and home was very unique. From the yard/lot sculptures to the panoramic view to the actual unit and original art work, and unusual book collection. The entire home is an outstanding experience and worth a repeat stay. The stove/fireplace puts out a lot of heat and we even had a 1/2 inch of snow the evening of October 17th. but were very toasty! Gas grill right outside the kitchen door so convenient for cooking those outdoor goodies. Not skiers any more, we did enjoy the short drive to Burke Mt and it's modern amenities. Grocery store close by that has a good section of cooked take out foods.
Defiantly worth a repeat visit.

We had a wonderful stay here -- the views are amazing and it's such a peaceful spot. The caretaker was very responsive, and we were very cozy. It was a quick drive to Burke for skiing. We'd love to return!

Need to update the mattresses in both bedrooms. Too soft and squeaky. WiFi was out, no specific reason given by contact person. Basement apartment, but excellent lighting.

Funky and cozy!
We really enjoyed our stay in Kirby! The location is just beautiful and the house is very cozy. My husband, infant daughter and I, along with another couple, enjoyed walks around the property and some biking while we were there. The property manager was quick to respond to us when we needed him. We put the kitchen to good use and it was fairly well appointed (including a bath in the kitchen sink for our daughter!).

Wonderful location and retreat!
My husband and I absolutely loved the location of this rental property...on top of this big hill overlooking the beautiful Vermont hills and countryside. We've traveled and stayed at many, many locations and this one is at the top of our list. Just waking up and looking out the plentiful windows was jawdropping. There was lots of space for more than our party of two...two living spaces, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms. One of the bathrooms was a partial finish, but that didn't inconvenience us in the least. We loved the close drive (10 min??) to restaurants and grocery store. Ate at the diner there twice in two days...yummy. Also really enjoyed walking down the country roads and seeing all the unique properties and scenery. We definitely hope to return some day with more of our family:)

the listing said sleeps 6 but pictures showed only 2 bedrooms. When I asked about this I was told there was a 3rd bedroom which didn't happen to be true. In my case I would not have chosen to stay based on our needs. A little awkward....
Also,I think it is important that traveler knows the owners are upstairs not just local or however it was explained.
The owners were lovely and helpful, the place very clean. I would recommend.

Just perfect
We stayed at this wonderful cottage for 4 quiet and enjoyable days.
The place was just perfect for us (a couple + 3 young kids), beautifully and warmly decorated. We had a wonderful time. The cottage itself is very comfortable, with a beautiful view of the Green Mountains out back; it's extremely tranquil and quiet, yet close to Lake Willoughby. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. If you're looking for a restorative Vermont retreat, this is it!
