Staff was wonderful. Extremely accommodating. They were able to meet us at the airport and the pier and lead us to the hotel. Which I recommend as the old town area of Lamu is a bit of a maze. The building has super authentic architecture and lots of outdoor areas to relax.
Nothing :)
The city is hot, and sometimes there were short power outages, but that’s at no fault of the hotel.

Jannat House is a great hotel, perfect located.
The staff is adorable and very professional.
It’s super clean and pleasant.

Old charm, lots of character at the place
Pretty terraces, faded beauty
The place is beautiful but rustic, a bit abandoned, but this has its charm to it.
Its good value for money if you are not looking for too much comfort.
Basic but good!

Nice swimming pool, helpful staff and good breakfast.
Got a different room from what I booked, old towels, pillows and sheets.

The location was central, quiet and serene. I particularly loved the rooftop chill area and the pool was a big plus because I love water. The staff were so friendly and it felt like there was always someone at my disposal, super convenient. The food was so yummy and was made on order and I thought it was fairly priced. Budget friendly and I felt really safe. 🥰

Jannat House is quite far from the main thoroughfare, but easy enough to find if you do mental landmarks on first couple of walks.
Jannat House has a small pool which is a big bonus as Lamu is humid!
There are also some nice outside seating areas beside the pool, and upstairs.
I was in contact with one of the staff beforehand through WhatsApp which was helpful.
The first room they gave me had a squeaky fan, and a bathroom accessed by a balcony in full view of the pool area. The door also did not lock from the inside.
I was provided with a better room but found it a little annoying I had to ask.
I didn't ask for an airport pick-up, but got one. On arrival (after an airport change and an 8-hour flight delay) I had to sit with this man and hear about all the tours he could give me, which I did not want ... and pay a tip for him giving me his time. I understand about the need to support local guides etc., but please do it on a more informed basis.
I was given very little hotel information by hotel staff ...e.g. if breakfast was actually available.
There is no facility at Jannat House, as far as I am aware to get a coffee, or a soda on the evening. Given that ... it really is only an out of the way place to sleep. The hotel could do much more to compete well with other comparable places in Lamu.
$50 for a night is too much, considering I paid $100 for my final night a Lamu House Hotel ... which included use of swimming pool, a relaxed environment, breakfast included, and a private boat to the airport.

pool
They had no microwave, no balcony, kitchenware as it said in the room specifications, there was no kettle to heat water just as they never gave us bottles of water as hotelsWhen they entered the room there was no hand towel in the bathroom and in the 3 nights that we stayed they never changed the sheets or towels.
We couldn't pay by card since they told us that the price would increase by 5% even though I told him that I was going to pay exactly what booking told me, we had to go out and look for an ATM so that the price wouldn't increase
the hotel and the rooms have a plague of flies

The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful. The decor was exquisite, simple and beautiful. The views, sounds and atmosphere from the terrace were magical. All around a fantastic stay.
WiFi connection.

Carol the manager was a great lady very helpful and always smiling. Ahmed also was such an awesome man
Well the furniture was too old the fan is not working properly

The staff at the hotel, especially Ahmed, was friendly and kind.
I feel like we got a bit swindled with the airport pickup. Before we knew it, we were signing up for tours around Lamu with no indication of the price. It wasn't clear if the hotel knew that was happening since the guide didn't seem to officially work there, but it didn't feel completely great, to be honest.

The staff were brilliant and helped to arrange a birthday surprise which was ready when we arrived. The pool was kept clean and was nice to have. The building is a traditional Swahili house with coral walls, carved doors and thatched roof, the real star here are the numerous outside areas, all with Swahili furniture. The breakfast consisting of fruit, tea/coffee and fruit juice followed by egg, toast and a variety of mandazi, samosa or pancakes etc was lovely and a great start to the day.
The rooms we were in could do with a lick of paint to tidy them up, although they were kept clean and housekeeping was every day.

- wifi not working
- value for money is very low even for 50 USD/night
- food in the hotel restaurant took very long and was rather local-ishly served, breakfast was very basic and its preparation was not well looking / not served as clean-looking which is A and Z for me (it can be basic, but make it clean and nice)
- private bathroom and toilet was accessible through a little balcony where everyone can see
- pictures and description are selling the place as looking much better than reality (cleaness not so good, restaurant not good and not clean, swimming pool small, distance from tourist places such as Shella and Manda is not mentioned, distance from any beach where you can actually swim and not a dirty harbour is not mentioned etc…). It is better to be clear and honest, not to create wrong expectations and not to make the guests angry from the reality and hiding important details when you come for a holiday and you want to have fun and chill. I would appreciate to sell it as it is and then it would be my choice
- the place could be easily made cozy and cute but many simple things were actually dirty and would have been easy to clean or repair (dirty moskito net, very old and long gone bed sheets and blankets and towels, closet’s door not possible to be closed, difficulty to close the room’s door, difficulty to flash a toilet, shared balconies for chilling have dirty/old pillow covers where you dont want to chill, kitchen and reception looks dirty - not safe to eat at etc.)
- the rooms are very small, so if to keep it that way to praise the nice history, everything in the room must make sense and be customed made to meet client’s needs, for example a shelf that makes no sense (not accessible and does take space for bed and other things to be able to move in the room) should be removed, acces to bathroom should be changed/remade,

The house is really beautiful and tastefully decorated, with a lot of lounging areas that are very inviting. Also great location, very close to the seafront and in a super friendly neighborhood in the middle of Lamu old town.
We got a room downgrade when we arrived. Although we booked a room with balcony, we got a small room that featured no balcony, but had a bug infestation instead. We eventually received our room with balcony once some other guests checked out, after 2 nights in the other room. The bed nets were full of holes, so we struggled with mosquitoes throughout.
Otherwise the staff is generally behaving like helping you in any way is a bother to them. For starters, they told us there is nothing to be done about the room, and we had to speak to the owner to get the room we booked. Second the most mind-blowing thing to me is that this hotel simply does not serve or stock any water. They never provide any drinking water, and if you ask them for a bottle of water, they have to go buy it from the market, which they will do very reluctantly and after asking for money first. It became so ridiculous we ended up just buying our own water every day, because it was so hard to get it in the hotel. They also don't seem to do groceries much, since half the food menu is not available. My friend asked them for help with booking an airport shuttle for the next day when she was leaving, and she was just told to figure something out by herself, as there are plenty of boats around. Mr. Karissa is generally helpful and was there for us whenever we needed help, but even with him, when my friend asked for his help to retrieve a lost piece of clothing she had left in one of the lounging areas, his response was first to say they did not find it, then to refuse to look for it as it was too early in the morning (nevermind that my friend had to leave the hotel to catch her flight), and only after she insisted, did he help her and they found the missing item. Overall, it's not a nice feeling when everything is so difficult to get, and since this hotel is really not cheap, you just end up feeling a bit scammed.

The room was clean, the staff was friendly and very helpful. The pool was to die for 😍.
The breakfast was bad.

The house is very pretty, full of spaces to relax. Breakfast is very good. They let us spend the day even though check out time was 10 AM.
Lack of cleanliness in the kitchen and swimming pool. They sent a person to pick you up at the airport without notice. The room was small and really hot.

Exceptionally accommodative staff and it has a serene environment.
Lack of back up in case of power outage.
3.9
The staff were kind and attentive.
The pool was nice for me (I'm small)
Nice and ample lounge areas.
Enjoyed breakfast.
The place needs a little facelift, especially the sitting areas, the seat covers were quite old and a bit dirty. Staff not in uniform or tags so it's hard to tell who is working there or not at first.
