Room was fabulous, great size, comfortable and lots of little thoughtful touches for our comfort and enjoyment. We had 3 schnauzers and they put us in the garden room. So lovely. We had the best 2 nights away before Christmas activities started. A well needed relaxation. Staff couldn’t do enough for us, excellent service. Loved every second, would highly recommend. Great location too.
Nothing 😃

Everything. Hospitality at its best. Superb staff and service, wonderful hotel steeped in history and character, great accommodation, great food. Perfect location.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
A massive thank you to the whole team.

Well appointed and spacious room. Full of character. Very good evening meal in the restaurant and excellent breakfast.
The room was on the second floor and there was no lift as it was a historic building. There were some discrepancies with our food & drinks bill but these were quickly sorted out by staff.

ground floor accommodation
could’ve done with less furniture replaced by one or two luggage racks which seems like an obvious necessity

The décor of the rooms was what attracted me on the website. Loved the purple, velvet tone mixed in with moss green. The dinner we had was absolutely delicious - the lamb special with dauphinoise potatoes was succulent and melted in the month. The glassware and carafe of iced water looked great. The blond waiter who served us was excellent and accommodated my elderly mother's small appetite by ensuring that she had a smaller portion of the dish she wanted. Breakfast in the morning was very good and we were served by a lovely lady who had just started working at the hotel. She was very kind and a great hostess. She asked us if had seen the lounge so thanks to her recommendation, we did. Great communication from hotel prior to visit. A little hand written note welcomed us in our room and decaffeinated drinks were provided at our request. The bathroom was beautiful. Thank you for an excellent stay. Would definitely recommend and come again.
It would have been good to have had a mention of where things were in the hotel other than our rooms upon arrival. Check-in was very efficient and welcoming. I believe one of the rooms was upgraded but the hotel are missing a trick in advertising their beautiful building. I noticed in the morning that people had used the room at the front of the hotel for breakfast. I don't know if we too could have used it but it would have been nice to know. Also, we wouldn't have known about the beautiful lounge had the waitress not told us at breakfast. It was very nice to have the booklet in our room about the history of the hotel but sadly, didn't have time to read it - maybe that would have told us.
In the morning, my niece decided against breakfast and I asked if I cd remove it from the bill. I was told I couldn't because the chef had put his order in. Understandable but a bit of a shame.

The breakfast was superb

Room nicely decorated and presented with a good tea tray although there was a used butter knife underneath the tray which made me think the tray hadn’t been moved to clean underneath.
Breakfast and staff on both days absolutely fabulous, well cooked and presented plenty of choice plenty of it and nothing too much trouble.
Lunch on arrival was a very poor smoked salmon sandwich. Two slices of v thin dry bread with two slithers of salmon with sinews making it impossible to bite through and three bits of pickled cucumber for£10+!!
Booked evening meal on first night, very amateur service. Two items we requested were apparently not available. Settled for second choice of beef which was very disappointing, not well cooked and not very hot. Complained about it but were offered a perfunctory sorry!! only to see slightly later customers receive the pies we had been advised were not available.
Asked for a particular drink the waiter didn’t have any knowledge of the products on the drinks menu, asked for rum but all on the menu were spiced. He actually brought us the menu to look at because he didn’t know the products.
Room was cold, heating ineffective. Advised receptionist who said she would try to find an extra heater. Eventually a shabby oil filled radiator was brought across but it wasn’t much better.

Room was upgraded so was spacious with lovely tea and coffee facilities
Very varied choices for breakfast.
Great open fire in the bar area
dinner menu could have been more exciting

Charming in an old world way; the decorations were lovely
My room did not have a refrigerator and the window led to the street, which was quite busy and therefore noisy at night.

the breakfast was lovely. room was well cleaned and comfy! we didn't have dinner but the breakfast was so good i just assume its great too! room was very nicely organised, and it was great having 2 double beds!!
everything was absolutely perfect and the room was lovely!! only note is that the waitress at breakfast messed up ours and another tables orders (only slightly but still) myself and my sister asked for our breakfasts without black pudding, and the young girl next to us asked for no spinach, we all recieved what we didn't want and were then not checked on after in regards to more drinks, whereas the older couples were checked on multiple times and served well. it seemed we were being less focused on because we're younger.

Spacious clean rooms, excellent value for money and staff very attentive. Food and hospitality was exceptional with our own private room for dinner and breakfast without even requesting. Lovely interior throughout and will defo visit again
Parking however if you arrive at the right time (after 5pm) parking isnt an issue and staff advise where to park.

Breakfast is great and the food staff were wonderful. The room was comfortable enough. Didn't look quite as great as in the pictures. Bathroom has not been updated like the room. Bed was super comfy. The room was on the second floor overlooking the main road through town. It was very noisy when I arrived in the afternoon, but was quiet at sleep time--important because there is no AC so windows need to be open. I understand they are planning more renovations. Overall a pleasant stay and good value but not perfect.
No one at reception desk when I arrived and no one seemed to notice I was there to check in. Had to ask, then although efficient, not particulatly welcoming.
