Unfortunately I became too ill to travel and when I communicated and provided medical documentation, the staff/manager disregarded my situation and still charged me! I understand business policies, but I believe that policy should not supercede people. With the raise in viruses and being conscientious of public health, leniency would have been a better option. Even if a cancellation fee had to be charged, it should never be the full amount in verifiable situations.

The property is beautiful, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They encourage you to speak Spanish but are very low-key about it. It is right on the pacific warm ocean and you can hop between the pool and the ocean.
My only complaint is we wished they had more Costa Rican food. They have a seafood restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant. Both the food was a little overworked. We wish they had more authentic Costa Rican and casual restaurants. We did greatly appreciate the kids menu.

Magical property. When they turn all the lights on at night around the pool it’s incredible.

The food was fabulous, delicious, and artfully prepared, there was a vegetarian vegan menu, and the desserts was amazing. The staff was so gracious and giving and friendly. Loved seeing monkeys from the hotel room. Enjoyed the many pools. One of the pools was of normal width yet super long, really fun to do long laps in. Enjoyed the fitness center.

The hotel is located on the beach of Playa Panama. SUPs or kayaks can be borrowed free of charge at the hotel. We paddled quite a distance in a kayak. It was cool.
Bicycles can also be borrowed from the hotel.
The hotel room is spacious, comfortable beds, nice minimalist design.
On the territory of the hotel you can often meet lizards, iguanas, squirrels. And on the beach we saw the king.
Enjoyed the live music on Friday and Saturday nights in the hotel restaurant.
Delicious food in both restaurants, varied buffet breakfast. The staff is friendly.
Strongly bitten by mosquitoes and midges on the street in the evenings.
The floor in the room was always cold, and the hotel did not provide slippers.

The staff is very well trained. Through out my 5 -day stay everyone-cleaning staff ,front office staff, restaurant workers, beach staff-was gracious, friendly and good-natured.
This hotel is preferable to other nearby 5-star hotels ,imo, because it's smack on the beach;no need to wait for a shuttle ;no need to walk down (and up)steep hills ;no need to take transportation to a " beach club". I chose it over 4S and ADZ because it's much, much closer (12-15 minute taxi ride, versus 45-50 minutes)to Playa de Coco-where one can experience a local slice of Costa Rica life and eat in local restaurants along the malecón there.
Good wifi signal. The beds ,pillows and linens were divine. The rooms offer true 5-star level comfort . The front office/reception is well staffed.Never a wait.Always polite and friendly, however ridiculous the question. Very prompt and attentive beach service. Construction seems to have ended so place was very quiet. 3 delightful pools.Live subdued music on weekends.
I thought the food offerings were below par.Too salty. Not enough fresh vegetables or nutritional salads like arugula .Few dishes for those of us who avoid diary, eggs, meat.
I did appreciate they offered soy cappuccinos. It would be nice if they made fresh multi grain breads instead of the discount store brand of bread they offer as toast. The salmon Eggs Benedict was fabulous.

The construction noise while trying to relax at the pool was not enjoyable.

The property was absolutely gorgeous and clean and in these times the clean is probably the most important. The took the safety and cleaning standards seriously and at the same time it didn’t stop us from enjoying the pool, beach and other areas of the resort. The location on the gulf was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. It’s a smaller resort but I think that is what adds to the overall chill vibe.
The best part of our trip though was the staff and in particular Javier, Heidy, and Karla. They were so attentive and just made the resort feel like home for the few days we were at the El Mangroove. The drink and food recommendations were outstanding and they even introduced us to some local favorites. They never made our requests feel like a burden and went above and beyond for all our needs. I cannot praise them enough for their amazing service.
The only negative is that I would have liked more dining options but as it is a smaller resort, that probably isn’t feasible. We had all inclusive and the drinks lived up to that expectation (and they were not watered down or limited in any way) but the food options did have some limits and with such a limited number of food options, it would have been nice to have the ability to try whatever we wanted.

The hotel was upscale and elegant. The room was big and comfortable. The activity shack at the beach was great. The lunch and dinner were very good.
The breakfast buffet was surprisingly bad - very bland stuff. I went to this hotel specifically to get good wifi and get some work done. The wifi was the worst I found in any lodging I had in four weeks in CR. It was fine for ordinary surfing. It was not really sufficient for remote working, such as for Zoom calls.

This place is a dream. We wished we could have stayed longer. Everyone on staff really make a point of looking after you. I felt very taken care of - especially as I had a broken shoulder to deal with.
Not an issue at all, but would have loved a coffee maker in the room.
