Everything on property meet the expectations
The bath tub did not work and they said they have to order another one. Then the reception advised that spa treatments will be available on Sunday but did not advise we should book a day before and then Sunday the relevant person for WhatsApp said they do not have therapist on Sunday unless booked and all was just crowned with a simple "sorry" imagine.the place was nice just staff communication sucks and preparations are not correctly done

I loved the rustic look, good views, spring buck near the pool, coffee machine in the room and fire place in the restaurant.
The wifi signal wasn't too strong.

The Blades were very comfortable, the setting is very nice. The rooms are very clean the staff are amazing, friendly and helpful. the fireplace was definitely a plus point, and the coffee was amazing. We enjoyed the dinner, was very tasty,
The breakfast was very tasty but cold. The aircon did not work that well, therefore the room was a bit cold for winter. Electric blankets would have been a plus point. It would be nice if someone could have assist us with our luggage. A bit difficult for older people to carry heavy bags up and down the stairs.

It's just okay, I wouldn't go there again though.
There are so many better places that are cheaper. There's no unique value proposition.

The staff was very nice and the food was excellent.
The dam smell like raw sewage, the toilet leaked.
We could not use the on ground facilities because of the rotten smell the whole day. We stayed inside the room the most of the day because of this, there were only bacic channels on the tv, SABC 1,2,3 and e-tv so we were bored most of the day.

Food was good and affordable, the staff does put effort into doing the work
The place smells very bad, we couldn’t even enjoy eating from the restaurant as it smells so bad.
Our room was dirty, there was dust everywhere

Firstly, the GPS location isnt at the correct area.
Secondly, the blades isnt great value for your money. There is plenty of places which you can spend around the same amount of money and receive a WAY better experience.
Thirdly, there wasn't a phone in our room (which is required when you are a 4 star establishment)
Fourthly, the pillows were quite hard, and the bed was made by combining 2 smallers beds. Was definitely not neatly made as well.
Fithly, the dining was appaling. They used casuals with no experience of waiting tables. Asked for a medium steak and received it well over done. 3 different tipes of cutlery, 3 different (very dirty) chairs.
Sixthly, the maintenance of the garden is unkept. Branches hanging over the road were you need to drive.
Seventhly, the receptionist didn't even acknowledge us when we came in.
And finally, Eightly, the security guard at the gate was smoking while he opened the gate.
This is highly unproffesional.
I would not recommend staying over at this establishment.
You will be dissapointed.

The staff at The Blades are lovely, especially the boys from the restaurant. Very friendly with heartfelt smiles. Willing to go the extra mile. We were spoiled. The food is very good, too. The rooms are spacious (except for the bathroom in Room Nr. 5 which is very small). Nice surroundings with lots of birds.
There were the same 20 songs on eternal loop in the restaurant... terrible. If I hear Jennifer Rush one more time I'll run away screaming.

Loved the location, the dam and how private the rooms were. It is very peaceful and tranquil... just perfect for that quick break away from the city.

I liked the rooms, the Luxury rooms were very big, clean and well organized. The location was very good, it provides that feeling that you are far away from home. The staff and the food was fantastic. It was the first time going to a vacation and have 0 issues. Special shoutout to Godfrey, he made the stay extra special.
I was literally happy with everything but I think they could add a few more lights to the rooms by the pool area as it can get a bit dark at night.

The Menu was limiting

Definately the breakfast. Perfect for a pregnant mama with a big appetite. My husband definately enjoyed the lamb and the service. The receptionists were awsome and very helpful.
The mushroom soup. It was incredibly salty. The restaurant staff responsible for setting up for putside dinning was reluctant to set up outside as they were yet to whipe the morning dew off the tables and chairs ( mind you breakfast is from 6am-10am). So I had to insist.
It would be helpful to get an escort to rooms especially at night when visibility is poor because of the lack of lighting on the pathways.

Our room was very spacious with a cosy fire place during the height of winter. If you take a bath you experience the magic with the fireplace lit.
Room service was excellent..all the food from the reastaurant was delicious..that goes for breakfast, lunch and dinner..very nice lamb shank! Compli.ents to kitchenstaff, the chef and waiters at the establishment..they truly are your biggest asset!
There is some maintenance related work in and around the main restaurant building..especially the decking did not feel safe to walk on. Broken down chairs, umbrellas and tables are on display everywhere. Our patio table at room #8 was totally unacceptably deteriorated and should be replaced. Also no shower gel or shampoo put out for a four star graded hotel room.
There is a lot of plastic debris and pollution from the main dam into the eco system..this should be cleaned by the hotel and neighbouring local communities as it cant be left like that in full front view of river facing cottages..something must be done to clean up the dam area around the establishnent.
General garden upkeep is necessary..the gardens are neglected. But it does not mean everthing is bad..it juat needs a good housekeeping and maintenance project to get all the broken items fixed and repaired

Dinner at the restaurant was amazing
Smoke from outside seemed to come through the chimney and aircon. Had a slightly unpleasant smell but other than that it is a beautiful room.

Check-in was without any complications, the receptionist (Melissa) was VERY efficient and helpful. We had the opportunity to upgrade our room. Marc (waiter) was exceptionally good and assisted us with what ever we requested. The property needs some TLC (table cloths, furniture, bedding) but overall our stay was beautiful. The food was of high quality.
The fact that the pool bar was not operational (this over a weekend) and we could not make use of the 'daybeds" without prior booking was disappointing, as it is a beautiful space for relaxation and just enjoying the scenery. The deck area needs some attention ie. furniture (chairs very uncomfy and sun damaged, table clothes not sparkling white and properly dressed.

The breakfast and dinner was very good, and the staff gave excellent service. The room was very clean, however there were some stains on the linen. The Wi-Fi in the room also did not work, however when you were closer to reception the Wi-Fi was perfect. The romantic turn down and picnic was exceptional. The views were spectacular!!
The stains on the linen and the Wi-Fi did not work. The receptionist gave the password and it worked around the main building, but we were in room 7, and it kept saying "The IP address could not be connected"

The Blades is a four star hotel with 5 star service from the exceptional staff. We had an enjoyable night away as a family.
The road outside needs to be maintained.
7.0 / 10.0
Conveniently located near the motorway and arterial roads.
.The balcony cane furniture chairs have seen better days and were unusable as the armrests were worn out and spikey.
