About this house rental
Hawkes Hill is a peaceful country getaway 12 minutes south of Golden with spectacular views overlooking the Columbia River valley hosted by Bill since 2015. Be wowed by our fully furnished, two bedroom self contained suite with a wrap-around deck and a million dollar view. We're proud to say that our guests continue to review us as SuperHosts through all these years.
When comparing nightly fees, please note that we do not charge an additional cleaning fee on top of your quoted fee.
Hawkes Hill is a fully equipped two bedroom suite adjacent to, but fully independent of, the owner’s home. The suite is full of sunlight and looks out over the Columbia River valley and the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Rockies to the east. Our guests tell us we have the million dollar view. To the north we overlook a wooded meadow perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and easy walks or hiking during the rest of the year.
The suite sleeps four comfortably. The master bedroom features a queen size bed. The second bedroom has two twins. (PLEASE SEE FEE NOTE BELOW.)
A large spacious living area off the bedrooms and bathroom makes up the rest of the suite and combines a kitchen and sitting area with a wood stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, dishes and utensils. Wi-Fi is available as well as satellite tv.
Price listed is for two people using one bedroom. For a 3rd and 4th person, add $25/night per person each.
PLEASE NOTE: our basic fee is calculated for two people sharing the same room. If two people wish to use both rooms for their comfort, please confirm with us before booking. Using both rooms increases our cleaning load and cost so we need to add a $25/stay fee when two people using both bedrooms. Otherwise we do not charge a cleaning fee. Thanks.
Minimum two night stay, however the constant feedback we receive from our guests is that they wished they had booked for at least three nights or more.
We live in the main house adjacent to the suite and are accessible if the need arises. We love meeting guests and hearing about their lives and travels, but we also respect a mutual need for privacy. For your arrival we have stocked the kitchen with tea, coffee fixings, cooking oil and some condiments to make you welcome.
We strive to provide a comfortable place for our guests to relax and enjoy their holiday, and we ask that guests are considerate and respectful of our home and beautiful environment. No smoking on the property, please. No parties. Please ask us about bringing your dog. There is a pet fee.
Surrounded by five national parks and close to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, we are situated in a breathtaking mountain wilderness only 3 hours from the Calgary International Airport. In the winter most guests are here to ski or board at the resort. In the summer, almost all of our guests will use Hawkes Hill as their home base to go off visiting all the sites like Lake Louise, Banff, Columbia Ice Fields, Emerald Lake etc.
As well as the adventure playground outside our door, Golden is well known for an active arts scene featuring two dozen concerts of music, theatre and dance annually. On the Valentine's Day weekend, the Snow King & Lady Spring come into town for our annual MasqueParade outdoor pageant in Spirit Square. Throughout the summer, there are free mid-week concerts featuring touring festivals artists in Golden's Spirit Square. Check out Kicking Horse Culture online for more info.

We knew it was going to be beautiful from the pictures, and they were exactly as I imagined it to be. It was so nice to have our own bedrooms, have space for dining and living room with our family. What made it special was Bill’s hospitality. We would love to return again in the future!

This property was fabulous! The accommodations were very comfortable and the bed as well. The location is quiet and there's trails in meadows where you can find quiet walks. Bill and Maggie were so helpful in suggesting places to visit. I loved the hot tub for soaking after a day of hiking. Bill was so responsive to issues that I encountered in losing my wallet. I'm so grateful for his assistance. Thank you for an absolutely, awesome stay!

The property was so quiet, peaceful and secluded. Was amazing to walk out and enjoy morning coffee on the porch with breathtaking views. The hot tub was a relaxing place to hang out in the evenings. The suite was clean and cutely decorated, and comfortably housed 4 adults for the weekend. Short drive to Golden and hosts were great to deal with. Would definitely recommend!

The kids really loved the wood-burning stove and the hot tub. The host made sure we had enough wood to keep the fire going every night. The place had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Would recommend to others, for sure.

The guest unit is a great addition to the private home and is very isolated other than a shared entry hall. The hot tub and balcony have the most amazing views of the valley, and the trails on the property open to beautiful meadows. My partner and I stayed here with our 1.5 year old dog and had an amazing time. The unit has ceiling fans which we were very grateful for with the heat and we were very close to town to enjoy the farmer's market and explore downtown. We also made a trip to Blaeberry River to cool off, it was great to be able to explore the valley and come back to the hot tub at night. We will definitely be returning next year!

We were delighted to arrive....however we thought VRBO meant and advertised whole house is ours so in this case owner lives attached....was not engaging and specifically told us not to use second bedroom...never said in ad we thought we paid for house. It was unseasonally warm and fan in bedroom didnt work...bed was poor quality as was bedding...many things advertised were not there like telescope,CD player( we brought our cds)pool table ,gazebo,bbq....never mentioned in as there are 3 flights of stairs with no bannister to hold on to for us older folks..
Frankly we left earlier than what was paid for and think a refund is in order for all the aforementioned items not actually there......we told owner that we had 2 dogs and never was it mentioned there were cats all around....We advised owner of broken outdoor chair, scratched walls from rocker which we never sat in and several lights burnt out....all in all a poor experience ..sorry

Our visit to Hawkes Hill was absolutely wonderful. The space is comfortable and very well equipped, with plenty of personal touches that make the stay just that much better. The bed and linens were comfortable, and the place was absolutely spotless. Bill was a pleasure to communicate with and offered us a walkthrough of the space upon arrival.
The views from the property and the hot tub were incredible and worth the trip alone.

We absolutely loved this property. It was very clean, comfortable, and had lots of charm. The view of the river valley was mesmerizing and the hot tub and wood stove took this place to a whole new level. Bill was a wonderful host who was extremely accommodating and welcoming. We will definitely recommend this place to all of our friends.

The weather was unseasonably warm so the snow conditions were not great for skiing but we had a very relaxing stay. The trails that can be accessed out the back door were great for snow shoeing

This was a great adventure, lots of snow, a little cold but we were prepared for that, nice hiking and fun in the snow, and the hot tub was great , Bill is very nice and respectful and if we needed anything he was more than willing to accommodate
Thanks Bill & Maggie for sharing your little piece of paradise with us.

The location and the views of the property were out of this world. The pictures definitely do not do it justice. The hottub was one of our favorite things about our winter stay.
Our host was friendly and the house was equipped with everything we needed. We definitely will be coming back

Bill was great to communicate detailed directions as to how to get there. Glad he mentioned that HWY 1 was closed because I know I would have forgot to check. Bill is extremely friendly and helpful with anything and everything that we needed and it was a pleasure to meet him and stay at his place. It was clean, quiet, with beautiful views and exactly what my wife and I were wanting and needing. We will be back no doubt about it.

Our host, Bill could not have be more helpful and nice! The major road leading to his property was closed down due to a bad accident just about 1/4 mile from his turn off. The police detoured all traffic (except the big trucks) up to a dirt/gravel road thru the hills. Bill stood in the light rain and cold wind for about 1/2 hour on the dirt road holding up a piece of cardboard with my name on it. As we drove by my wife said “look, that sign has your name on it”. We stopped and Bill escorted us to his house. Really, not very people would take the time and effort to do this. This is the kind of host and more importantly person he is.
The unit we stayed in was clean, tidy and very comfortable. Great view. All the kitchen pots and pans, silverware, and plates were spotless.
It is a very comfortable place to stay. When we go back thru that area we most certainly will ask Bill if his rental is available.
I give this unit and especially Bill a 10+ rating.

We absolutely LOVED this place. Full of light, clean, and comfortable (especially the queen bed), we stayed here for three nights. It looks out over an enormous green valley with mountains just beyond - the deck about doubles the size of the interior and we spent a good portion of our time there. It's well stocked and has everything needed for a short stay. Bill was extremely responsive to questions and took the time to meet us/do a walkthrough, and see us off - we SO enjoyed spending time with him (Maggie was away during our stay). It's a bit of a drive to services (grocery, restaurants) - maybe 15 minutes or so - but the drive is beautiful and our intent was to be in nature, not close to town. We would absolutely stay here again.

Communication was great from the start. We were welcomed at the door when we got there. The driveway is a bit steep but the place is worth it. With its friendly and experienced host, great views, cute, well equipped accommodations, satellite wifi, a friendly outdoor cat, and a location halfway between Yoho and Glacier, this place was a great home away from home for us.

This property is the perfect place to stay when visiting Canadian National Parks. It's quiet, private, clean and the bed is super comfy! The hosts are fantastic too.

Bill was great with communication and welcoming us upon arrival. We stayed for two evenings and were busy our entire trip so we used the rental purely for sleeping arrangements. It was a bit outside of Golden so it required a bit of a drive (15-20 min) to get to restaurants and stores/activities. Is not an issue for most because the rental is equipped with everything needed for meals. We just got in late and did not want to hassle with making meals so it required a bit of a drive.
However, the distance from town is more than made up for by the peaceful setting and the tranquil feeling of the deck. Such a relaxing atmosphere.
Bill and Maggie were so mindful of everything that they even equipped the space with an AC unit due to the high temps. Thanks for making such a welcoming space and sharing it with others. We recommend this rental unit for anyone visiting Golden.

Exactly as described with everything one needs. A perfect getaway even for seniors who enjoy quiet evenings with a million dollar view and even when a mountain thunderstorm roars by! Thanks to Bill, a most congenial and informative host. Be well all.
