About this house rental
Casuarina Bay is an exceptionally beautiful, secluded eco-friendly beachfront home on the island of Eleuthera, in the Bahamas.
Just two houses share this very private bay on the Atlantic, skirted by miles of pink sand beaches.
Easily accessible, Casuarina Bay is just 1 hour by air from Miami, and only seven miles from Governors Harbour airport. It's located 1.5 miles northeast of the lovely village of Governors Harbour, one of the oldest settlements in the Bahamas.
The house was designed to take in the extraordinary views and off-shore breezes of the Atlantic Ocean from every room as well as the virgin land and spectacular sunsets to the west.
It nestles amidst picturesque groves of Coconut Palms, Papaya, Sea Grape, Sea Apple and Casuarina trees. The fragrant frangipani waft their intoxicating aroma while the hibiscus bloom fresh flowers each morning.
The property is also blessed with other exotic plants such as poinciana, sour orange, surinam cherry, soursop, sapodilla, and passion fruit.
Ocean-lovers will find some of the best snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming in the world. Underwater visibility is up to 100 feet, with water temperatures ranging between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
It's hard to find a more beautiful sea anywhere in the world. Sit back and delight in the changing colors of the sea and sky. Or jump in and watch the magic below the surface.
There's a barrier reef just offshore so Casuarina Bay Beachfront House has protected waters and no rip currents. It's excellent swimming for all ages.

The adventurous traveler can explore nearby islands and virgin coral reefs, swim with dolphins or exotic tropical fish, or charter boats for world-class bone or deep-sea fishing.
Other sports available on the island include sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, spearfishing, tennis, and surfing.
The rustic Beachfront House was designed and built to savor the incredible natural unspoiled beauty of Eleuthera. It's only 20 yards from its own pink-sand beach, so wherever you are in the house you have breathtaking views in all directions. To the east, you see the turquoise ocean and glistening beach. Looking to the west your eyes rest on untouched green hills and colorful Caribbean sunsets. At night the brilliance of the stars and moon are unforgettable.
This romantic wooden house sleeps up to 6, with 3 bedrooms (1 king, 1queen and one with twin beds that can be made into a king- also with A/C), 2 bathrooms, living and dining room, kitchen, decks on 3 sides (with 2 tables for al fresco dining). One of the bedrooms has air conditioning. The other two bedrooms and the living areas and kitchen do not have air conditioning, but instead, they have large doors/windows to capture the ocean breezes and fans.
There are 2 additional apartments (which sleep 2 guests each) underneath the deck on the ground level of the Beachfront house. These spaces can be rented along with the beachfront house to add a 4th and 5th bedroom and room for 10 people, including 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, and living space.s Alternatively, these spaces may be rented to other guests. These apartments have their own private entrances and do not share deck space with the Beachfront house so are private from each other.
Relax on our private beach in the thatched cabana, with a freshwater shower.
This is a perfect location for the adventurous traveler looking to enjoy the natural beauty of this magical island.

We had a magical time at this property. The sound of the waves crashing every night through the windows, the magical blue water out the front door and wonderful hosts

Look, there are probably a lot of places to stay in Eleuthera. You can sterilize it, pretend you are in the US. But that is not what you should go to Eleuthera for. This home is the real deal. It is made to take in the breezes and the sounds of the sea, right down to the small conch shells that serve as cabinetry handles. There is a lot of history in this place, and it is laid before you in the quasi-library that is the main part of the home. If you have children (ours are ages 5 and 7), they will absolutely love all there is to absorb here. Let go of your conceptions of what a luxury vacation should be, and stay in this place. Bring a snorkel+fins, be brave and start swimming 50 feet right in front of the house, and follow a trail of towering coral pillars teeming with life. Doon, the owner, is a local celebrity that lives closeby, and she knows what's up. You won't regret your stay here.

Absolutely fabulous vacation! Please note that our intent was a relaxed family time alone but convenient to our needs for meals or adventure if we cared to venture out. I love staying at a Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or the like... but thats not what we wanted here. If those places are feature films, our stay was a song or poem... different and unique but so wonderful in many respects. The home was hand built by the owner who has lived on the property since 1975. The home is decorated from an accumulation of generations of furniture, libraries, and art over the years creating a collection of the family that loves they're home. The views are astonishing from every room. Not all the bedrooms are airconditioned. Now that might scare away some, but I will tell you the multidirectional breezes and fan in each bedroom made for incredible sleep... we were all always comfortable waking very rested. Given all the activities and sun, most times we all fell asleep around 9 pm and were awake for the sunrise. The wrap around elevated patio is spacious and affords great lounging. The homeowner Doon is a fascinating person and very gracious host. She was onsite in a small home a little down the beach and always available for a question. We all found her so attentive and interesting as a long resident of Eleuthera. The beach at the home and both adjoining beaches were beautiful and we had them virtually to ourselves. There were so many things to inspire our time on the beach and the property that we only ventured away one day in 7... for 13, 16, and 19 year-old's, that says a great deal about the opportunities... snorkeling, skim boarding, kayaking etc.. The kids saw loads of fish, swam with a turtle and very close to a friendly dolphin. We cooked several times on the property and you'll find convenient grocery options a short 3-5 minute drive away. Everything necessary to cook or barbecue were there and we shared great meals. We did venture out and really must give high recommendations to The Buccaneer and LaBouganvilla. The meal at the 1648 Restaurant was exceptional but our decision to eat at 6pm on the balcony made for a really uncomfortable experience given the heat... we stayed in July just after the Bahamas opened from COVID19 and inside dining was not permitted. In closing... all of us unanimously loved our experience, would return in a heartbeat, and accomplished exactly what we set out for... great family time, unique adventures, & a recharged spirit!

If you dream of going to sleep with the sound of the waves in your ears, and waking up with the sound of waves in your ears, this is ideal. It’s a little rustic, but you can’t go to sleep and wake up that way in a fancy condo.

We loved the location: very easy beach access and only a ten minute drive to town for supplies. We were a party of six, four adults and two children and the house worked perfectly for us. The cabana and shower right on the beach was ideal! The large deck around the house became a wonderful outdoor, additional room. We couldn't have been happier.

Such a phenomenal beach home. Living space large enough for 5 adults on my trip. We never felt on top of each other. Full kitchen to prepare any meal. Immediate access to beach literally steps away. Kayaks and snorkeling gear on site as well as paddle boards. Beach is clean, has soft sand, clear blue waters. Just loved it. More than we expected but exactly what we hoped for

Wonderful stay. Our hostess was very gracious and attentive to the details of a wonderful beach getaway. Couldn’t find a better location on the island (nestled between two of the most distinct and enjoyable beaches on the island). The home had all the amenities to allow us to relax, albeit having so much outdoor living space and wonderful breezes limited indoor times to a minimum. We truly enjoyed the cabana by the beach which always stayed shady and captured the cool ocean breeze despit the heat of the day. Lucked out with clear skies and a full moon! Amazing. Recommend the vacation to all who are looking for a peaceful break from daily life where worries drift away.

We stayed at Causarina Bay in February of this year and loved our time there. I still wake up disappointed that I'm not back in the master bedroom where I woke to a gentle breeze, the sound of waves, and a view of sunrise. It made every morning special. The house was a great location and had everything we needed. Access to French Leave beach was easy, we walked to town several days, and loved the privacy. Having rented on Eleuthera before as well as in the Abacos several times, we've seen many kinds of rentals. This was comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed (ex: good wifi, coffee makers, sharp knives, beach & bath towels). The outside space - both cabana and deck - were ample and inside was very comfortable. Taja was communicative and responsive and very easy to work with. It's a great getaway if you're looking for peace and quiet. We'd definitely go back.

Arrived around 4PM to a locked house and no key under any of the dozen or so conch shells we searched. Calls and emails to Taja went unanswered for 1 1/2 hrs. Our neighbors in the Round House next door had the same problem. After almost 2 hours, the cleaning lady finally arrived to let us into a house which had not been cleaned or prepped and had no electricity (we lit lots of candles). In the morning still no power. As a result, all perishables had to be tossed. We did a walk through and were very disappointed. The house is beyond rustic and in need of a serious up-grade. If there were any electrical or plumbing codes, they were not followed. Many cupboard and closet doors are sagging, off their tracks, broken, etc. Notes are taped to many of the doors and windows. One note on an outside door says, "To close the door, push in gently, lift up 1/2" until it fits, then lock w/the wooden handles." The four bedroom house is very small. Eight people would be stumbling over each other. One bedroom is outside in a basement like area with no direct access to the main house. The hot tub was not usable. The outside areas and under the decks are congested with old building materials and junk in general. Electricity continued to be a problem. Calling the listed number for the power co. resulted in lots of busy signals. We finally drove into town and found the location of the office to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we were without power nearly half of our total time in the house. We have rented many vacation homes over the years. This was, by far, our worst experience.

Our family stay was great here, and the location was everything. French Leave Beach was our favorite beach, as well as the Twin coves beach which was all walking distance from the house (a huge plus).
The only thing I would say, just to help the owner make a better air bnb stay for large groups or families, is that it would be nice if some kitchen utensils and necessities were updated, such as the coffee maker (which was broken), as well as get new pans, maybe add a few other things like new kitchen knifes etc. We love to cook, so that was a bit annoying to deal with when you are staying in an isolated area and want to cook properly for a whole family. I found the kitchen lacking some key things. The "welcome book" with all the information needed for our stay, also needs to be updated. It was disorganized with many pages missing or not in order, so we couldn't use it. But that's really all. There is no AC on the top two bedrooms, in case anyone is wondering, but it was very breezy so it didn't bother us as much. The owner was very nice and solved some issues that came up during our stay, as quickly as she could. We also LOVED Cindy who works for the property owner and helped us with extra cleanings and fun island information. We would definitely go back and rent again if the kitchen was fine tuned :-) Loads of love and thanks again !
