We thought the actual look of the place was beautiful and the mix between modern and older building made it that much more special:
As a younger couple we noticed the place had more of an older residence but that didn’t bother us but might other younger couples. Everything on offer does suite all ages though.

We had a great couple of days here. A great location, as there is plenty to do and see in the area. The hotel is great for families as there are activities and space for them to run around and explore. With lots of families staying, it makes you feel more comfortable when your kids are running around. Staff were lovely and very accommodating.
Grounds were huge, and offered some great walks, but the outside of the hotel was in need of some real tlc. It was disappointing on arrival but rest assured the inside was lovely.

The rooms were nicely laid out, the whole place was very clean and the lady who served breakfast was very friendly and attentive
The evening meal was not great and the waiter was rushed despite there being few residents.
We received no communications about the swimming pool/changing room facilities (i.e. that the lockers, showers were not in use and that we would have to bring our towels down if we wanted to use the pool)

The room was nice. The restaurant waiting staff were courteous and friendly. Food was OK in general but not awesome. My partner had sea bass one evening which was awful - I didn't like it either (I was planning to have it the following evening). The menu doesn't change which is not unusual.
The grounds were really beautiful. Nice lawns and trees and we even saw deer.
This is not a spa. So no good if as we wanted a spa break. You have to walk across the grounds to get to the "spa" and then only the pool was open. We were warned that the jacuzzi was closed due to Covid but not the sauna and other facilities. Also you need to take your own towel!! as the spa doesn't stock any. We went back and fetched the hotel towels (as they had no staff to bring us any).
We had one night with no hot water - so no ability to properly wash after a swim. We reported this at about 5pm and it wasn't fixed by bedtime - at least it was OK in the morning.
On our arrival there was no-one at reception. There was a number to dial but it didn't work. Fortunately someone came after a while.
Some of the staff were great but others had a "don't care" attitude. You know management is absent went hotel staff just lounge about chatting!
The tennis court is not useable.
The chef needs to learn how to use an eggbeater.
Please note you don't stay in the "Manor House" but a more modern building to the side. I didn't mind as I quite like brutalist architecture but I know many others don't.

All of the staff that we encountered were just lovely. Very attentive and professional but not intrusive or stuffy! We also felt like we were the only ones there which was a very unique experience when staying in a stately home!
The food was average. However I accept that Covid 19 has made running a kitchen a bit of a challenge.
