No A/c in the rooms and sometimes can get a bit hot at night

About a mile from center and near a metro stop. Quiet area. Breakfast good, hard-working hostess congenial. Very safe behind locked entrance and 24-hour attendant. Clean, nicely tiled if small bathroom (was glad it was en suite).
Was initially shown room without window so check your bookings. The room I got was upstairs with a nice terrace and furniture. These rooms are small and close together. Evening chatter easily heard from common areas or next door. fortunately seemed to die down @10.

The host Angela was very nice and went out of her way several times to help me out.
It's listed as a hotel on Booking, however in my opinion it is more of a bed and breakfast.
Most of the rooms do not have windows, as a result there is no natural light entering the rooms. There was a ceiling fan but since there's no window you can't ventilate the room. The room could have been cleaned more thoroughly, there were quite a bit of missed spots.
The bathroom was clean but was very small. The hot water supply in the shower was a bit spotty, with the water suddenly turning cold at times. The furniture in the room was a little too rudimentary for my liking but I guess a desk is a desk.
The springs in the mattress were worn out which made the bed quite uncomfortable to sleep in.The rooms can use a little more soundproofing.
Overall, despite the low price I expected just a bit more. If you are on a tight budget it is an okay place to spend a night, but otherwise spend a little bit more and stay at a place that is more comfortable.

The staff was very friendly (not much English spoken, but we got by with hands&feet). The breakfast was freshly prepared and varied over the days. WiFi worked fine. Desk in the room was handy. Overall good value for money. Fairly close to a metro station and easy walk to city center. Cool traditional building with patio etc.
- More a residential area, with just a couple of little convenience stores but no restaurants close by.
- I had a room close to the entrance, and could hear everything happening in the hallway (people ringing to get in, watching TV in the patio, etc.)

Nice and convenient breakfast. With slight difference everyday
Location a bit far from city center. Busy streets, very loud cars. TV volume high up early morning and late night, receptionist doing karaoke all day. Hard to rest. Dog barking all the time. No key for main door, receptionist needs to open the door for you to enter or leave. Doorbell keeps ringing day and night. No respect of your sleep, refurbushing early morning !! Water freezing or burning

The hostess was very friendly and tried to be as accommodating as possible.
The house had good security
The location of the hostel did not feel safe. The first room I was offered was directly off the noisy dining room, had no window and a large damp patch on the wall.
The second room was slightly bigger but still had no window. The room may have been clean but it was far too old and shabby to make a difference. The walls and ceiling were like paper so you could hear everything! The night I was there a dog started howling in the middle of the night, which sounded like someone being murdered.
To top it all off the shower in the morning had about one minute of hot water.
I made it one night, had I arrived earlier I would not have stayed one. I left (even though it was non refundable) the next morning.

The staff was lovely
There was a dog that howled, cried and shook the door all night. It kept everyone awake. No one was able to sleep well. Earplugs were no match or help compared to the noise of this poor dog. When I complained about the noise after hours of no sleep I was told it was just a little dog go back to bed. That is not really a solution to the problem.

Noise in the morning

What I understood is it is run by a family, and you really can feel that. Everybody is very nice and welcoming. I had a couple of nice chats with Angela, she helped me several times with stuff like calling a taxi, calling food delivery, organizing laundry etc. I would overall recommend staying here, but be ware that it is some 20-25 minutes by taxi from El Poblado if that's where you want to spend most of your time at.
Unfortunately, the room has almost no sound isolation. It might get noisy in the morning when people start having breakfast and during the day. Also, you have to ring a bell to enter the building, and I felt terrible when I had to do that after midnight once. I felt like I am waking up half the hotel =/

The lady who was in charge during my stay, Angela, was friendly and personable. Also, Sarayu House is very near the center of Medellin if that’s where you want to be. I was late for breakfast so I didn’t expect to be offered food, but they gave me a cup of coffee and a plateful of sweet, delicious papaya. That was very nice of them.
This listing shows up in Booking under hotels, but it’s really just someone’s cluttered, rundown home, and you get a room in it. My room was across from reception and near the front door. The back of the house is under heavy construction, with workmen hauling bricks, pieces of wood and other building supplies through the house. In the evening and in the morning my room was filled with noise from the occupants of the house but during the middle of the night, it was peaceful and quiet. I didn’t have hot water for my shower and the entire bed was made in such a way that I couldn’t pull the sheet up past my thigh. I would have had to take the covers off and remake the bed so I slept with my jacket on instead. In the morning I found a spider bite on my leg so all in all, not my best night. The photos on Booking are legit, but they are very generously photographed. My room was small and windowless, and the door to my room was a vintage accordion type that didn’t lock properly. It definitely didn’t feel solid and safe. Finally, my room had a funky smell that was equal parts musty and cinnamon.

The Location is very central. The metro is near and there are also a lot of bus stations. You can reach the popular spots in Medellin without problems.
You can wash your clothes for little money and you also have a nice breakfast every morning. The familiy here is so attentive and they really help you with all your needs. They also offer tours to Guatape and the fact that they also grew up in that region makes it even more special.
I stayed for over 2 weeks and could really get an inside view of the "paisa" mentality.
I highly recommend this place !
I had an fantastic experience here and definitlely come back again.
Hasta luego familia :))
It could be a little bit noisy sometimes of the day, but hey welcome to Colombia that is very normal. At nightime it is almost quiet like in a vaccum.

Nice but small bathroom, tv
Doorbell ringing all night long, not the best nighbourhood, dripping from the ceiling, very disorganized, washing service complete disaster (took 3+ days, clothes spread all over the place, lost almost half). Cant recommend

This place is just wonderful! It’s located very close to the metro station, so it’s very easy to travel around Medellin! The family is lovely, they told us a lot about the region and gave us many tips what to do in this area. They also helped us getting to Cartagena, alway checking the most comfortable options for us. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. During the night it was very quite, so we had some good nights rest and were refreshed for the day.
Also the Breakfast was super delicious and everyday a little bit different, we especially enjoyed the Café con leche :)
They also offered a laundry service, which was super cheap, fast and our laundry smelled amazing afterwards.
The energy in this place is really good, so we can definitely recommend it and whenever possible we will come back again :)
They also offered us to stay in touch, if any questions appear or we want to get back to Medellin, they will help us.
I actually can’t write about anything we didn’t like, because we just liked everything. It was the best place to stay at since 3 months of traveling. Felt just like home away from home.
